When Larry’s shots fall dead center in the hoop and the net barely moves as the ball falls through… that is a thing of beauty.

I’m 45, back when I was 13, my uncle took me to a Celtic’s game. My family is NY. I don’t need to say any more! Yanks, Giants, rangers and St John’s. At 13, I watched that man put on a jumper clinic! Right and left handed! He scored 46 and didn’t play the 4th quarter!

I saw this play LIVE, in 1987. Mychal Thomson FOULED Bird as well, hitting his shooting hand/arm...and Bird STILL hit the shot! Look at the way Worthy covered Bird, holding him aggressively, practically terrified Larry will hit the shot...and he did. Lebron James, nor anyone in today's game has done anything remotely like this. And Larry Bird TOLD them the play. Let that sink in, folks.

LeBrainless sucks and wouldn't last a season playing in the 80's thru the Bad Boys Era in the 90's. MJ, The Goat got mauled back then and is still the Greatest...it was like 5 man football during the playoffs back then. Remember McHale The Biggest "Softie" in the League Clotheslining Rambis??? The was Hilarious and frightening at the same time. The Current NBA Pansies in Pigtails and Tights wouldn't last a season back then let alone become HOF'ers and play more than ten years talking all those beatings.

To fully appreciate how crazy this story is you need to understand how great a player James Worthy was. First pick of the first round of the NBA draft as a college junior by the reigning Champs, NBA Hall of Fame, and NBA Finals MVP, Worthy was a beast. He tells this story the best, "Fuuu q!"

You’re right. Big Game James was often considered the third best star on that team, but when they other two are arguably the best to play their respective positions, you realize why he gets forgotten at times. To me, there was no better player out on the fastbreak in the history of basketball. He had speed and intelligence and timing. He was awesome.

As a Celts fan, I hated James Worthy because he was that good. He was really The Laker who put their team over the top of the Celtic.Worthy was dripping with talent who you hated to see his hands on the ball. He’s never given enough credit for those Laker championships after 1986 with Magic and Kareem on the team. James Worthy was awesome.

Larry was only loud enough usually for the person he was talking to to hear. He didn't yell or pound his chest because he didn't have to. His trash talk was psychological warfare and he viewed it as part of the game. Winning was everything.

What people don't talk enough about is how quick Bird was. No, he couldn't out-sprint you, but he was much quicker than most players in the few steps that mattered. Also, Larry was big, at least 6'9" and probably an inch taller than that. Big.

Acronym "SHIT" = "S"hip "H"igh "I"n "T"ransport. This acronym came out of old England back when "goods" were transported by sailing ships..and "MANURE" was a commodity transported by sailing ship...they hung the bags of manure from the ceilings and walls to keep the manure dry. .
