Another pointless journey! This time from Manors to Manors! From the National Rail station to the Tyne and Wear Metro station! With a cancellation along the way..

As a child and teenager, I would often use platform 4 at Monument then stay on the train as it turned at St James, because it just felt more convenient than waiting at Monument for the same train

True. Plus it would cause more disruptions. Unless part of the ECML north of Newcastle was to be quadrupled which means the slower trains would use the slow tracks and the faster trains use the fast tracks.
@droge192
@droge192 Жыл бұрын
That would be awesome! I've often wondered why they don't use electric traction for the Newcastle - Morpeth - Chathill - Berwick services. The only issue I can see at present, is that those trains have used the same (bay) platforms in Newcastle for about 30 years; and they're not electrified. I'm sure that could be overcome though. The 323 would be perfect for that route.

Next time you are a bit more south, (South of London) you should do Edenbridge to Edenbridge Town. About a 5-10 min walk from eachother but a massive diversion by train. From Edenbridge to redhill, redhill to east croydon, east croydon to Edenbridge Town. Also both station have an hourly service so bear that in mind.

Would like to add two very similar West London ones: Hounslow Rail to Hounslow Central and Brentford to Boston Manor. In both cases the stations are linked by a very short bus ride, but if you were to want to do it by train only, it'd be taking the hounslow Loop via Whitton to Richmond, Richmond to Turnham Green, Turnham Green to Acton Town, and Acton Town to either Hounslow Central or Boston Manor. There are other very similar ones like Feltham to Hatton Cross but none along these two lines are as awkward nor as close. Another fun one though is doing Hammersmith to Hammersmith whilst avoiding changing in a Zone 1 only station (I don't think it's possible to do this without entering zone 1 at all as you can't get to the H&C without an OSI on it's Western end)

I saw the title of this suggested and did a double take, I love the absurdity of this, I can also remember as a very young child being taken to explore the derelict Manors station. It was huge and had numerous tunnels running under it, which we tried to get through. It says on wiki it closed in 1978 but it would have been mid 80s when we explored it.

Really enjoying these pointless journeys so far, if I can offer up a few suggestions for future videos in the series: Severn Beach to Pilning. About a 35 min walk between the two but the train journey is much longer and also made even more complicated by the fact that no trains towards Cardiff call at the station anymore. I think you have to go to Severn Tunnel Junction and then come back down the line again and even then the station only gets 2 trains a week (I know there's a local campaign group to get the station back on the map properly) Upper Warlingham to Whyteleafe: It's a 3 minute walk between the two stations but the train journey involves having to go all the way up to South/East Croydon and then coming back down the other line again Dorking (main) to Dorking Deepdene: Another short walk between two stations but on perpendicular lines. I think you have to go to Guildford and then get a train towards Leatherhead, make another change there and then come back down the line towards Horsham Clock House to Beckenham Road Tram Stop: a 3 minute journey by foot but the train/tram journey is much more complicated. There are occasional train journeys from New Beckehnam to Beckehnam Junction but these are very limited, the easier thing to do would be to get a train down to Elmer's End and then change to the Tramlink services, changing over at Arena for a Beckehnam Junction tram.

Some pointless journeys in Scotland ideas. I have 2 ideas the first is the between the two stations serving Glenrothes in Fife which are actually located in villages outside of Glenrothes. The two stations are Glenrothes with Thronton on the outer Fife Circle line (in the village of Thornton) to Markinch which is a station on the Edinburgh to Aberdeen main line. The second idea I have is between the two main stations in Coatbridge. Coatbridge Sunnyside (on the North Clyde Line) to Coatbridge Central (on the Motherwell to Cumbernauld Line).

Helensburgh Central to Helensburgh Upper, Tyndrum Lower to Upper Tyndrum, Paisley Gilmour Street to Paisley Canal, Falkirk Grahamston to Falkirk High, Coatbridge Sunnyside to Coatbridge Central, Blackpool North to Blackpool South, Heath High Level to Heath Low Level, Wakefield Westgate to Wakefield Kirkgate, Pontefract Monkhill to Pontefract Baghill via Pontefract Tanshelf... and doubtless, many more!

Tyne & Wear Metro is a "pretzel" (or figure of eight) configuration. So the Yellow line trains go through Monument twice; once on the north to south lines, then later on the east to west. St James is a terminus station (east to west only) and is 0.45 miles from Monument. Yes, basically it is confusing for visitors to the city!

Very few people get on the train at Platform 4 (to travel one stop to the St James terminus) but don't forget, about 20,000 people a day get off there, having travelled into the City from North Tyneside and the coast.

You should do Dorchester South to Dorchester West going via Southampton and Westbury, that's a long one 😂 or you could just go via Weymouth

Yes, watched a couple of your videos with that insane fake American accent you put on! A Morpeth lad trying to cover his accent. Huh! 😄

He could have got off there and switched platforms, instead of going another 10 miles up the track to Morpeth!

I’ve got a pointless journey idea! Windsor and Eton Central to Windsor and Eton Riverside. It’s like a 2 minute walk up a hill and taking the train between them is pointless.

Another suggestion, if you're in London ... West Hampstead (Jubilee line) -> West Hampstead (overground) -> West Hampstead (Thameslink) -> West Hampstead (Jubilee).
