Today, we're going to take a look at a leather bag which has all the style of a full leather bag, but with less of the downsides: The Nutsac Jones 15.

I have one of their Mag-Satch 11s in canvas and love that bag. These leather ones look great as well, but I don't think I'm at a place where I'd spend 500+ on a bag. That's a tough pill to swallow, but hey, I'm sure it'll make some folks very happy.

I bought a NutSac disc golf bag maybe 15 years ago in canvas. Still use it. Back then it was very reasonably priced.

It looks cool, and I do appreciate the Indiana Jones aesthetic...But it's just not practical for me, as I live in the southwest and require a dedicated water bottle pouch on the exterior to keep the water away from any tech or paper I'm also carrying. Also...I get that leather is expensive, but damn the price...

The Jones 15 is my new EDC…bought after watching this review. Replaces my Satchel 15…for now 😉

Great, objective review. I found particularly useful your comments re lack of magnets and the fact that a 16” laptop (which I have) would only just fit in. You comments also on the design of the clips holding the strap to the bag were also useful (I don’t carry a bike, luckily!) and I’ve had similar issues with the clips my Muy Grande (which my 16” laptop fits in very well) - which have caught the hole in the zipper pull (HOW that happens I don’t know). Re the edging peeling off, flag this to Nutsac. They stand by their product and will send a new one, no questions asked, to you. I had issues with the stitching on the grab handle of my Muy Grande pulling off - they replaced it - TWICE - and changed to stronger thread to stitch the handle to the bag. Try ‘stress-testing’ the grab handle on your bag to see if it holds. You’re also spot-on about the ‘formal vs casual’ aspect. I enjoy the lack of too many pockets/pen slots as it allows me to personalise my bag more. Sometimes the more ‘organisation’ you have in a bag, the less organised your are if it’s not ‘your way’ of doing things. The water bottle holder and closure tab have been commented on by other reviewers also. We tend to carry water with us now, but I think that to add a bottle holder would detract from the simplicity of the bag (and provide more ‘snag surface’). Thanks again for the great review.

I would have loved magnets in the flap but I asked them if they would make it and they said no because the leather is too thick. So I pulled the trigger and won't look back. It really is amazing

So glad you addressed that cheap edge coating! Overall good bag. Cheap Edge Detailing.

Huh. Interesting. I was interested until I discovered the price. Funny, somehow I can convince myself I need a $550 Sebenza all day, but a bag that would arguably get way more practical use? NEVER!!! In all seriousness, that's a pretty steep price for a bag. My level of knowledge in the leather world is nowhere near my knowledge in the knife world, but the price has me kind of has me raising an eyebrow. I mean hey, for all I know this is the CRK of the leather bag world, but I'm not really getting those vibes. Really enjoy your content, as always, Nick. It's amazing how good of a job you do even reviewing non-knife items. You've really developed a brain that can focus on "usability" extending beyond pocketknives.

I will say this bag is vegetable tanned leather. I think you would be very interested in how that process works and there's videos on KZfaq on why vegetable tan is better than mineral tan leather. I know how it's tanned isn't everything but it is one very important thing to know about a leather quality

How does the size of the Jones 15 compare with the Muy Grande? Is it as big?

Can’t beat the leather/canvas TacSac 15. Way more customizable and don’t necessarily have to worry about the leather care over time. And more than half the price cheaper.

I have a Nutsac canvas bag and I use it a lot, but this one, although beautiful, is pricey. If I was going to spend that much, I would go all the way and get a Frank Clegg or Colonel Littleton

Curious how this bag looks over time as it scratches so easily
@westicles_testicles2 жыл бұрын
Oil tanned leather is like that naturally, less maintenance for the leather and just rubbing it gets rid of scratches

Inside looks like a wannebe Carhartt tool bag though. Might be functional but i don't get why they cant design something remotely nice looking for the inside in that price range.
@jaredweiman2987 Жыл бұрын
$540 is chump change compared to other leather makers out there. This is a great entry level bag and is competitively price comparatively speaking. Filson workshop is double the price, frank clegg is probably triple this. Carl Murowski has the authoritative review on this imo.

Price is entirely unreasonable. Much nicer bags to be had at much lower prices.

My Allen Edmonds leather duffle ($750) has the exact same type of strap clip AND the exact same issue from time-to-time. The AE duffle is so good otherwise that that I've come to live with the clip issue. For reference, the AE bag actually has 4 of those clips (ends of the strap and the corners of the zipper to fasten to the bottom of the bag).

I must say, I would never take a company seriously that called themselves nutsac. I like silly, and even vulgar silly on occasion, but not on something like this. I wouldn’t be a customer strictly based on branding.
