You should play Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and 3! Amazing track design, surfaces that actually feel different to drive on, and no unskippable cutscenes/talking garbage that the Dirt series suffers from. I just played them for the first time recently and I'm actually mad that nobody told me about them as a kid. You get the hang of the physics in those games and you feel like a badass.

That was Burnout Paradise that used indicators to tell you where to go. TXR just let you play with them, but they didn't serve any functional purpose, though I only played Zero and Zero One.

Night Runners and Touge Attack are my two most anticipated indie racing games. Both of these games look like they'll fill the hole left behind by the Tokyo Xtreme Racer games (Night Runners for the highway racing and Touge Attack for the canyon battles of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift games). Now all I need is an indie Midnight Club and an indie Burnout game and I'll be all set.

Honestly glad to see someone with something other than universal praise for this game. I thought the interface seemed needlessly confusing. On the other hand, you did seem like your car had pretty minimal upgrades for when you were going against S.K.

you don't need to install parts to sell them, you go over to the storage shelf (the ones in the left hand corner near the roller door) and you can select stored parts and sell straight from there

It's hard not to compare to Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero. It feels like there is no weight, by comparison like almost all the cars in TXR0 feel like blocks so when you hit or get hit it is notable but you are still planted on the ground. Here, it's like only you and the random trucks have weight yet the other racers have God Mode and they can ram into you with no issues.

the problem is that you decided to face sk way too early, and of course the respawn is broken atm, it respawns you facing the wrong side most of the time

The game look awesome so far, but definitely does need a bit more polish. Right now the demo looks unintuitive since it lacks tutorials, has some silly mistakes, notably in the customization department which requires parts to be installed to be sold (it should be the other way around, so I'm suspecting this is really just an oversight), engines can sound a bit meatier, and the world needs a bit more detail as well as better visibility. It could definitely also use a minimap like pretty much all racers do, as far as I can see it uses an arrow which points in the direction you're supposed to go, but that dramatically reduces its usefulness since it's less explicit than a map and can confuse the player more easily and it's also too dark (I imagine it's easy to take the wrong road at high speed, which is a problem since restarts don't seem to be infinite as they literally cost money and the player might run out of that eventually). No point in bringing up the weird collision physics and clipping issues because this aspect of the game is obviously unfinished in the demo and needs a lot more work. Otherwise, it's definitely quite promising, and it will undeniably be a breath of fresh air when it drops since we've not had a good highway racer in ages, that genre effectively died with the TXR series. But it needs more work, especially when it comes to accessibility and QoL features.

you dont need to install parts to sell them, you just need to go in the customisation feature in the garage and you can sell it from there, the button is still there, you are previewing the part in your car and not installing them again.

Also does kind of have a minimap of sorts mapped to the DPad I think, but its not really that great to use. The biggest issue I have with this game is that getting out ahead of opponents seems to break their AI, in most of my races, they'd DNF for some reason (they'd essentially just start cruising at traffic speeds again, I once did an entire loop around and found this out by mistake because navigating is kinda shit currently).

@@prod.byjoker3778 I see. Thanks for the explanation, I drew some incorrect conclusions from Kuru's footage and his commentary. That being said, yeah, the game definitely shows promise, but in its current state it noticeably lacks polish in some key areas, especially those revolving around accessibility and ease of use. The AI is a curious thing since this applies to the footage from the developer's channel as well, if I remember correctly, sometimes when he pulled away from the opponent, the event would end up with a DNF. I wonder if there isn't a check set in place that prompts the AI to simply give up if the player is too far.

@@proletarianrise10 its possible, but I hope it gets fixed in later patches because it makes the events pretty boring after seeing the signal bar hit a disconnect while in first place. Plus this game would heavily benefit from a less Underground 2 style navigation system, where the arrow always points toward the checkpoint and not to the route you need to take.

Hold up, I see now how the AI navigation works, they always try to drive toward the point the arrow points, so if you pass, the AI will attempt to drive through a wall to get to the next checkpoint, pathing needs to be fixed for AI and for navigation.

The dev does NOT want to release the esrly access for free lmao already 2 months behind what was originally promised. Just to clarify, I'm not upset that the demo hasn't been dropped for free yet. I'm upset that the developer said it would release in 2023, a couple of weeks after the paid version. It is now February, and no word from Jem. Don't make a deadline if you can't meet it.

100% got the same emotions as you did. The boss fight was dogshit, SuckKing was like on the rails and way to fast. The bossfight was forced too The menus are meh, the tuning is cool. The fact that there is GPS but it just puts a marker and not a route to the destination is dumb. The fast trevel is also shit. Ran the prologue to the end and still dont know the full map, only races. And thats after playing on multiple Shuto maps in diff games. So yeah, good game but still needs work, cant wait for the final product

It’s basically a demo and tells you that before u even play that it needs polish dosnt take away how much potential this game has the reason this game is so hype is cause we haven’t got a Highway racing game of this degree in over a decade this game is a love letter to all the fans of Maximum tune , Wangan Midnight and Tokyo Extreme racer not to mention the car customization and gameplay loop are pretty addicting
