This week I'm replacing all the rusted brake lines on the car. This is actually a pretty common problem for Boxsters and 911s of this generation and boy did they give me a fight. They are all properly sized on this car so I've had to get creative…

The calliper hard line nut that you had to heat looked like it took a lot of the calliper thread with it when it came out. I would get that thread helli coiled or you risk it popping out when you brake hard.

Cheers Paul. Yeah, came as a bit of a shock. Was lucky it was in the vice and not still on the car.

I have had the same problem with the nut moving and twisting the pipe. Heat it up and shock it with water. Rust cannot shrink like the metal. Came off a treat.

Great Video! You're brave, I think I would have booked it in for that job, but the result looks good.

I have the same flare nut snap-on spanner, for the same reason. Boxsters ready do suffer with rusty nuts and bolts sadly.

I think if I was to be critical I would say you probably could of made the joins for the new pipes a bit longer to hide the unions out the way on the front brake pipes behind the wheel arches. Look forward to the ims video !

Hi Neil, I think the video title should say ‘seized’ not ‘sized’. Loving this new Boxster series though.

Been under my 987 and all pipes are looking crusty. Thinking to replace all with Kunifer. Following this project closely 👍🏻

Awesome, I'm loving these 987 video's, keep up the good work. Out of interest, where do you buy your Porsche parts? also, I like your workshop vice, where is it from?

Thanks Roger, glad you like them. I get Porsche parts from Design911. The vice is from Machine Mart, I think it's the Clark one.

The uk absolutely destroys cars underneath,i just looked at a 03 z4 for a friend in Toulouse which turned out to be from Italy,totally spotless underneath,driveshafts,diff,subframe,suspension and brake lines still look amazing after 200,000 kms.

Thanks Neil for the vid' but are you going to put a turbo on it 'cos it's gonna be slower than a 350Z on the staights... i saw a crazy person put a supercharger on a 964...👍

Maybe. The Boxser is lighter though and should be better around the corners so we'll see.

Were you using MAP gas to heat the rusted parts?
@RoadandRacetv
@RoadandRacetv 5 ай бұрын
yes. why do you ask?

@@RoadandRacetv As a DIY car mechanic, I’ve tried using propane/butane cans in the past, but it didn’t create enough heat on rusty bolts. So I’m going to try MAP gas in future, but haven’t bought the kit yet.

why copper lines instead of steel ones ? steel is better and they look like original ones
@RoadandRacetv
@RoadandRacetv 5 ай бұрын
Steel can rust and it harder to flare. Copper Nickel is easier to flare and does not rust. It is a bit softer though so you have to be careful not to overtighen them.
