its kinda funny that a lot of people still doesn't realize that 2B and 9S love each other but just doesn't realize that the other loves the other xD and also that the plot is more like a tragic love story between 2 androids than androids versus machines.

0rnami I got into this game solely because of these two and the fanart that fuled my desire to see them get together. Since I don't own a PS4 and don't want to get it for the PC (master race lol), I decided to watch Kyle McCarley's (the voice of 9S) playthrough of the game and...it was worth it. You even get to see him frequently play it with Kira Buckland (voice of 2B) and even guest a couple other voices from the game. I would recommend you check it out (or just parts of it), even if you plan on getting the game for youself. He personally reads all of the unvoiced dialogue (and sometimes has whoever's with him help out), so you get an even more complete experience, along with getting to see him and Kira react to all the big moments (since they only knew the bare minimum needed to voice their lines, it left most of the experience new to them upon playing). I just finished the main playthrough vids and it left me weaping and feeling like my life has been improved for having encountered it in this way.

9S' first mission is the one at the start of the game. 2B kills him three times, when they detonate their black boxes, when she chokes him to death, and when they detonate their black boxes again.

SN GO It's confirmed that 2B and 9S have gone on several missions together before the beginning of the game. 2B is actually a "2E" model, the E meaning Execution. 9S has consistantly found out the secrets of YoRHa and 2B's identity and it is her job to kill him and wipe his memories every single time. She is cold towards him because she doesn't want to get attached to someone she has to kill.

its really a good set up that she really have to kill 9S ( eventhought everytime she did it all in situation like using the blackbox is the only option so players like us dont curious about it) actually it was some hints if u pay attention like when they used blackbox at the first time she got back and met him ,knew that e remembered nothing (watch her hand) and many more hints....

Even if you didn't research the lore and additional material available, A2's line spoken within the game to 9S at the end spells out they knew each other for a lengthy period of time. "2B hated to keep killing you. It caused her so much pain..." That wouldn't make a lot of sense had they just met recently. She also pretty plainly states he knew she had a secret identity.

And oh yes, at the end it in summary it says that their bodies and memories can be saved, so they are still alive in ending A and E, but if we truly want to know what happens next well, we need to wait for dlc or the next game that releases in 2018

*some spoilers* yeah, I think it's meant to make us deside on what we think is best XD or what we would like that the censored thing says (or that it means both). I mean, the quotes from adam that have **** in it, could stand for: fuck, love,kill, feel... yeah. could stand for a lot of things. but Adam is talking alot about hate in those sentences, which makes me think he is talking about 9S's hate about being killed, over and over again. also I recently discovered the prequel novellas where there is a mission that could explain more about 9S *SPOILER AHEAD ABOUT THE GAME* .............. 2B have a mission to kill 9S, but 9S find out about this and tries to fight back. for some reason alot of the scenes before ending e and d makes sense now. especially the part where 9S screams out that he want to kill 2B. but at the same time he takes her death pretty serious... so I dunno, Maybe 9S is just crazy... XD

Spoilers!! Yeah I read that novella and it was crazy. But as you know that version of 9S is gone and the current one only knows brief infoes about that incident if not non at all. I just want to think that he has an equal measure of love and hate towards 2B. Like you said he took her death pretty serious.

Western fans interpret 2B/9S relationship in two ways: 1) they have a sibling-style relationship 2) they love each other romantically What if I told you it could be *BOTH?* The answer lies in Japanese mythology (Shinto): - for one, "Shinto" translates literally to "Way of the Gods" (ring a bell? Hotline Cat even if that's the case and 2B is designed to be like... 40, he'd be 20. But I doubt that anyways. Still, its pretty obvious androids don't have sexual organs. Dead bodies of other players can be found and they are in fact naked, but have no genitals or even nipples. Not even the males from players who were playing as 9S at the time of death.

I'm still not fully convinced they love each other romantically. The only times I recall that I thought it could be a romance were when he used the clone's hand to caress his own face. And the anime ending. Other than that it's pretty ambiguous if it's truly romantic love. The main problem is that we don't actually see how their feelings develop. So it's too vague to know if they loved each other romantically or not. 9S in fact slightly flirts with the operator at one point, and 2B spends most of her time trying to divert from the fact she has to kill him so it's hard to get an insight on what form of love she feels for him. In memory cage we're already seeing the point in which she kills him. I'd like to have read about their missions and time together before she first killed him to know how she behaved towards him before having to put her facade up. I'm not saying it would be absurd for it to be romantic, and I don't need an explicit "I love you". But I would have liked to have seen more of a desire to be a couple, and particularly what is that they love in each other. The story works just well with it being a friendship-sibling bond.
