These shows are scripted and they go through what they say before the show....

@@kareemanmar189 Uhh they definitely are not. The interviewee gets a list of topics/questions beforehand that the host is looking to bring up. That list is then modified based on what the interviewee is or is not willing to talk about. Obviously, Nicole knew Conan was going to bring up her dating life, but Conan didn't know what Nicole's response was going to be. An interview is different from a comedy bit; this is the former.

haute03 Actually it’s the other way around with those chat shows. The interviewee tells the interviewer what they want to talk about (or what their publicist told them to talk about) and the interviewer asks the perfect question for a „I‘m glad you asked...“ story.

I used to love watching Johnny Carson (yes, I'm that old) . Johnny's reactions were what made certain interviews so funny. He wouldn't do much with his body, but his expressions were priceless. Conan has the same kind of talent. He doesn't overreact, he just changes the expressions on his face, and it's gold! They are both masters!!!

i actually watched an old clip of Johnny Carson interviewing Bobby Fischer. you can really tell Conan spent hours watching that man, Conan has so many similarities in the style of interview but obviously honed it towards his own silliness lol
