Nice. Although it's very cold in North China but most places are very dry during winter except for the Northeast provinces of Helongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning, northern inner Mongolia. The northern part of xinjiang also receives heavy snowfall. Due to its dry conditions in north china there's little snow. Snowfall is more abundant in south China on high elevation than north china. This is due to moisture that flows in from the south. That's why there're nice ski resorts in south China with abundant natural snowfall such as in Xiling, Shennojia, etc

If you prefer to ski on natural powder snow in China, you'd have to go to Altay region in northern Xinjiang and around the Hinggan mountains area in Heilongjiang.
@abbotsful

thanks jimi I didn't think there was any proper snow in China, how does it compare to japan ?
@tweedy4sg
@tweedy4sg 2 жыл бұрын
@@abbotsful no proper snow ? i'm sorry you think that. Then I'm also sure you didn't know China's south-western border abuts the Himalayas that includes Mt Everest. Of course these places are not recommended for skiing because accessibility is not easy.
@abbotsful
@abbotsful 2 жыл бұрын
@@tweedy4sg Thanks I think maybe I know that border more for military conflict than for skiing. As you say accessibility is not easy, there are tours throughout the region but strictly for the very advanced. Definitely no gondolas, the Karakoram range actually gives its name to the high-end splitboard binding. And, in my opinion the snow is not great, it's icy and treacherous, plus you're at least 7000+ altitude, it's an expedition. Sorry I didn't specify, but alluded to in mentioning Japan, powder snow is what I consider to be proper. The snow park in nw Xinjiang looks dope, 3,000+k from beijing it's a mission too. I know there are hundreds of resorts in China but none have so far made it onto sites like powderhounds etc.

From UK I did try to ski in China once but went to Niseko Japan instead because it wasn't cost effective for me then. For an overseas skier to come the resorts need to be adequately developed, snow sure and good transportation to get in and out. That was about 10 years ago. Based on my knowledge after skiing 14 countries and visited 140+ skiing resorts I would say Chinese skiing industry is possibly in its "infant stage". This isn't a criticism but just a passing comment. I believe until China has the infrastructure, facilities, accommodations, terrain and catering suitable to attract international skiers/boarders it will remain as for local consumption type industry. The international big boys are France with say 3 Valley having 600+ piste fully linked by 200+ chairlift. Mighty Dolomites Superski is comprised by 12 resorts with 1,200km. Even Dolomites isn't fully link but its Sella Ronda is. Having 425km piste and 194 chairlifts it is known to the skiing world for its largest skiing loop in the world taking a whole day to pass through for the average skiers, clockwise or anticlockwise. There are super size domain like Porte de Soleil (650km), Ski Amade (760km), Ski Welt (288km), Paradise Ski (435km) and Espace Killy (300km), Milky Way(400km) where for a single ski pass one can enjoy a huge amount of skiing opportunities over a wide area. Switzerland for example has St Moritz hosting winter Olympic twice first one in 1928. Thus premium resorts like Swiss Zermatt,, French Courcheval, Italian Contina D'Ampezzo, Austrian St Anton/Lech and America Aspen are skiing resorts with luxury. Zermatt for example has runs where skiers/boarders can arrive the top of the chairlift by sitting face to face chatting as a large group riding on an air-condition train! One can sit on a chairlift blown miserably by snow, rain, cold and wind or inside a chairlift fitted with a weather bubble and with heated seats. For toilet facilities I had peed on urinals on side side overlooking by a female queue for their cubicle inside the same container in France and found the meeting area for toilet more luxurious as a 4-star hotel lobby with circular sitting sofa in Austria. Skiing industry can also be different in each country. France is likely a close model for China as its mega-size resorts are catered for seasonal once-a-year sudden influx in gigantic number. Thus many accommodations are arranged in large compartment blocks virtually empty for the rest of the year. Austria and Switzerland skiing resorts are much smaller and integrated with the local communities because their skiing is mostly for recreation during each weekend. In winter they go skiing and in summer for hiking using the same facility. Italy lies somewhere in between but retain the Alpine community charm. The America resorts are not that well organised. Up market resorts, favoured by movie stars and celebrities, could be built as a feature to attract buyers of the expensive real estate there. Resorts like Vail and Beaver Creek can have its own local radio broadcasting property details to visitors and some skiing runs are on private land virtual in the back gardens of the local properties. China will have a big skiing/boarding population in the near future so there will be a big demand for accommodations, hotels and restaurants. Location of suitable resorts is going to be a challenge. Although China has cold places in the North East it lacks altitude so the number of resorts there will be unlikely large or major. Where it has altitude, like in Tibet and Xinjiang the access can be time consuming but there is a considerable scope for development in the western provinces once the local population starts to do winter sport. The trick is to offer attractive packages for visitors from at least other provinces if not from overseas. There are literally thousands of mountains in China with snow nearly all year round but they are in the wrong places far away from civilisation. However with airports, HSR and fast local transport there is an exciting skiing industry to be develop in China.

Just putting this out there, hopefully I'm wrong, but... Sun Tzu Quote: “The opportunity to secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.” Therefore; I believe the CCP may take the worlds athletes hostage at the winter games, (its already a fully fenced secure compound) in exchange of a peaceful hand over of Taiwan or at least allows CCP to attack Taiwan without outside support for Taiwan.
