Growing up as a kid in the mid to late 90s … Nicholas Cage was a force to reckon with . So many memories : The Rock , Con Air , Face/Off, Gone in 60 Seconds … it was an entire era Then he dipped a little but still came out with gems like Lord of War and The Weather Man This second coming of Nic Cage which I think has partly been fuelled by social media and his own penchant to do whatever roles he wanted is his second era and I for one am fully here for it !!

Back in the day Nick Cage worked as a parking lot attendent and his buddy John who was a guitar player who came to LA to start a career in music stopped by and they were talking about how John was so broke and Nick told John that there was a casting for a role and John was like "nah man, I don't know anything about acting I'm a musician" and Nick basically told him "it's worth a shot what's the worst that can happen?" and needing the money John was convinced and checked it out, we know know that guitar player as Johnny Depp, the musician who got lost on the way to band practice and accidentally became a famous actor. He was praised by Martin Scorsese himself and commended by Sean Connery. It’s crazy what a couple of memes can do. He spend too much of his fortune back then and had to take on some odd roles but he was always a great actor that is well spoken. This interview, in 3 or 4 parts, sadly, is one of the best late show interviews I have ever watched. Nicolas Cage has become, like Richard Harris and Peter O'Toole, and some other of the other old time great stars of cinema, a brilliant raconteur. Why some dimwitted critics mock him is beyond me, but a lot of American culture is so lowbrow now. He is absolutely fascinating. And the little preview of his latest movie, where he plays Dracula arriving at a group therapy session for codependents is mesmerizing. Nicolas Cage is a hipster, a real one, they are rare now. I bit of a crush here....

As a Greek I *kinda* need to correct Nic here: the Greek word for the acting profession ("ηθοποιός") literally means "someone who generates ethos", someone who generate ethics. But "acting", as in "acting up", yes, it's "hypocrite" ("υποκριτής")... which of course is another Greek word English borrowed. So, yeah, "actor" isn't a "hypocrite" in Greek, but also, it doesn't translate 1-1 to the what acting means these days. Also, blame me for patting our back, but being "someone who generates ethos" sounds kinda better than "someone who pretends".

personally i prefer "someone who pretends" because "someone who generates ethos" is...well...either it's too egocentric, or it's the half truth of a lie, or it's too much gravitas upon 1 cultural role. no matter which way you look, it's dishonest.

He's a great actor who has been in many classic films but he has also been in some really bad ones. He does soo many movies, they cant all be winners... IMO what makes him bad in some movies and good in others is the same thing, he takes chances with his roles. Sometimes they just dont land but other times they are extremely memorable. The people who clown on him only look at the cringy, poor performances and not the good ones. The thing is that he is good way more than he is bad and thats part of what makes him a legendary actor IMO.

The National Treasure movies were an absolute favourite of mine growing up I can't imagine how amazing those must have been to people of the country there are at least two generations of competitive quizzers in my country who had a fire lit in them by those movies. I've seen The Rock, Con Air and Gone in 60 seconds so many times. Stuck with Ghost Rider mostly cause he was in it. However what I most look forward to is the nonexistent hope that one day there might be a sequel to The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Never a boring dull interview with Nicolas Cage, love his laid back cool eccentric quirky nuance yet classy and captivating sophistication. Crazy wild dark sarcastic sense of humour and love his laughter/ giggle. He is 💯 a thespian and king/ lord of Hollywood, pop culture classic cinema. So great of Stephen to ask what his top 5 films are, I can’t pick just that number, there are so many. He is the only reason I will be watching this, him as Dracula is in a league all his own.

As a former co-dependant, and child of a narcissist, who has had a lot of therapy and loves horror-comedy, this movie was a gas. It was fun, and it was over the top in the best places. It was also hella triggering (in a cathartic manner), and its absolutely one of my new top 5s. They touched on the subjects carefully and still got into that beautiful dark humour the traumatised are in love with. My partner and I laughed our asses off throughout, and I demand Nick Cage get an Oscar for his performance. He was so beautifully snide and over-the-top condescending in the most accurate-to-a-narcissist I've seen in a while. The tone and humour in it made the flashbacks easier to deal with 😂😂
