I think i would have preferred this challenge to start at a 12 minute pace, and just go all day. It would have been a lot more work, but it would have really pushed people much harder. This challenge as done is just another who is the fittest person who showed up on this day. For most people it isnt an endurance challenge once you start forcing the pace to increase. If you set it to a very easy pace, then it becomes a bit about fitness, but mostly about who wants the money the most. who is ready to run for 5 hours straigjt on a whim. It would be interesting as youd probably have some people unexpectedly complete a marathon that day.

I’m a sprinter not a long distance runner at all, but I’m currently on a rigorous running program for my physical therapy and I’m trying to run the 1200 m but it’s really hard. I figured out that it’s harder to set my pace and speed when I’m running shorter distances so my therapist has me running 30 minutes with taking two minute walking breaks in between and I’m doing better. Hopefully I can run 2 miles before the summer’s over.

"Rigged" means "planned in advance". Any proof of that? It's quite a claim.
@ielle.
@ielle. 11 ай бұрын
@@bigguy7353 True not rigged, but never truly competitive. Connor has a 5k PR of 13:37 (4:23/mile) which is roughly equivalent to a sub-28 minute 10k (4:33/mile). I didn't find a 10k PR so I don't know if he's ever done one competitively, but that's :27/mile of wiggle room even if he's a relatively worse 10k runner than 5k. 5:00/mile pace is at most the equivalent of a tempo run for him. A 5:00/mile 5k is about 15:30, well above average even if not quite sub-elite yet, and it's probably not far off from the level of the next fastest runner in this competition. At 6:00/mile, this is STILL likely quite a bit slower than what someone of Connor's profile would be capable of running a marathon at. 6:00/mile means a 2:37:19 marathon, and to show how much wiggle room he has to be capable of it, his 5k PR is roughly equivalent to a marathon time of 2:10:35 (4:59/mile). If he has as much natural talent at the marathon as he has at the 5k, with the right training he could realistically hold a 5:00/mile for about a marathon. Even if he's naturally much more gifted at shorter races like the 5k and is a comparatively much worse marathoner, the gap in his abilities at these distances is probably less than one minute per mile. It wasn't rigged, but it was so uncompetitive that the outcome was as good as pre-determined. This was a jog for Connor.

@bigguy7353

To "see" the elevation difference? You can just look that up, and if you were there you wouldn't see the difference because everything around you would be at roughly the same elevation. You mean hold the competition in a high elevation area to see how less oxygen effects runners. It doesn't make anyone "better" to run at high elevations. You put your pulmonary system through extra stress which isn't good for you, and having more red blood cells also causes health problems.

@@clockedfreThat isn't a measure of "fitness". That's abusing your body for an impractical skill you'd never use in real situations. If you want "fitness" get a used exercise bike and get on it. Add some resistance training and you'll be on the road to "fitness" in no time.

@@mrsensei8878Depends on their base level of fitness. That advice could be disastrous for someone who shouldn't be "running" until they gain some strength.
