The blue/turquoise-haired mermaid has my heart. The light hair and the pink-ish tail make her softer and younger, more like a carefree character which fits the playful pose really well. Thank you for the video, and the time and effort you put into everything you create and share!

I think the blue haired mermaid picture has more pops of color that draw the eye out and around every part of the piece. The purple haired mermaid draws your eye mostly to the hair and not the tail details.

Maybe if the blue haired one was brinete? As you said, the tail is gorgeous but the hair seems to be too light. I think it should be darker or maybe less vibrant so that the tail could pop up instead of how it is now. Now it looks overwhelming with all that brightness. The other one is really good but tail is not special like the other one. That's my opinion, as it is that both of them are awesome and maybe you should have both of them as a chibi charm. Don't mind my English, it's not my mother language. 😊

I adore the mermaid on the left! Her hair and tail really compliment each other :) Your work is so beautiful! I'm trying to learn Illustrator, but as I make new shapes, if they overlap another shape, they meld together and it's really annoying, I can't figure out how to stop that from happening!

Is that when you use the pencil tool? You will need to look into the pencil's settings for that one I think so that it does not merge the shapes together

Personally I prefer the first version because the strong purple in the hair leads your eyes to her face first, and then down the image. I feel that image is more balanced and harmonious. But I can understand that some would enjoy being drawn the the girl's tale first by the second version of it since that's the appeal of a mermaid. But again personally the pink in the tale is competing for my attention by being a little too contrasting.

hmmm I am still deciding about that. I am considering making a special "Zodiac Princess" charm that is like a galaxy character which would only come with the full set of all 12 characters :) But yeah I can't really give you a 100% answer yet because there are some other factors that I will need to sort out before deciding on this.

While both are gorgeous, personally, I'd go with the purple haired mermaid. The one on the right is slightly confusing due the tail catching the eye first, rather than the face & hair, where as the purple hair framing the face helps to draw your attention to her eyes & leads down her body (hopefully this makes sense)

You know, I totally agree with you on that. From a design standpoint the purple wins by far in my books. But it is interesting that literally 85% of people voted for the blue one. It is hard to know what to do. Perhaps I should turn both into charms and then it will be a great way to test if the blue one does really so much better than the purple.
