I didn't mind the trash talk. But he is still not being genuine I find it highly suspicious that he refuses to give the name of his coach. Considering his unprecedented meteoric rise and the allegations that's definitely a relevant question. It would also mean someone else could corroborate his side of the story. Why would he hesitate to answer? He gives some schmaltz about a deceased IM who briefly taught him when he was 9... but no appreciation for the one who helped him get to a position where he gets to play the top players of our time?

@Inner Worlds the thing with chess is that you do have all the facts at hand. All the facts are clearly visible on the table. And your rating is a measure of how well you assess that. There's clearly more to the game of chess and winning, but it's relevant. It's kind of like being an uninformed voter that doesn't really understand the government. Magnus is retiring from chess. He didn't play well and then (indirectly) accuses Hans of cheating. Naka, out of top GM solidarity, initially supported that cheating theory, then later said he didn't! Yeah its strange. Didnt think he's cheating after his interview and passioned response, but his analysis is way different to other top players in that he can't give concrete variations. @@claudiog7692 I agree. You asked us the same question that we can ask Alejandro. You need to be in their shoes to understand their work right...Hans is the one playing on the board and not Alejandro. Discussing lines is fine but trying to undermine Hans' analysis and decision is another level of disrespect..immediately after the Magnus fiasco it was crystal clear. Check that interview by Alejandro. After Magnus left, the interview by alejandro seemed less of a discussion and more of an interrogation...that too using engine lines. This is the exact reason why i asked if you want to interrogate rather than discuss based on rumours....then the best way to settle it is a on the board match with hans. People with social anxiety/social awkwardness/anxiety neurosis might not calculate well in interviews due to pressure of judgement....but perform their best on the board where it's just them , their thoughts and the board.

Regardless of what happened before, Hans appears to have become a very impressive GM. I think it is very likely Magnus, while he may have had his suspicions, left the tournament more so to avoid losing any more Elo points. Also, the way Alejandro was commenting on his play during Round 5 was completely unprofessional. You SLC Club commentators need to get your act together and avoid adding to these insinuations--especially without some solid evidentiary proof. You guys seem to have gotten your act together since then thankfully. It is also clear Alejandro is slightly uncomfortable with Hans receiving the brilliancy prize. He seems to be hoping (as seen in a few of the interviews) that other players manage to provide a better choice than Hans' game against Magnus in Round 3. So far I'd say Hans certainly deserves the $5k. Clearly the commentators were trying to avoid choosing Hans for this. You can even see it in the Round 9 interview with Wesley So. So brought up "Niemann" and the commentators clearly at first tried to avoid this. Pitiful.
