This is absolutely genius 1. The anxiety produced by the music when approached by a customer + helping them to right shelf 2. The way the products change names to ominous messages of losing hope/wasting time 3. The repetitive music 4. The store rooms being safe havens/the doors being loud and scary 5. The threat of the manager 6. The dreary colours and empty feeling Anyone who knows the be misfortune of working retail can definitely relate

It just got “worse” because there was a phase where the only people going out frequently were the most callous, selfish, and entitled assholes of the bunch. At least that’s what it was like from my food service perspective. Most of the reasonable people were staying home earlier on while the shitbag customers became more concentrated by this pandemic. I put in my resignation lately because it’s been several months, I’m high risk, customers are caring less and less each day about my wellbeing, and management still doesn’t even encourage masks in the cafe, let alone enforce the city mandate .

I love the visual style in this. While it's not exactly accurate to a PS1 look from a technical standpoint, it takes the best aspects of it, almost like how actual developers would try to push the PS1 to its very limits at the time. Gives it that look on 'how you remember it back then' feel. Would rather see this approach in retro graphics compared to games when they just try to make it look old to hide the fact they lack an actual art style.

@Jvizzlezz4 жыл бұрын
the game would be more accurate if so many people started taking control of your screen and saying EXCUUUUUUSE MEEEEE that the game started glitching out and becoming nonfunctional. added points if customers would sometimes randomly follow you into staff rooms anyway because they can't read or don't give a shit. final level could include people asking for items that your store literally doesn't have, and you get fired if you can't give it to them anyway. also, added horror, like others have said, make it so the level's layout completely changes every single time you play it, or sometimes even in the middle of the level, because that's a little bit more accurate to what real life retail was like too

@@SetsuneW Not necessarily. I worked retail for six years and was making a pretty good wage for the work I did. It was demeaning, soul-crushing work, but as long as I was being frugal and didn't drink my paycheck away I could be making bank. EDIT: I should clarify, I deliberately took the highest paying hourly wage I could when I started the job, as an overnight customer support manager. It was mostly dealing with angry customers, wrangling homeless paintheads, and frantically trying to return all the misplaced merchandise in the store to its proper place. I was expected to handle the end of day sales as well. I would frequently walk upwards of 7 miles a night around the store, and would usually end up having to stay late in the mornings to finish my work (and since our chain didn't want to pay it's employees overtime, that meant I would have to take longer lunches on my next night and subsequently lose that much more time I had to work.) It was basically a no-win business strategy designed to maximize the salaried managers annual bonus, while the hourly associates were viewed as expendable. I decided to quit after six years and find work that was less demeaning.
