I see this ending as a happy one. The administrators were amazed by replicants potential. In Automata we also know that the replicant data is stored at the moon servers. With the defeat of Machine Network in Automata ending E there is a chance that remaining androids can re-create sane replicants and live together as heirs of humanity. There is hope for Nier world.

Okay can we talk about how amazing this set up is to an extent? It's tedious af for people who just want to get all the endings. But imagine few years down the line you decided to replay replicant, you're back into the swing of things and in the first acts atmosphere, just to be woken up and suddenly you remember everything that happened? That would be wild for anyone who didn't look up anything or had no interest in getting everything done.

Love this new Ending but for some reasons, Ending C still hit me the most. Especially their first kiss... "Lets go home, Kaine."

Hearing the music box version of the shadow lord theme that gradually grows into the epic version with Nier quotes in the background gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes.

I love how the music keeps getting more complex after recovering more memories in 25:27, as if gradually putting something into motion. It's really well executed

In Nier Automata, Yorha units and machines ran on black boxes, which I remember being described as “plant-like”. In addition, I remember some lore about how every machine in Automata contained some sort of human memory or something. Now we have a tree of memory that builds plant-like machines and has it has administrators that look like prototype Yorha units. So was there ever actually an alien invasion in Automata or was that fabricated too and why? Or did the aliens simply repurpose this technology for their own purposes?

I remember the first time I played this years ago, that ending D really hit me like brick and once I played Automata, Kaine's shack filled with lunar tears meant that she's searching for that lost memory till her death broke me. Finally doing justice for Kaine. She finally got the chance to live with Nier and Emil even if it's only for a short while since as we know, Emil lived for another thousand of years.

To anyone thinking this flower is a reference to Drakengard 3: it's not. The most contentious part is the song that they claim to hear, which many will associate with the Flower. However, keep in mind what "words" are in Nier (and Drakengard): words are magic. You collect words through the blood of shades. You collect sealed verses from larger shades to perform magic with Weiss. Having understood that, imagine what a song could do? From Grimoire Nier, during this scene: “Using the power of magic to fuse machines, humans and plants together, this is the truth behind this world! Amazing! Amazing! A replicant like you can reach this level! Amazing!” Understanding that magic = song, we can then rationally determine that Kaine is using magic, the power of her own song, to create the Lunar Tear and bring Nier, her salvation, back from her memories. Music has so much prominence in the Nier/Drakengard universe. Without the outstanding soundtracks, can we all really say that some of the scenes in these games would have hit us as hard as they did? Music communicates feeling: it helps us connect with these silly video game characters. That's pretty magical if you ask me. But yeah, it's not the flower from Drakengard 3. Sorry.

Sooo... I get that a lot of people felt this ending kind of cheapens the original ending, and I understand why. But god damn, I've had games bring me to tears before, but seeing the party reunited after over 10 years of being resigned to the fact that this story had no happy ending was just... Onions. Even during the last boss fight I was choking up. And I get it, this is *hardly* a happy ending, everyone is still very much doomed. But it's so much more hopeful from the characters' perspectives.

Ending E is pretty cool. I love how it toyed with what I did in Nier Automata. So with the PS4 version I backed up my save data in the cloud but I turned off automatic updates for the game during the last section. When I beat the game my save went away and I really loved what the game tried to do but then I just redownloaded my save data and kept playing side quests beating the game again every so often but updating my cloud save before starting the ending again just to retain the progress I made in side missions. At first I was proud of myself for beating the system and basically finding a way to troll others because I’d willingly do the credits sequence multiple times and allow a ton of other peoples save data to be deleted each time. But then I eventually asked myself...why am I still playing this? Why am I still in this world? Because I got my save back nothing has gotten better and in fact I am making everything worse by wasting my time in a place I’ve been long done with and also screwing over the intent behind others sacrifices to let me keep having fun. The final ending for this showing up with a “here is your save data back, you are helping nothing by using it.” Just hit me hard when I thought about me making my own version of that narrative and feeling bad about it already when that wasn’t suppose to be part of Automata to begin with. Video games are weird and I love how beautiful regarding thinking about life they can be.

It might sound selfish as hell, but I dont care if the world ends tommorow. I just want them all to be happy in that very moment. After that whole shit they've been through, they deserve it.

I watched Drakengard 3 branch D ending again and Accord had said that Zero might be alive somewhere, then in Nier Automata 9s, 2b and A2 are being repaired, then the goodbye message of Nier Replicant ver 1.22 saying "we'll meet again". I dont think these are just coincidences or was just put together as a regular goodbye message. I think these are hints on upcoming games. My speculation is that these messages are intentional, and will culminate in a game wherein the protagonists of Drakengard, Drakengard 3, Nier Replicant and Nier automata will meet and finally get a happy ending. Why I speculated such will happen because of Nier Replicant Ending E, wherein the forest administrator told Kaine that she has potential, and that possible futures are blending with the time that they currently inhibited. With the game's lore wherein Magic is heavily involved, meeting with the other protagonist is definitely possible. Heck, the forest administrators even mentioned that they heard a "song". Zero had an ability to manipulate magic through songs so its definitely possible that they were talking about Zero meeting with the trio, or the new protag of the next game meeting all of them. Then Accord was mentioned in Yonah's diary, meaning she was also recording the events of Nier Replicant. I didn't get to play Drakengard 3 and was just reading information about Accord, and its stated that Accord is seeking to save humanity, and hates bad endings. With that in mind, I speculate that the next series of games that are tied to these games will finally culminate into a happy ending.

I finished Nier Gestalt on ps3 back when it first came out. This new ending is what I needed after those 13 years.

My friend tricked me and told me I had to play through the game and get back to adult protagonist to see the final ending, but he said skipping cutscenes was okay because I wouldn't miss anything different. So when Kaine was drifting in darkness and I tried to skip that cutscene, the message "THIS MEMORY CANNOT BE STOPPED" appeared at the top right and I remember saying out loud "Oh FUCK it's starting now."

I am so glad they made the audio play ending canon!

Don't know how it'd work exactly I'd absolutely love to see a full game though just with kaine and emil going on adventures and doing stuff in general. Hell you could even make a game just with emil probably set between replicant and automata and all the stuff he got up too there.

I was a bit disappointed that we could not use her blade beam and orb attacks she so happily spammed during normal game-play. Was an incredible twist to play as Kaine though. Perhaps some day we might be able to play as Emil too in a future game. Very interesting to find out the magic memory tree is not magic at all, but a huge server/storage for data and analysis. This might well explain how A2 got her personality imprint from Kaine. This huge server/storage tree likely created more androids, perhaps the original plans for the creation of YoRHa came from this thing.

Hi :) I have a short question. I finished Ending E yesterday and saved at the junk heap with the boy before we get the Kaine route. Now I have my old save file back and the one at the junk heap before we get to play as Kaine. Now my question: When I load the junk heap save and fight against Hook again. Do I then get to play as Kaine again? I really want to know because I want to play as her but this time with alle the costumes. Is that possible to play as many times as her if you have the junk heap save?

Anyone knows what happened when you go to village after accepting the guard's quest? Can we see Yonah?
