Wow! Who would have know these places were right under our noses?
Everybody wants to move to North Carolina. Well, not everybody, but a lot of people do. You can’t blame people - word is out about all the cost of living and nice weather and limited political BS. Folks are coming here from all over the midwest, northeast and as far away as India. And they seem to love it here.
But as you know, the cost of living is getting higher everywhere. And people’s preferences have changed - we don’t necessarily want to live in big cities like Raleigh or Charlotte. Maybe we want affordable, smaller towns with space, huh people?
So that’s what we’re going to do in this video. I’ve used data, word of mouth and my own personal knowledge of North Carolina to put together a list of ten places here that you can move to which a lot of people probably don’t know about. But one promise - you have to Shhh! and not tell everyone about these places. Cause they won’t be cheap awesome amazing small places if word gets out, right?

Loved North Carolina when I was in the Navy. I was never stationed there, but in places like South Carolina and Virginia. Who knows, I may have to retire out there if we can't sort out our water situation out west. I have been to Morehead city a couple of times to pick up Marines. haha, that sounds wrong the way I worded it. My ship was picking up the marines, not me. I would probably live in Western North Carolina if I lived there though.

My family still lives there, moved because winters were too rough for me. My brother is a realtor in Cayuga County. There are good jobs out there. My son does well at Lockheed Martin in Syracuse. which is not far from his home. If you can take the winters, it is wonderful.

Nick, Love following your videos! I was wondering if you have ever done anything on Murphy, North Carolina? My wife and I have property there and are planning to retire there in the spring of 2023. We have plans to import a Log Home Kit from a New Hampshire Company, Coventry Log Homes, and we are still waiting on a few modifications that we have requested but are hoping to be ready to go with a walkout basement foundation. I researched this town for about a year and a half before even visiting, but from the moment we arrived, it just felt like the right place! If you have any info, I would love for you to point it out for us!

Great video! I do have to say I love WNC because of its mountains, trails, springs and nature. I currently live in Leicester which is like a "suburb" of Asheville and really like it. You get the nature and tranquility oppose to Asheville which has grown tremendously. Actually, it's to much. Traffic has become a problem plus the homeless community is another. Don't get me wrong, I have sympathy toward them but the trash, drugs and disorder they cause has escalated big time in the last couple of years, sad. But if you what peaceful living try one of Asheville's suburb.

As i am reaching retirement I would move back to Hendersonville in a heartbeat. Beautiful down town, very friendly safe area. I was glad you ranked it #1 as I sure would. I have visited most of the towns you mentioned in this video Boone is a nice place. Burnsville much smaller but a neat town. Fayetteville of course its a military town, not recommended. I would second considering Hendersonville. My youngest brother moved from Rochester, NY to Clemmons, just south of Winston-Salem. when their youngest attended University of NC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem for stage lighting and sound studies. My nephew graduated and got a great job, with excellent career potential in Florida. My brother is still in Clemmons and really likes it there.

The more this is advertised the more that landscape will change. More people = more woods and free land bulldozed to accommodate a population spur. Do you really want that? I'd suggest keep these areas a secret to avoid an unnecessary population boom that will turn these areas into high cost ones.

This is precisely why I like having an asset manager look over my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a manager for more than two years, and I've made over 85% of my initial amount/

I've got 69 years of living in NC. All you picked were great except Boone. I've seen it become a great place to be in (up to about 2010) to a huge college town full of year round tourist. Not a place you would want to settle down for the quite little town mountain life. Bumper to bumper most anytime, any season. Other towns I would add to your list would be Wilksboro, Lexington (you got to love their BBQ) and Salisbury, home of Cheerwine. Also Kannapolis is really cleaning up it's act downtown.

I’ve lived in the Wake Forest area most of my life and it is very overpopulated now. Definitely not the small town it was. The traffic is getting pretty crazy as well. There are some amazing spots downtown like Shorty’s though that are worth it to visit! Also I don’t believe it’s all that affordable for housing anymore. Constantly throwing up new developments making Wake Forest become Wake De-Forest 😭

I lived down there in Wake Forest for a little over a year and a half in the mid/late 2000s. I just went through it recently and my God has it exploded. It was mildly busy but quiet before, now it seems like it's getting really crowded.

Southern Pines and Pinehurst are very nice towns. If you're a local or live near by (i.e Robeson County), you know they're similar to Fayetteville though. I'd still choose Moore County over Cumberland County ANY day of the week. Better doctors, love the downtown area, and some of the best small shops and restaurants and as you said, a lot of retirees. But at least you can walk your dog in peace.

I live 10 mins from morganton in the small town of hildebran. it's a nice area, but not much to do around here. it does have nice beautiful spots, but has its fair share of sketchy areas as well.

I love your commentaries, and the fact you show the unknown small towns. I could never live in a big city. The bums, traffic, cost of living and especially the crime automatically scares me off. Make a video on small towns near MOUNTAINS. That's what we're looking for after we move out of overrated Florida.
