That was great to watch. I have chopped wood for over 50 years, but that was a great tutorial. I guess you mostly split conifers. Here it tends to be more deciduous & I find deciduous easiest to chop when just felled. I also find different woods & different sizes of log like to be split by different axes, so experiment. If one type sticks, but doesn't split, try something different.

We just had some strong winds in the UK so I asked people if I could take the wood as I drove past. Still sawing up the trunks that I have in the garage and have bought a maul, grenade and hatchet so I can season my own wood for next year as the new place also has a log burner.

Ah, to be 30 again!! Now 71, with rods and screws in my back, I can no longer indulge in the very satisfying act of chopping wood for fun and exercise.😢. But damn, girl, I sure do like watching you do so 😊. I do still heat my shop with wood, but have the rounds split for me so I do get to use a light maul and hatchet to get kindling. Kind of like not being able to shoot my .357 mag for fun much, but love my .22. Do as much as you can, for as long as you can. Hope 2024 is your best year ever.

I'm a big fan of outer chops. Center chops are fine if you've got the accuracy (which clearly you do). For center chops, I would also recommend starting on the outside and working inward rather than starting dead center.
