Charles Boyer's career evolution is impressive. A reliable romantic lead in films like Algiers (1938) and Love Affair (1939), to takings risks with darker roles such as his fantastic performance in Gaslight (1944) with Ingrid Bergman. Then towards the end of his career, he was a great comedic character actor, see his performance in Barefoot In The Park (1967), alongside the next generations big timers, Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. I know he did quite a few TV episodes in the 1950's, so I'm looking forward to this one. Thanks, PizzaFlix!

Don't forget that Boyer had a successful career on stage and in movies beginning in the Silent era through the thirties in France.

The series was "Four Star Playhouse" (the four stars being Dick Powell, David Niven, Charles Boyer, and Ida Lupino), which aired on CBS on Thursday evenings for four seasons (1952 to 1956). "Night at Lark Cottage" was the 26th episode (of 38) of the 3rd season. It originally aired on 24 March 1955. (Another outstanding "Four Star Playhouse" teleplay from the show's 3rd season is Episode 27 - namely, "The Girl on the Bridge," starring Dick Powell, Coleen Gray, Alexander Campbell, Lawrence Dobkin, and Celia Lovsky. Teleplay is by Thomas Phipps, and the director is Roy Kellino (first husband of Pamela Mason; he directed 46 episodes of "Four Star Playhouse" over the course of 4 seasons). It aired originally on 31 March 1955 - and it is also one of many "Four Star Playhouse" episodes posted by PizzaFlix on KZfaq.)

Beverly Garland did lots of interesting things in movies and television in the 1950s, including the following movies: D.O.A. (1949 - she plays Miss Foster (billed as "Beverly Campbell")) PROBLEM GIRLS (1953) THE GLASS WEB (1953) BITTER CREEK (1954) THE ROCKET MAN (1954) THE MIAMI STORY (1954) THE DESPERADO (1954) TWO GUNS AND A BADGE (1954) NEW ORLEANS UNCENSORED (1955) THE DESPERATE HOURS (1955 - she plays Miss Swift, Dan Hilliard's secretary (uncredited)) SUDDEN DANGER (1955) THE STEEL JUNGLE (1956) SWAMP WOMEN (1956) GUNSLINGER (1956) NAKED PARADISE (1957 - directed by Roger Corman for American-International Pictures) BADLANDS OF MONTANA (1957) THE JOKER IS WILD (1957) CHICAGO CONFIDENTIAL (1957) THE SAGA OF HEMP BROWN (1958) (If you want to search out the 1950s science-fiction films which she co-starred in, go right ahead.) In 1957-1958, she starred as Police Officer Casey Jones in the syndicated TV series DECOY, which aired 39 episodes that season. Later (before her 74-episode run as Barbara Harper Douglas in the last 3 seasons of MY THREE SONS), she played Ellie Collins in all 28 episodes of THE BING CROSBY SHOW, a sitcom which aired on ABC during the 1964-1965 season. "Night at Lark Cottage" was the second of four "Four Star Playhouse" episodes in which Beverly Garland appeared during the 3rd and 4th seasons of the series. Earlier in the 3rd season, she had played Julie in "Bourbon Street" (Episode 11 - originally aired on 9 December 1954), with Dick Powell, William F. Leicester, Edward Platt, Clarence Muse, Ralph Reeves, and King Donovan (written by Richard Carr; directed by Roy Kellino). In Season 4 of "Four Star Playhouse," she played Maxine in "Touch and Go" (Episode 28 - originally aired on 26 April 1956), with David Niven, Berry Kroeger, Byron Foulger, Ralph Peters, Thomas E. Jackson, Angela Greene, Irene Tedrow, and Joseph V. Perry (written by Harold Swanton; directed by Robert Florey), and she also played Holly in "Second Chance" (Episode 35 - originally aired on 14 June 1956), with David Niven, Berry Kroeger, Lou Krugman, Tristram Coffin, William Swan, Gene Hardy, and Suzi Crandall (written by James Bloodworth; directed by Richard Kinon).
