The track title says it's a waltz, make it a waltz, dammit !
This arrangement of Nightmarish Waltz came from the combination of three elements : listening Silent Hill songs for the corresponding Pixel Mixers album, me listening again to the "Living Being II" album from Vincent Peirani, which I absolutely love (go give it a listen ! His music is incredible • Vincent Peirani Live -... ), and a weekly arrangement challenge on the 8-bit music theory server (quintet arrangement) which led me to write the lead sheet for this cover.
I got the idea of arranging this piece into a jazz waltz mostly because its title (yeah I know, how original) and wanted to use the unusual instrumentation of Vincent Peirani's Living Being quintet, which really works super well to create a dark jazz ambience which suits really well to Silent Hill's music. I also tried to recreate the tension and crazy dynamics that this album features, going from super soft to super loud in an improvised way, and I'm extremely grateful to the great musicians who helped me record it, they did a fantastic job :)
