Very interesting game, thanks for the great commentary! It's quite interesting that Niemann, who had to win, tried to provoke the exchange of queens and white, needed only a draw, tried to avoid it as long as possible. These guys really play the position first and only then what they need. It was a really fine positional game with Niemann dominating his opponent slowly but surely. It triumphed with the domination of the d file and the great potential on both wings, particularly the K-side. Hans made just the mistake of playing a move too fast in a winning position. With plenty of time on the clock, this brings plenty of regrets with it. I cannot understand Peter Svidler's reaction, specially since he criticized the move, and not the time taken to play it. This is a regrettable mistake but not a trivial one by any means. It takes a long calculation to understand that taking away from the centre works and even wins. Whereas what Hans made, taking towards the center as usual,threw away the win. So one can and should criticize the lack of thinking time Hans invested there, even though he made a very natural recapture, but to criticize him the way Peter did, is going too far imho. Once more Hans is proving that he's a very special player, something which I said right on the day the scandal started, because I had analysed the game against Magnus ans saw nothing unclean in it. I have analysed many more games since then, including many which were played before the scandal. The most suspicious games feel very human to me and put of maybe 40 analysed games,I have find many surprising moves, but only 1 which I would call dubious from the ethical point of view. I can assure I can find more such moves in my own games and I know I didn't cheat. The guy clearly is at least his elo points worth and still on the rise, I believe. He should win his case quite easily and I hope he's gonna get a 2 digits millions $ compensation (3 digits would be too much) from his accusators.
@epicchess2021
@epicchess2021 Жыл бұрын
No worries thanks for watching! Yeah agree with your comments except with Svidler my personal take on it was that he was calling the time management a shocker not the fact he missed the idea, because he says the comment literally after Jan says that Norman has just blitzed out gxf4, but I didn’t include that part of the clip because didn’t want to give away the move. But yeah Hans is certainly showing he belongs in the 2700 club I’d say and if he builds more consistency now I think he could start pushing 2750 within a year or so

@frednimzowi9852
@frednimzowi9852 Жыл бұрын
@@marzipanhunt2870 That was not Carlen's best move but a bad loser one. He hasxa long history of bad reactions after losing games, even though he doesn't lose that often. That was his worst ever, and I do believe that Magnus is sincère in his accusations but I came to the conclusion that he was wrong after analysing that game plus about 40 other Hans Niemann games. Regarding the willingness to cheat, you make the same mistake that many people do: consider that online cheating is the same as OTB cheating. The first ones are non official games, no arbiter, they do non count for the official rating. Hans explanation for the childish online cheating is a very credible one: increase his online rating so as to play against stronger players. Still completely wrong and disrespectful but very different than cheating in official games. Cheating while training in other sports happens multiple times everyday but you never sees this in the news. Finally let me explain that writing words in big characters doesn't add anything except showing bad temper and disrespect to the person you're writing to. So regarding disrespect: try and clean your own house first.😉😁

Given the amount of time Hans had, and the obviously very different paths down which the two competing pawn capture candidate moves would have led, it is amazing that he didn't use that time to work at least some of this out. Not a matter of cheating obviously but of poor game management on his behalf. I personally wouldn't have accepted the draw at the end, given that a win was a very real possibility and the chances of losing then vanishingly small for even a competent player, never mind a GM. Perhaps he was just so relieved that Hans missed the winning choice of pawn capture. Or perhaps he was just so desperate to get his hands on that silverware and prize money. Alekhine wouldn't have accepted that offer of a draw, I'm sure!
@epicchess2021

Yeah that was the shocking thing here really, not the mistake but the time management like you say. And yeah I wonder if Hans had one eye on staying over 2700 for the January ratings and so didn't want to needlessly turn it into a loss. Thanks for watching, Mark

I hear you but people who have it in them to cheat once are much more likely to cheat again. He may not be a broke streamer anymore but people who are able to justify cheating to themselves because they are broke could just as easily say, “well I’m off my game today but I’ve worked really hard so I’m going to cheat because I deserve to win.” I wouldn’t say once a cheater always a cheater but like criminals in prison it’s much more likely they resort to crime/cheating in the future than someone without that in their past. If you make the decision to cheat you have to accept that if you get caught you’re going to be under the microscope for the rest of your life. The fact that Hans hasn’t just been like “I’m sorry I cheated when I was younger, I was stupid, it won’t happen again,” makes me feel like either he severely lacks perspective or has something else going on.

@@epicchess2021 He didn't cheat because he was broke. He cheated because of his own excessive pride. He considered low ELO games were not worthy of himself so cheating was a good way to accelerate the grind to high ELO and more interesting games. As long as the pride is here he has his motivation to cheat. Now he has the interesting games he wanted. But by cheating his way to the top he missed on several important aspects of the game like time management or being able to identify key positions that require deeper analysis. Previously in a blitz game with 1:30 on the clock he completely missed a mate in 3 without studying the board and right after he spent almost his entire clock on a single move. And thus forced himself to seek for a draw because his opponent had a solid enough position to hold and beat him on time.

I don't understand the Draw Offer. He moved his Knight and Offered, but his other Knight is on threat of Pawn. So White has to move the Pawn or lose it, and if he moves the Pawn that only buys 1 Turn as the Knight moves to F3... to threaten the pawn that now can't move anymore. So I suppose the best thing is for White to concede that Pawn to Knight where it stands and do something else. But what? Bishop can't go anywhere useful. Moving to D2 supports a Pawn that doesn't need help. Moving to B2 threatens a Pawn, but then you lose Bishop to A4 Knight. Moving to A3 against supports a Pawn that isn't under attack. King can't move to Row 4 due to Pawn Checks to try to push up and pressure Pawns. Knight can threaten the 7 Row Pawn, protected from the King taking it due to the Pawn on E4... but do you trade a Knight for a Pawn in 2 Moves, when you're already losing a Pawn and opening up a Promotion Run on the H File? The main issue here is your Knight is now kind of useless on the A File, EXCEPT it's taking away a crucial square from that Bishop. Bishop can't attack Center Pawn BECAUSE the Knight is here, and Bishop really can't move like the Knight can't really move... makes this sort of fair and a Knight vs. Knight situation (the free Knights on the Left). This looks pretty strong for Hans because Pawn Advantage and a Promotion Push on Left is going to force that Knight to block the Pawn... which becomes one less piece (while down a piece) that White can move. And if it's walking the King over to H... well now you aren't supporting your center pawn and my Knight takes that in 2 moves by moving to 3C. The issue with 3C is NOW the Bishop activates to threaten MY center Pawn, but I fix that by simply moving my King to D6. So I take your Pawn, you take my Pawn... but I still have my Knight and you lose your Bishop. Moving my King to D6 also activates my C Pawn so now I can move it to C4. We either trade Pawns, due to my King protecting... which gives my B Pawn a path. Or I just keep my Knight shutting down the Bishop, move my King over to block his A File Pawn, take his H File Pawn and force him to respond Left. Then I run my C Pawn up, and we can Trade or he allows it to pass. This does open up the Bishop to finally attack my Center Pawn... but by now I can move my Left Side Rook to cover that, H3, G5, F7 while your King is trying to stop my Pawn Run. I just don't see the clear cut move that shuts down a Hans attack, and stopping the A File Pawn can be down with the K, since the Knight isn't allowing the Bishop to threaten the Center Pawn. What is the golden bullet White has here?
@davhen5874

U just said it. How can u expect to win if you can generally only stop the promotion by blocking with the king. White king just marches in avoiding forks and clears the way for his other pawns

@@davhen5874 But if the Bishop is pinned by the Knight, and the White King has to protect the push over on Left... how is he marching forward? When? Knight is taking Pawn next move, so King has to start heading Left NOW if he's going to stop Black's Promotion.
@davhen5874
@davhen5874 Жыл бұрын
@@theclimbto1 from my perspective even if knight takes the pawn white is able to stop the promotion while blacks king is basically paralyzed. Black has one passer and so does white. The difference is black has to paralyze thier king to stop the promotion whereas white will simply stop blacks outside passer take it and head over to take blacks other pawns freeing them to go forward. White is simply going to win. Along as they are careful to not be forked by the knight which will try to interfere there won't be any problem.

Your commentary is great, however the one piece that is lacking in your videos is the StockFish eval bar (the black and white bar showing what StockFish thinks of the current position, and whether white or black is winning, that is attached to the side of most online chessboards these days).

Thanks a lot appreciate it! Yeah I mean I deliberately don’t include it because I think it distracts and also detracts from my messages which are focussed more on positional aspects and the ‘story’ of the position. Pretty much all mainstream channels don’t include it for similar reasons so I’m afraid I won’t be putting it in. Appreciate the feedback though and sorry I can’t do this one! Cheers for watching anyway
@jcrobot

I agree. I think it's better to include it because a lot of people who don't know much about chess have no idea looking at a board who has the advantage. I also find it a little bit entertaining saying how much the bar fluctuates with every move.

You've got it perfectly. Too few mistakes and it's proof that he's using a computer. To little and it's proof that his good games were computer aided. Considering Magnus Carlsen essentially took a dump on the chess board in the most recent game against Niemann, and then followed up that performance by being bodied by a 2400 rated player who had the black pieces, there's no other conclusion than those two are his actual, unassisted level. Or they could be ordinary chess players who have their ups and downs. Nah.

The sad part is, because of Niemann's compulsive cheating and denials, and several high-integrity analyses of both his online and OTB games showing an extremely high likelihood of cheating in both styles, even if he isn't cheating and truly playing at this level, nobody with a sound mind will ever believe him. Someone who cheats hundreds of times in the past simply cannot be given the benefit of the doubt. He's proven himself to be someone who will break the rules if ever allowed the opportunity, and moreover, someone who will actively seek out ways to break the rules if confident he will not get caught.

I wish Hans decided not to cheat in his past games. He played phenomenally against Magnus without cheating, but his past is creating doubt in everyone's minds. Lesson to up and coming talented chess players: do not ruin your reputation or the integrity of the game by cheating. You just might get good enough to face the best player on earth and perhaps beat him spectacularly. You will want to have a clean record when the world sees that match.

By the way Alekseenko's Rde2 made no sense, was he cheating when he played better too?
