Guys, for real though, this dish made my day back when I was studying abroad and feeling down (one of those horrible days, y'know). Groceries were kinda expensive, I was on a budget and I had my allowance stretched for that month because I had to buy some books required for class. I was hungry and obviously take out was out of the question. Randomly googled recipes with the remaining ingredients I had, which coincidentally were enough to make this recipe. Tried it out and I swear I would have cried if I weren't so happy that I actually could eat something so simple, delicious, and warm.

Me too-- feels so jarring when I'm watching something tranquil and the obnoxious soundtrack music explodes like music from an Akihabara electronics shop. A cooking video is no place for screaming J-Pop girls flashing me victory signs whilst pulsing techno music crushes my eardrums with bleeps and bloops and fluffy, exhausting drums. I'll take a gentle cupboard closure and a thrworping yogurt stir any day, thank you Nigella. :D

You can't touch anything without leaving fingerprints!! Especially the fridge door always looks as if a herd of kids, one after the other, opened it with their filthiest hands ... No! Never buy a stainless steel kitchen if it doesn't come with a Mrs.mopp who keeps polishing it ...

Mr Brightside Then you must be new to Nigella. Being hectic and positively unrestrained is her trademark. It’s always been her style to bang the pot to the max then devour her delicacies with absolute bliss since the days of Nigella Bites. This was a woman who twisted the recipes just so she could have “cook’s treats” later.

Nice to see Çılbır as a BBC recipe. I find the tips quite to the point, but my preference of a Sunday morning Çılbır is somewhat different: - I use 2 to 3 eggs and keep them a bit longer in the water. The yolk needs to be a bit less fluid - it should not completely spill into the mixture. Think of a very, very ripe peach: That is the expected form. - I prefer to follow the "İskender" approach, which involves cutting the toasted bread slices into small pieces (like croutons) and using this as a bedding for the yogurt. If you have Pide, that would be a better choice than toasted bread, of course - speaking of "İskender"! - Fresh dill is not a bad idea at all, but I prefer the following mixture: A teaspoon of Nana mint (also the popular choice in Turkey), a teaspoon of dried stinging nettle seeds (for the grassy smell, alternatives would be dried and ground dandelion or ribwort plantain leaves), a tad bit of oregano and a tad bit of cumin. - Every once in a while, depending on my mood, I roast three teaspoons of sesame additionally for the mixture. More often in winter than in summer. - I could never use that much butter for the chili sauce, but that is my gastritis talking, so nevermind. ^^ - Finally, I drink a cup of fennel-lemon tea along with it. Works like a charm in balancing the stomach and helping digestion. There talks my gastritis again. ^^

This recipe is one of the many ways we eat our eggs in Turkey. This dish is called çılbır (read as chil-birr). If there is one recipe that deserves to be called Turkish eggs, it is menemen. It far more common in our kitchens than çılbır. It would be awesome to watch Nigella's take on that too.

Sener S meh, depends. I disagree. As a kashmiri, turkish food is very bland! But for people that grew up on bland food (british cuisine) turkish food can seem very flavorful to them. But in terms of depth of flavour - indian/pak/chinese cuisine is where it is at (my opinion ofc : )
@SenerS10
@SenerS10 6 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Chinese, Indian, Pakistani food and their recipes are overkill of spices. You can't taste the flavour of meat and vegetables most of the time. They use too much spices and after few times, you start to dislike the taste of those spices.
