I have cut out alcohol and hard drugs from my life but I'm failing when it comes to smoking cigarettes I've been smoking for close to 40+ years and now I'm a slave to this addiction I can't break the chains of this nasty and horrible addiction I tried to cut back and not smoke like I used to now I pray about it on a daily basis I know in the bible it talks about if you think something is not good and not righteous it is sin no where in my Bible study can I find a passage that talks about this subject I know it is sin and I don't want anything to do with nicotine but it has a hold on my body that is unshakable I pray to God about this I know God will heal me and remove this addiction from me but I know it will be on God's timing not mine please pray for me and if you can help me with information on how the best way to quit I would really appreciate ya Thank You and God bless you

Please pray that I can quit smoking nicotine and drinking caffeine. I once quit these things and preached the gospel. Then God spoke to me and told me to put my money into Tesla Motors stock Right before it went up a lot! Now I fell back into these things and am failing miserably at everything. Absolutely great explanation on these issues which are truly a topic as drug laws are evolving… Since Satan cannot create, and God created all things, all things should be measured by the word of God and convictions… the biggest question is, does this hinder your relationship with the Holy Spirit, and be completely honest and your answer.. I’ve seen 400 pound pastors preach about tattoos and marijuana and not say one word about gluttony !!

Very helpful teaching. There is no question that alcohol is a recreational drug, and there is also no question that the Bible doesn't prohibit taking this drug. Furthermore, because taking alcohol (in moderation) is OK, it makes sense to think that taking some other recreational drugs (in moderation) is also OK. On the other hand, as John Piper notes, the down side of taking substances needs to be carefully weighed up in each case. For example, anyone who becomes addicted to a substance is in effect creating a new lord over themself, something other than the Lord Jesus Christ, and that has to be a sin.

I’m obsessive and am a personal stylist and cosmetologist. - I have adhd and binge eating disorder I take a medication that your describing . I used to smoke , quit , started vaping , quit that last February or march . What the heck y’all!

I would smoke to ease the anxiety and depression and essentially clear my head. I could actually concentrate on something and not let the fear of rejection and the unnatural feeling that everyone expected perfection out of the work I do (handyman) inhibit me. I actually got out of the house and was more social. My wife would help with the measuring out of my daily dose. It got to the point where I thought that it wasn’t enough and would look for the stash that was hidden to partake of more that I had agreed to be prescribed. I have battled addiction in all areas of my life. So, the escalation to becoming addicted to weed was no surprise. While smoking, I was a healthy weight, didn’t over eat and didn’t drink any alcohol. My only “vice” was the weed. I have considered going to a counselor for pharmaceutical antidepressants and anti anxiety meds. I abhor the pharmaceutical companies and their agendas and will not partake of their chemical concoctions. However, this would be more socially acceptable than smoking weed. I stopped smoking weed cold turkey about 3 months ago. I have been unable to get out of the house and it seems like I can’t get out of my own way. I have begun to drink again and eat unhealthy amounts of food. My wife and I have seemed to fight daily and my kids are suffering. We are a financial mess. Addiction seems to be a problem for me. While growing up, perfection was expected of me in all things. This has debilitated me and caused the anxieties I have today. I feel as though I cannot partake of any outside substance to help me because of my predisposition to become addicted. If I didn’t have this would it be ok to take medication? Essentially, if I was only a little screwed up and didn’t wrestle with addictive behavior would it be ok? Since I tend to fall into addiction is medication off the table for me?

My two cents on this: my job demands a lot of concentration and I thought about using Adderall or something like that for a while, but then I thought I didn't want to give credit for any success to a drug, just to the Lord, to whom I ask everyday for what's required to do what He wants from me. So, I didn't buy any. Caffeine, on the other hand, I thankt God for it almost every morning. 😊 God bless you all.

I just don't understand how people make an equivalent comparison from tobacco to substances with psychotropic effects. The Bible actually says to be sober minded: (1 Peter 4:7; 5:8; Titus 2:2, 6; 1 Corinthians 15:34) Furthermore, the Greek word used for drugs and witchcraft in the NT is: pharmakeia Tobacco (coffee, sugar) is/are NOT similar to those other substances. Sorry, Christians... "Everything in moderation" does not apply to marijuana, LSD, etc... Drunkenness covers the alcohol arena... You can't sin to the glory of God.
