Hidden option - In Route C, you will have a chance to gain control of A2. There will come a scene where you will need to decide the fate of pascal after the child machines committed suicide because of fear. Pascal will ask A2 to delete his memories or just kill him. A2 has a choice to kill or delete. She can also just walk away and leave Pascal alone.

I figured, killing him or wiping his memories are basically the same. Whatever Pascal turns out after the wipe wouldn't be the same as I know him, without all the experiences he's had. So, I opted for leaving him alone, but almost instantly regretted it when he said "how could you do this to me"... They really make you feel for these machines, this game is genius.

Xnerdz honestly it actually reminds me of a Transformer in situation very similar. He lost his lover and couldn’t deal with the pain and wanted to forget (he had machine that erased memories) He was told by his friend not to because not only does his lover deserve to be remembered but revealed it was not the first time it had happened to him. He had multiple lovers who each tragically died and each time he couldn’t deal with the pain, so he chose to erase his own memories, leading him to be doomed to repeat the same mistakes! His friend told he that he shouldn’t forget, that his pain will change, it won’t go but it’ll eventually turn into something else. Something he could live with. And his friend knew . He should know because unlike him, he chose to remember. IDW Transformers More then meets the eye-lost light (brilliant series)

Yeah, remembering and learning from mistakes is part of growing. Forgetting is basically emotional _procrastination._ I wish Nier expended a bit more on Pascal's fate afterwards, but I understand how difficult it must be to offer so many choices to the player in the first place, and then having to program all the consequences. They already made A LOT on that front... But yeah, when done correctly, deep moral dilemmas ads a lot to games or movies. Even if it's not the centerpiece of the story.

Xnerdz I think the point of not showing Pascal’s faith is perfect because of how it could now go in any direction! Him dying of memory erasure has predictable results. But him living with his memories has infinite possibilities. For better or worse. Us not witnessing the result adds to the mystery of his final choice. But at least whatever he decides will be his choice. Not ours. And that’s brilliant It makes him more human

From A2 standpoint it's either kill him so he doesn't suffer A2's fate or let him suffer the same fate as herself and walk away. Don't know which one would she choose though. Wiping memories isn't what A2 would do, I think?

I did this yesterday without even a knowledge that there's a 3rd option, i thought the door won't open if i walk through it. But i've decided to repeat this and walk away again since i forgot to save when the pods let me choose 9S to play. And because i've seen the opinions of the folks in this vid. But if i wipe his memories he'll just repeat the same mistakes and it'll be hard to see him sell off the parts of the machine kids at the shop in the village. My conscience won't also stop bugging me if kill an innocent machine who hasn't done any harm to me. So the best choice here is leaving him alone and allow him to learn to accept reality and let him learn to become stronger emotionally, that's how humans grow so that's what i'll do to him.

What do you mean by repeating the same mistakes? I dont know if I should be talking about this, but... Im not really sure about "let him learn to become stronger emotionally. Thats how humans grow." Because the children and everyone in the village was everything for him. If someone took that away, theres a high chance something bad will happen to him. Be it suicide or vengeful personality full of hatred. Because we humans are like that. Unless theres someone that can be a psychological support for him, or something that can give him a new reason to live without losing sense of who he was (without a sense of hatred). Well, 9S is also a good example. Hes driven by hatred bcus of the death of 2B. I studied psychology, and human philosophy is one of the subject. I dont know, but I personally think.. sometimes, in a very specific case, maybe it would be better to wipe out some parts of traumatic memories. If it can bring the person to a better life in the future. Its just that we dont have any means to do so.. Humans memories are not like a data, it cannot be erased at will, whenever we want

@@fahriza88 I get where u're coming from, way i see it Pascal will most likely have 45% chance to commit suicide, 45% chance to go insane (via Logic virus), and 10% chance to be a better and stronger machine. The reason why i said that letting him learn how to be stronger emotionally is he's not the only remaining good machine in that world, there are still a bunch of good machines that have cut ties with the network and that they can be Pascal's new motivation or reason to move forward and be stronger instead of falling into depravity. The machine guy who's an acquaintance of Pascal living at the Forest near the entrance of the Canyon can become his emotional support. In one of the route where Pascal's memories got wiped, he's been selling parts and cores of the machine kids in his shop at the Machine Village. Would u call that a good end for him? Of course not, if he learned that those machine parts were once he cherished the most he'll be depressed again and ask the player to wipe his memories again. That's what i mean about "Repeating the same mistake"...We humans learn from mistakes and grow more than before...Machines don't, not as long as they don't learn the meaning of "Loss" and "Grief"
@Moa_Smug
@Moa_Smug 5 жыл бұрын
@@fahriza88 Not only the good machines are the only ones that can be his psychological support, Anemone, 9S, 2B, the Resistance members who like good machines are all there for him... Androids also knew the meaning of Loss and Grief since they've been fighting an endless war for far too long, they've lost a lot of friends in battle but they still managed to move forward without losing themselves...They've even lost the Bunker and 95-97% of YoRHa androids have been exterminated, and yet they still managed to pull themselves back up. Killing urself is never the answer to all ur problems, and wiping the memories won't bring back those that've been lost either.
@fahriza88
@fahriza88 5 жыл бұрын
@@Moa_Smug mmm you have a good point tho. I guess theres no absolute right or wrong answer to this. It really depends on how we see things. Pascal sells the children machine's cores simply bcus he has no idea about what it is. You can tell about who he was, and what is the stuff that he sells. But if that happens, I think, most likely he will only think that its not a good thing to do, if his conscience and heart is still the same as it was before. And he wont be depressed again. Because his memories with the children machines already gone. Grief (which can turn into depression) most likely only happens if you keep remembering the good memories that you had with the people that you've lost. For this case, Im only concerned about Pascal's well being in the future. For this purpose, deleting his memories has higher chance. If forgetting that event can bring him to a better life, then I'll erase his memories. Sadly, in this case, the memory cannot be deleted partially, but must be deleted as a whole. Its also bcus the options are limited, tho. Maybe you have a good intention, but by leaving Pascal, A2 didnt even say anything. Then most likely he will feel that A2 just doesnt care about him and abandoned him, at that time. By the way, this is a very specific case. Im not saying that forgetting stuff is always a good thing. But I feel like its a better option for Pascal. Some things that I considered, is the fact that Pascal also had intense guilty feeling. Bcus the children commit suicide bcus he taught them about fear. This is not a simple case of grief. Theres another game with similar case like this. Final Fantasy Type 0. Another Square Enix game, lol. In that game, its even worse bcus the characters live in the world where memories of deceased people automatically erased, so they wont feel grief at all. Later in the story, some characters started to dislike this "system", bcus of some reasons. And Im agree with them. But I guess we'll only talk about that if you want. Its a different case from Pascal, in my opinion

I think this is actually a solid choice, they wanted to experience what it's like to be human, and as a human no matter what happens you can't just delete your memories. You either live with them and move forward or you check out, but it's something you have to do yourself.

Interesting fact: it doesn't matter which choice you choose. Pascal either forgets and sells his villagers body parts, gets killed by your hands, or he kills himself. This is literally a good example of human emotional interaction from both sides. Where one who feels the others pain, decides whether if it is best take them out of their misery, and the other dealing with such a pain, they can't live on any longer. All of these are human action, and to display these in androids/robots, really makes the game stand out so much. The fear of learning how to move on, and the fear of making such a difficult choice. Now that I have played this quest again, I suddenly realized that the machines (and androids) are already perfect on imitating humans. What 9S found out about how they failed time and time again wasn't because they lack the ability to learn. In fact 9S confirmed himself that they are incredibly adaptive and learn even faster than humans. What they lack is the ability to live with their own mistakes. And it's not like they can't, they just choose not to, because unlike humans, they can just wipe their own memories and live their lives anew. That ability is both a blessing for their own mind and a curse for their kind as a whole. That is the reason why the 3rd option is the only good one that us, the humans, can give Pascal no matter what he might do afterwards. Because even if he choose suicide, he will finally have a taste of being human

A lot of people seem to think this is the most "humane" option, to let him go on with his suffering. I completely disagree. Up to this point in the game Pascal has helped you whenever you needed it and done everything you requested. He even shows up at some boss fights to offer encouragement despite being a pacifist. If you respect Pascal and his (possible) sentience, then I think it's monstrous to leave him alone and suffering when he has asked you for something so simple. What HE wants is his memory deleted (and if you aren't able to do that, to kill him). If you leave him alone, he'll find another way. I don't believe he'll suddenly realize how wise you are and that THIS is what it means to be human. If you kill him, that's the end of it. If you delete his memory there is a chance that in a few hundred years things will turn out differently for him. If you don't understand this and think he is doomed to repeat the same things, then you haven't seen or have misunderstood ending E and what the pods come to realize.

Anyone here who killed Pascal? It sounded logical to me. Pascal was very sad due to the loss, so much that he gave up on existing. If we walked away, it would be our selfishness in trying to make him live. He disappeared after that. Who knows what happened to him? Maybe he suffered a cruel death in tha hands of other machines? What if he became evil out of his grief? Even androids have no way once they are overwhelmed by emotions. Walking away would be very cruel on Pascal. Wiping his memories would basically install a new soul into him. It would change who he is. It's no different than killing him, except with the added pain of watching him sell the parts of his own children and brethren. Killing him would leave him in peace. He no longer has to face the sorrow again. Most logical, so I killed him.

The thing is, wiping his memories is more or less the equivalent of helping him commit suicide, because all the things that make Pascal who he is are in his memories. Without those, he might as well be someone else. It's a person's memories who shape who they are. To put it another way, imagine if something this traumatic happened you or someone you loved in real life. Would you want to have your memories wiped, knowing you'd forget everyone you loved, both living and dead? Would you wipe the memories of a person you loved, knowing they'd forget everything about you and everyone else in their lives and that they'd see you as a stranger?

@@DolusVulpes yes. I'd choose to forget or make them forget if it was their choice. Sometimes someone staying alive is worse than death, because they can cause harm to those around them. A lot of harm and I've experience it firsthand. You can't be altruistic in life because life is fair for everyone by being unfair equally. Also i don't remember if Pascal has consciousness or is just a machine behaving in a certain way then, there is no choice because Pascal never was. At the end of the day we're responsible for our own happiness. You die every second because you become another person every second. You're nothing like your childlike self. The atoms of your body are different, your brain changes constantly reconstruction. Every second that passes, every second your knowledge changes you change. You can call it not death if you like. Your body is made of atoms that have no life, your body is made of different kind of tissue and bacteria and microorganisms that without them you'd die in seconds. And they all change. Death isn't as easy to pin point. Humans created the idea that we are alive. But we're made of rocks and trees and rivers and earth. The whole things is a definition made by humans to elevate ourselves from the world around us.

Doesn't really matter because in the end the sun will go into supernova. But, you will never know what possibilities pascal might have had if he start anew this time. I helped Pascal by giving him a chance to deal with what he just caused, instead of instantly snuffing him out of existence. I didn't know I wouldn't get a chance to see or interact with him again though, that made my decision feel really difficult, but I still say that he would be better off alive and with his own memories. Pascal isn't on the main system so he does not repeat what he does not remember. He is actually sentient. When you erase his memory, Pascal mearly starts selling parts. If you do this, it is confirmed he commits suicide.

In a novel that happens chronologically after the game, it’s said that pascal made some kind of resistance against “bad” machines

Well leaving him results in him disappearing and likely commiting suicide, killing him well kills him, and wiping the memory turns him into a shop that sells you the children's cores. You feel like shit no matter what.

@@guillaumeguitarian9642 The disappearing bit is actually canon you don't ever see Pascal again if he retains his memory. The suicide bit is fan theory after he disappears we hear of nothing from him except that we know that he really really didn't want to live anymore as he was.

@@iaxacs3801 What pascal wanted was a short solution while suffering. I think more positive, that with time as he has already passed from fight to peace, he could finally accept the reality and become stronger, rebuilt a new village with new converted robots or go to resistance base and live with androids. Official fan's theory is so dark !!! I know that if we erase Pascal memories he'll became a junk dealer that sells the children parts so as far as i'm concerned it's the same if we'had kill him. Leaving him alive with his memories has much more futur possibilities !

@@guillaumeguitarian9642 I never said it's the main theory it's a theory. It's just the one I subscribe to, yours is just as likely. That's the magic of leaving the ending to a character open like this.

This was like my first choice. I wasn't "brave" enough to kill him but I don't think that erasing his momeries was good. Endure that kind of pain is hard but... I dunno, life just keep moving forward, even if the children died. Fuck, I feel bad again after four years, damm.
