Long ago network news was thought to be an important part of our democracy. So important that news broadcasts were run at a loss, other programming made up the deficit. Then it was decided that each news broadcast had to pay for itself. Out went journalistic accuracy and integrity, in came broadcasting that invoked emotions, created viewers and led to advertisements that provided revenue and above all profits. Didn’t know that factual and accurate information, necessary for a well functioning democracy, could be bought so cheaply.

Yes you are correct in this and as a republican I was shocked that this all changed under the Regan Administration. The law was called Fairness Doctrine of the United States FCC. I have been on X requesting that it be made law again as news seems to be a place of propaganda. It used to be news stations had to allow for all sides of the argument or equal reporting time for the opposing party to present its side or facts from there the viewer could come to his own opinion based on all sides of the story now it does not matter what channel you go to it all feels slanted. Now it's basically watchers choice on pick your propaganda for the nightly news. I try to mix it up draw a conclusion afterwards. Please spread the word on bringing back Fairness Doctrine of the United States FCC if this is something you would like to see again.

It was actually a softball question, or what do firefighters call it... a "back burn" or "back fire"? Take away the fuel for the fire. All Biden had to say was "I meant 'focus' at the time, I was speaking off the cuff, and I now regret my careless choice of words." He could have cleanly addressed the issue and had it out of the way, but instead he introduced "crosshairs" and garbled things up worse.
