I get to see herons all the time here on Vancouver Island. Get to photograph and paint them too! I like your technique for painting the feathers. I painted mine on rough paper and it creates a beautiful texture for the feathers.

I was walking on the Comoros Pier today and got a most amazing, close up picture of a Blue Heron standing on a rail. I think I am going to paint him!

Michael, I like your painting style. To me, it is similar to Japanese wood block printing, maybe, 40's style airbrush with cut paper masking. Is airbrush one of your art forms as well? Simple and elegant, and great technique, subtle blends. Before you mentioned the paper being cold pressed, I thought it was hot press paper the way the first colors seemed to be laying down. I appreciate the very loose style watercolor, but much prefer a more controlled approach. Keep up the great work.

Thanks David. Watercolor is really the only artistic outlet I have. I like painting the things I'm familiar with. I can totally see how it is reminiscent of cut paper. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
