League of Legends has been constantly evolving during the past 10 years.
During this time the audience has reached peaks that no one could've predicted. Filling out stadiums to watch esports yearly.
However despite all the growth in the professional scene, one thing has always stuck out to some viewers. And that is the lack of female representation. Though some orgs have attempted to step into the girl gamer world, none have actually got into official Riot Games tournaments. Until Vaevictis eSports. The first all female team to ever be represented in LoL esports and have a chance to qualify for the League of Legends world championship. But things didn't go so well.

Slight amendment to your video in that there actually has been a pro female player that played in NA challenger and I believe very briefly in the NA LCS for team Renegades called Remillia back in 2015/2016. Pretty nice video otherwise

The point is anything is possible as long as your image looks great. If you were a rich ugly person people would question how you got to be so rich. If you were a rich attractive person people dont question them at all because they are "worthy".

Everyone who played Vaevictis eSports at that time had a very low rating on EUW, they were no higher than a Diamond 4. The thing is that league has mostly male players and only a very small amount of those become pro players. So the chance of having a female pro player is also much smaller. So if there are some really good female players out there, they won't be enough to make an all female team. The team at the end really showed a much more realistic approach, having one in the team instead of a whole team.

That's also the issue with hiring based on sex or race quotas where that sex/race make up a much smaller portion of applicants compared to their percentage of the population. Statistically you will have to lower standards in order to actually get enough people to fill the quotas, meanwhile you leave qualified individuals by the wayside.

@@agapon2023 Let me put it this way, if a job is male dominated and women make up say 4% of the applicants to that role. If the goal is to make a 50/50 male to female ratio you are forced to lower standards for the female applicants since the number of women applying to that position are far less. This is the issue with race/sex based hiring quotas, in most cases the percentage of applicants for a position do not line up with what percentage that race/sex makes up in the population. This in turn forces standards for certain groups to be lower and standards for others to be higher. If you want a real world example of this take a look at affirmative action, where the required SAT and ACT scores for Asians where a lot higher and some other races where accepted with far lower scores.

At that time I was playing on a ru/cis server and often met them in the flex queue. They played at the level of upper platinum - medium diamond (of ru server, of course, which in itself is one of the weakest). Their lcl opponents were euw challengers with years of experience in the pro scene.

@@Cancoillotteman I won game in 11 minutes, but it's back then same as these tournaments, nowdays you have plates on towers which are hard to push in early - artifically it extends the gaming time, it might be possible with a certain combo where you boost dmg/push as much as possible but I doubt

The problem with all girls teams is that they are generally selected due to being girls, while the other teams are selected due to being good. It is a plenty possible for girls to be just as good, but an all girls team is the wrong way to prove it, whereas one making it onto a team normally would actually prove it

@John M. yeah but that still doesn't change that exceptions do exist, if a woman truly wants to be champion, if she trains and becomes better then she absolutely can win, especially in games as for the most part sports are divided due to men being naturally stronger on everage, however, games are more about reflexes and awarenes, and those two things can be something they can train to be on even ground with men, the fact exceptions exist proves that to be true It may be hard, but with hard work it can be achieved. So basically, all of that doesn't matter, especially in games since, again, it isn't a competition of strenght, it's more mental than enething else and that already excludes a good portion of the natural advantages men have, games in this regard are like guns, the great equalizer, it doesn't matter who you are, if you put in the work, you'll get there.

@John M. really, you're asking me to show you something that you can see yourself by literally just doing a quick google search, and of course the female representation in games is low compared to males, you said it yourself, they don't care as much, yet the ones that do are out here earning hundreds of thousands of dollars by working with esports, and still on the subject of caring, really now, scrabble, that's the best you could pull, girls already are less likely to care about good games and you expect them to care about freaking scrabble, hell, what *normal person* cares about scrabble, let alone professional scrabble, how do you expect that to be a good way to prove your argument, if most people don't even know it's a thing. But sure, i'll bite, Claudia Amaral was the 2004 spanish world scrabble champion amd three times runner up, not just "fenale league" champion, world champion, now i know you'll go "uh.. that doesn't count because men better.." but face it, she is proof that even in a male dominated enviorment, women can rise to the top, which just proves my point that anyone that puts in the effort necessary to win can win, yes biological differences exist, but natural power can only take you so far. Besides, women in esports aren't as prevalent as men, so of course there aren't that many female champions, but that, as Ms. Amaral proved, isn't impossible. Try as you might, she still won, you can't change that and this is where your argument falls appart, so much for being well read eh.

1:11 I'd like to debate this. I don't think it's simply because of that. I myself personally am friends with an ex-Pro that left shortly after going pro in my country because of the insane misogyny she experienced while playing for her team. She decided she didn't want to continue in an environment like that so 1 year later she retired. She still gets offers but she's moving on to a different career choice. If I'm not mistaken there was another European player that left her team due to the same reason A lot of female players that have pro potential often don't go for it because of their personal experiences. Maybe one day as communities within the professional scene gets healthier, we'll get the opportunity to see a female Faker.

It could be no self confidence. Female gamers are normally stereotyped to be pretty, permed hair and tons of make up on..but the good gamers are sloppy and untidy looking. it's also that young women are more attractive than young males. they don't generally get ugly until after baby making age. And that is tens of thousands of years of genetic selection and socialization. Women who reproduce tend to be attractive. Most men historically didn't reproduce. You missed the point of the team. They tried to sell their players, they didn't manage. So as a last resort, they went full on advertisement mode. Found some girls who at least played the game, and then made revenue just by exposure. It was a success, went a lot better than the previous roster. The goal for a team is to make money.

The issue with female teams/women playing professionally in esports is that they are separated early on in the semi-pro scene and never play against the guys who get all the funding, sponsors, training, etc. It's not that they don't have the ability, they just can't compete because they don't get the same training or experience. It's the same thing with IRL sports. It's really unfortunate.

Though I can't post links to compare men and women directly, I encourage you to search up people like Lia Thomas (pennsylvania), Anne Andres (canada - Canadian Powerlifting union), Rachel McKinnon (Track Cycling World Championship in Manchester). They are all transgender men, or rather "wamen" who were allowed to enter the female sport field, previously mediocre when compared against other men, suddenly started breaking world records left and right. I rest my case. There, literally, is no sugarcoating it, men are better at sport activities than women, even in something as undemanding as a videogame which only requires you to memorize and follow a certain gold economy on specific champions(5+ league experience before I quit, so I know what I'm talking about).

If I'm remembering my figures since I last looked, about 1% of all players are top tier in LoL. How many of that 1% are women? How many of them are willing to give up their whole lives to become LCL players? What if there aren't even 5 women players at that same level who are willing to do that? Well since you decided to hire women, you have to accept less skilled women to fill the same role and voila, same outcome. Of course, they accepted less skilled and PRETTY women on purpose, but the same disaster would happen if you negate a large % of the pool of hires you are willing to hire "for identity."

If this had been a conventional male team, losing even the whole first season would cause them to be sent home with a don't call us we'll call you. Literally they will ban players for a game half as bad. All they were doing was utterly demoralizing every single female team out there. Because instead of selecting girls that were already ranked in the female teams, they built a team based on who knows what. This is not real world. The genetic and physiology advantages that men have don't apply. Most esports are played by teenagers through to mid twenties. The kids that stomped them so badly in many cases had not even seen puberty yet. So even the excuse of brain chemistry being different is actually very low. The difference is they chose a team who were going to be attractive.

That team that beat them 54 to two actually got penalized for bad sportsmanship for dragging it out. Against a male team they would simply call it proving the point that these boys should have gone home.

@jeppemichael The 'diversity' is trying to introduce females to pro gaming by making absolutely no effort to let female gamers get the same level of practice in as the males before sending them off to get humiliated in front of 100k+ viewers. Don't expect a mixed Female / Male pro team to happen at any point though within LoL though lmao.

I mean... The fact that there was NO rules against women participating and not even a single female player is on the roster for world leagues should have been a hint that the talent simply wasn't there. I don't know if there is some physiological difference between female and male players that means women cannot achieve the skills/talent needed or if it is simply about the amount of players and how seriously they take it. If you have to select 5 world champions out of a pool of 100,000 players, then you are likely to find better players than if you chose amongst 50.
