It takes a whole lot of very cool, very hard to come by pieces to make a dream car like Nick's Project Kowalski 1970 Challenger. But Nick has been collecting parts for decades now, and today he is going to dig them all out.

There is no such thing as a "basket case" in your hands. Its just not perfected yet. The "Vanishing Point" car is gonna be special. That collection of parts had me remembering the early days. We had shipping containers full of parts as well. If we didn't have it, it was my job to find it. I knew every junkyard in 3 states. And yes, I remember the gas cap company. The 351c Mustang is beautiful. Your putting up the Melling signs was a treat. If Nick uses the company you know it's good. It's good that the Dyno company sent there best. I'm watching it intently. The hemi orange Charger really got to me, with a very few differenced that was my car. The way of the muscle car will never die.

Love how you can hear the excitement in Nick's voice as he goes through the hoard for parts he has stashed..knowing one day he was going to find that U-code. And him climbing all over in different locations reminds me so much of me, my dearly departed said I was a hoarder, but was always amazed how I could remember which place which part was! We catalog in our heads where our most precious parts are ;) Did know about the difference in 'Cuda and Challenger door handles..only because a accident left me replacing one on a '71'Cuda door so many yrs. ago. Up until then I thought they were the same too! Can't wait to see the R/T get back, and am only bummed that I can't help put it together ;)

The education on the e body door handles was well worth the price of admission. Lol. I’ve been a Mopar fan since high school. And I especially love the 70 challenger R/T. I love the chargers also. I actually owned a 69 charger R/T SE. 440 automatic with a factory sun roof. At the time I didn’t know how rare the car was. Only 29 built with factory sun roofs. I paid 150 for it and had to drive it in reverse through the neighbor hood I lived in to get it home. Every time I watch your posts I am educated on mopars. You are living my dream young man. Keep up the good work!

That 440 Charger was sweet Nick. Can't wait to see what YOU do with your Challenger. You may honestly be one of the only guys that knows as much about Mopars as my grandfather did. He raced Hemis and a 6 bbl Road Runner for 35 years out of Chicago and anyone with a mopar in the area came to him when they needed work. Mainly the 6 pack setups, Hemi's and torquflites. I love watching you work your magic. Built my first 440 from pan to carb at 15 thanks to watching and listening to my grandfather for yrs. Im 53 now and still building and racing only Mopars. Thank you for bringing the mopar magic to thousands of people. Your the best.

They called my Uncle the Mopar Killer He would chew um up and spit um out. Nothing could touch his 66 Chevelle SS big block. He raced them all and never lost from the hemis to 440s it never mattered. He was the street racer mechanic that knew how to get all that power to the wheels and worked his magic for guys that were serious and were not afraid to invest the money. His garage was exclusively nothing but Chevy chevelles, corvettes and GTOs

He only raced 1/4 mile and always won, East Coast still has the same car as well as several others. Personaly I like some of the Mopars, however, back in the 60s they didn't have the vast array of parts available to chevy owners, as a result couldn't harness the power to the wheels to gain traction.

Very glad to see the Dino the Dyno update. I loved seeing project K going to paint/body. I had a flashback of going through my parts piles of "junk". I know where it was put 35 years ago and you can not find it anywhere but 'here' , two inches into the drawer... There it is! Buick, Olds, Chevy, and Cadillac. Every nut, bolt, washer, bracket, emission item (and emission defeat), and what year it fits. If you love it, you know where it is. If I were a betting man, project K will be stronger than stock on the dyno and sound like it should with better street quality. I tip my hat to Mellins for fixing a bane on the oil pump situation, maybe they will look at the Olds, Buick, Chevy SB1 and BBC Mark4 pumps, as well. I initially bought a die grinder to clean casting flaws. I spent as much time working out oil flow problems with my tools. I still have 3 350 Buicks to build, a 330 Olds, one 500 Caddy, 5 small Chevy's and a 402 and 454 big Chevy. Take care from Oklahoma Mike and Vee

That '72 Rallye Charger at the end was a great lookin car. Love that final door treatment then did for what had been the R/T, now Rallye by '72. Absolutely can not wait for updates on the Kowalski Challenger build. I'd love to be building the same. Not sure if I'll get to one, but I'd sure like to add that to my bucket list of the few final cars I want to experience before my time is up. Hope you guys might even be able to show some updates from the body shop. Just to show what flaws she really has once stripped to bare metal, and the way in which they are being corrected on your car. Love that you found a true U code and a D21 car. Whenever I do see a U code '70 Challenger, they never seem to be 4spd cars but are always autos. If I ever build one, I can't imagine getting that lucky to find a builder like you did. Most guys have to start with 383 cars, or even non R/T's as well. I'd also be curious in addition to the factory disc brakes up front, upfit, what else you might be planning in the build. For me, if more driver fun, than strip/1320 brawler I'd probably stick with 3.54 Sure Grip out back, maybe 4.10's. Stock rebuild on the Hemi A833. Though I think Passon has some neat upgrade parts for A833's to be aware of anyways. I'd run ported stock 440 Magnum exhaust manifolds, with a true 2.500 mandrel bent exhaust out to correct tips, ofcourse. I'd possibly try to free up some revs with lighter rods and pistons, and a really cleaned up crank. Or even just non Six Pack rods, for the lighter LY's and shotpeen grind and polish the beams. The cam would be a tough choice for me, but I'd probably run a correct OE Magnum or Six Pack spec cam, but perhaps with 1.6 ratio rockers and ported iron heads. Might choose 915's for the better flowing closed chambers. Might also consider Stealths painted to look stock. Would also be fun to go dead nuts stock on the cars engine build up front, and then perhaps make a few sneaky changes just to see how much a stock sounding engine at idle could be improved upon. I've always had a tendency to think a little bit like the F.A.S.T. Racing guys do I guess, though I'd never push the cam specs and compression up like those guys do. Always loved the looks stock, but somehow runs better, or looks really close to stock, but runs way way better type thinking when putting a combo together. Oh, and I'd put the aftermarket 15x8" wide Rallye wheels front and rear. Have seen another Kowalski build online with them and a few other Challengers and really like that tiny bit bigger than stock, but still under the fenders look. Just that one inch wider really allows for a much meatier tire look front and rear. Can not wait though. Love to also see that your able to make use of parts you stockpiled years ago, that is just awesome. Really paying off to have kept those. Best of luck, eagerly watching closely. Laurence down in Arizona USA

SixSpeedSS. You and I have a lot in common on this build. Yes, I do want it to look stock from outside and kick ass. I plan to push this car to it's limit. I believe today, that the U code 4 speed 70 Challenger RT is more rare then the V code cars. In the past years, I came by many six pack Challengers, 4 speed and autos. It took some time for me to find the correct car for the Kowalski build.

Hi from Argentina!!! Your work is awesome, nice restorations. I'm a big muscle cars fan and I really enjoy your passion for these "animals". I would really like to have one of those some day before I die!!!! Here in my country things are not going well. Keep on rolling!!!!

Years back I did a full reso of a 70 Challenger R/T 440 4V super track pack 4-speed, 1 of 64 made. It was a nice low millage (56,000) almost rust free car in B5 blue with a black interior, console delete and no VT and was kept in the same garage for 35 years. I spent almost a year finding everything I needed. I found several NOS parts including a new unopened grill, side lights, center caps, taillights and had to restore all the rest. It's very time consuming if you do everything 100% correctly, I even had the car painted with acrylic enamel. Best of luck to you, it can be a real pain in the ass.

BulletSpoung. Yes it is time consuming to do it 100% correct, and a pain in the ass for sure.

Damn, I can't wait to see that new dyno in play. Oh, but it'll get a workout, for sure! There must be 1700 engines ready to test by now.

Hey Nick, Have you ever heard of a buddy of mine’s garage here in Kahnawake? It’s called “GranSport Auto”. They too do full restoration work, but do mostly Buick/Oldsmobile work. They restored and raced a ‘70 Buick Skylark GS Stage 1 at Napierville for many years. Was that beautiful bright yellow with the black striping with red edging. I’m sure if you needed rare/hard to find parts they could set you straight.

Nick you really need to get your hands on an old slant 6. Would be awesome to see it run with some proper free flowing headers and maybe ditch the 2 barrel for a good 4.

I seem to remember that the concave handles were for 70/71 Challengers and then the factory switched to the Cuda style for both Cuda/Challenger after that. Cost savings probably and most people don't know even today.

I'll bet Nick was a terror with Legos when he was a kid!! He's still doing it but with 1970 Challenger parts!! I'm so old they didn't have Legos until I had my own kids. Come to think of it, I was there when they invented dirt......

By the way, great to see the Dyno is finally coming along and that they sent up someone who developed the stuff. They should send out one of their people automatically. I was stunned at how almost overly complex the Dyno system seemed, but I guess that shows what I know. Like building a NASA Satellite or somethin lol.

On your project challenger I hope you will be throwing on some WilWood brakes, that 440 should be set up to run long and fast. You owe it to your family to put a roll bar in while you have it apart. Also you should put the RIGHT driver seat with safety belts and release. Lots of powder coated goodies. And some sticky Thomson tires. Turn it into a pro tour. It’s still the same car, only Nicks Garage Stile.
