If only he'd realized he was enough, was good enough, instead of being so hard on himself! It's beyond sad how his father abandoned him and his mother was too young to realize her child needed counseling.

@grumpycat2489 - Hmmm, I'd say all the serial womanising, ie breaking off perfectly good relationships with wonderful women (just as he himself accused himself of), would have been his biggest flaw. For someone as smart as he was, the constant "moving on" was an unexplainable, but huge problem. A problem to himself worst of all of course, but really, just think how many loving women's hearts he broke. Rinse and repeat...and I know it wasn't because he didn't know any better. It was his lifelong battle with his addict's betrayals of those closest to him that most likely was the cause--all painfully real even if you "know better"....😢💔💔💔💔

*his disease (addiction) broke. He was just the human conduit for the devastating heartbreaks (in his women & himself) his disease always caused. So ladies, choose your loved ones/friends 😅 extremely carefully: no matter how good, smart, kind, and well-intentioned your beloved might be, run a thousand miles in the opposite direction if your loved one happens to be an addict (of anything). Turn around and run. You can't help him, and he WILL betray you. Nothing to do with your personality, you would've just been the only or closest resource for him. So that's who they will betray WHEN they slip up/relapse. Because addicts always relapse: it's the nature of the thing. The only thing they control will be the first gulp of their first drink.

The women would have had to agreed to have had kids with him too. It's not just a one way street decision to have kids. He did want kids. But the women probably didn't want to being a baby into this world with a father with a heavy drug ans alcohol problem. Those women probably preferred a husband and father to their children who did not have a drug problem. I do think he would he would have been an excellent father and a husband. But, when he cleaned himself up and became sober, which I believe he did clean up towards his later years.

No, he has major attachment issues and self worth issues. He had a strained relationship with his mother so he is scared of being abandoned so he abandons them first

I had such a great fear of rejection, since I was raised by two extreme narcissists that never actually cared about me & were always secretly trying to hurt me, so that I acted careless & aloof, as a way of protecting myself. I had major trust issues & was always waiting for the guy to figure out all my flaws and decide that they didn't actually like me. Many of us treat others badly because we don't know any other way.

@@davidr4523 He was hardly the greatest person of all time, his addictions made people suffer a lot of pain. The people closest to him suffered the most. But that doesn't mean he wasn't a good person.
