Everything you've ever wanted to known about magic swords - Lightbringer, Dawn, the last hero's dragonsteel, sure, but have you heard of Stormbringer and Mournblade? Anguirel, Anglachel, Narsil, and Gurthang? We'll place the Azor Ahai legend in some literary context to help us understand how these legends of the Long Night help us understand the cause of the Long Night... because that's wha the 5-part Nightbringer series is here to do.

I wonder whether the four King-like figures with pale swords are brothers, and the one with amethyst eyes (purple) is a common ancestor of both house Dayne and Targaryen. There's a myth called "Alexandria's Genesis" which states that a genetic mutation changes eye colour to purple, and that this originated in Egypt following flashing in the sky. These individuals are supposed to be near perfect. Tormaline eyes (usually a redish colour) also has a deeper meaning in this story - the power of greensight/foresight.

I see lots of people giving support and praise for the series in a general sense, but I just want to add that I am really enjoying the (relatively) shorter videos. Makes it easy to keep up with, easier to watch at my pace, while still feeling like I’m getting plenty of info. It’s tightly edited, which I like too - not too much fluff (though the jokes are appreciated!). Plus, 20ish minutes is perfect for dinner-time viewing. Would love to see more in this style if it’s not too taxing! Great series, keep it up!

I've always wondered why the GEotD had a base in Oldtown on the westcoast of Westeros, but I only now realized that if they came pre-Long Night, the Arm of Dorne would still be whole, and thus they had to land on the westcoast (can't land a ship in Dorne. Duh!

Sorry for looking at this so much from a Danish pov -but the sword Narsil(red and white sword) and Dawn falling from the heavens reminds me so much of the myth of the Danish flag, White(swordlike) cross on a field of crimson Red. The flag also fell from heaven(myth) doing a great battle- and the flag(myth) became a rallying point for the danish crusaders under King Valdemar the Doom who crushed the Estland wildlings and their Old Gods(real world) Sometimes I can't say if GRRM intentionally mimics scandinavien late medieval history and sometimes I'm sure of it(like the stone vikings in the crypt with swords across their laps- that's 1:1 Ogiar the Dane in Kronborg Castle)- but I don't know about the banner falling from heavens... maybe Anyway, thanks for BRILLIANT content : )

So what I’ve noticed is that he tends to pick up on confluences and give them honor. Like he may have started with the Dunedain / Dayne thing, or perhaps the Dane Whitman guy from marvel, and then he’ll pull in anything else that fits, so the Danish flag symbol and myth makes sense right? Kinda fits right in there.

Azor Ahai would have been sent to Westeros by the then Great Emperor, so having Lightbringer remain wouldn't have been a big surprise, given Azor Ahai would have been a prince, but not close enough in line for the throne that his death would cause succession issues. Yeah it’s a clue about the blood of the dragon potentially. Lemur means ghost or spirit, so he’s implying that Valyrian spirits go inside animals... whose skins are collected... in other words the Dragonbond is created in part by getting a dead Valyrian spirit into a dragon. Some think that’s how you start it, then the descendants of the Valyrian ghost inside the dragon can bond with it, because they share blood. The blood of the dragon

Hey looking at the Danes moving east to the west - I noted something of interest concerning Geography. In a straight line by the sea, you would travel by boat from Assaii -> Valeria -> the home of the Danes. So let us assume that the Ancestor of the Dane went by sea like Odysseus or Aeneas - he could have stopped over at ancient Valeria for some time, he could have married / loved the founder-woman of Valeria, or founded Valeria FIRST.... Then proceeded onwards towards the battle with the others. Instead of returning to his lover / kingdom in Valeria, he might have stayed in the home of the Danes.

What do you make of the lack of dragons in both the stories about the Great Empire and the Long Night? Personally, I think there was an original dragonpocalypse with another long night, after which the dragons died out / were hunted down. Since there are old ruins in Sothoryos and we know almost nothing about it, I'd say it happened there with Leng being a sort of remnant of that civilization the way Valyria was founded by people from the Great Empire. Asshai may have been built by dragonlords, but they would have lost their dragons like the Targaryens did after them.

Timely discussion, maybe; but my best guess is that dragons are on a cicada-like cycle. ?tiny worms in Weirwood leaves?, xeno-worms in creatures, cocoons (eggs), wyverns, dragon, leviathans , Dune worm. Between dragon infighting, humans hunting them, and general ordinary dangers; keeps populations down.

11:04 - as a Tolkien fan, I am impressed you draw from it in a George video(as George also draws from Tolkien) and I am in laughter at how you apologise for saying the names wrong and explain its Quenya(which you hilariously call Kenya)

Hahaha yes I’m a fan of LOTR, but not in deep like I am with ASOIAF. And I’ve read all of it (as opposed to heard people talking about it and saying the names), so I don’t know the official pronunciations for anything in the Silmarillion

If Eldric Shadowchaser is the last hero, what is in your opinion the role of House Stark. They seem very related to the long night?

Check out Dawn is the Original videos (there are 2) and also GEOTD: Westeros. I think the last hero is tied to Stark and Dayne both, though how it works exactly is up for speculation. I think AA became NK, and he’s the Dayne / dragon blood person, while NQ was a Stark. The last hero may have been their child. This would parallel Rhaegar, Lyanna, and Jon very tightly.

@@DavidLightbringer but if the last hero is son of nq that means last hero is(supposed to be) the other, and i think that doesnt make much sense. Maybe last hero was a AA's son before he became nk or he is just his stark relative(since brandon the breaker is the one who crushed nk). Would love to hear your opinion. also if nk is AA, and AA is dayne, was old nan wrong? I mean word are winds so chances are pretty good.

That was soo good! I love all the hints and connections of the GEotD in the ancient Westeros. It still bugs me how this Azor Ahai guy was both a hero in the East and Elric Shadowchaser in Westeros - did he fight Others and went back to Essos to be known there?

@@DavidLightbringer seems logical, and he would be merged with Eldric through propaganda/mist of history. Thanks for the answer!

yeah I want it to be Ice as well. I joked that Ned's ancestor went to valyria to buy a sword and the newbie on register accidentally sold him Lightbringer form the display case. He was tortured and executed but no take-backsies ya know

I'd like to add one minor detail about Narsil. When it was reforged it was also renamed Anduril Flame of the West. Another nod to Dragons and fire.

So we've got two main azor ahai-ish characters, Dany and Jon. And two main heroes from the last long night, Azor Ahai from Ashai, and the Last Hero from Westeros (probably a Dayne). And we have two magic walls in these respective regions that keep some evil out on the other side (The wall and the Five Forts). The lands north of the wall are always associated with cold and ice, and it seems like the grey wastes are more of a barren desert. Instead of Azor Ahai and the Last hero being the same person, they were two different people, with Dany being Azor Ahai reborn and Jon being The Last Hero reborn? If the Last Hero is also the Nights King, then all the theories of Jon ending up being a Nights King type figure by the end, could make sense. Dawn and Lightbringer could be two different swords used by the two heroes in their respective wars.
