Weathering an armored vehicle in dry desert environment is actually very easy and straightforward! A couple of enamel dust washes and some dark grime stains and we're done!

Hey uhh can you or do you have a video on mixing paints?.. i have this mech i built but it has seam lines everywhere so i use vellayo putty to cover the caps so i can paint over it but i cant quite get the nechs base colour..despite on the guide it has like this- 60% of paint A 30% of paint B 14% of paint C 4% of paint D As an example^ obviously the paints have proper names lol. But ive just been starting out in modelling and not being able to get the right colour of greenish gray has just destroyed my motivation lol..i could just do my own colour but i want it to be anime accurate😅

Another great one! While I´m just speechless of your skills, I want to make a few comments based on observations I made in North Africa including Tunisia. I went there for holidays with my 4x4 car and saw effects on it as well as on equipment left behind by oil companys, such as abandoned caterpillars and other things: 1.: Dust collects in the seamlines of vehicles very quickly, and it accumulates to a point that there is no shadow of the seamlines anymore. So if the colour of the dust is lighter than the base colour of the vehicle, it makes those seam lines look lighter. So the opposite of what we usually do with dark washes. A very light tone, sth 80% white and 20% iraqi-sand mix would fit as a wash. This happens not only in sandy desert conditions but in other very dry places too, i.e southern Hungary during summer if you drive on dusty roads for some time. 2.: Everything that is in moving motion with sand will get polished to the bare metal very quickly. This happend to the rims of my car in Tunisia. So I would think the outer surface of the tracks, a major part of their inner surface, and maybe even the road wheels of a tank. Frequent sand storms can even polish a whole vehicle. 3.: You did right in aplying rust. Rust forms from dew wich falls in the desert because of rather extreme temperature offsets. This means rust would mainly form on horizontal surfaces and barely on vertical ones.

Uncle Night has said many times that figures aren't his thing, but I think he can do for figures what he does for armor. Getting skin and fabric and leather and such believable especially in smaller scales is a far greater challenge, I agree, but all it takes is practice, determination and more practice. Come on, he's doing diorama vignettes- give him some time and he'll be doing figures with believable sweat on them.

Bit random, but I have figured out why on the exhaust the middle and top metal strips are closer together and the bottom and middle. For the top and bottom strips you have put them below the guide marker, but for the middle it is above the marker. Random but it makes sense why they aren't an equal distance. Anyway good job, and have fun with the diorama.

I'm thinking that the scale size of that Tunisian sand that you used on the model looks more like chicken egg size gravel (in that scale) rather than the real "sand/dust" that would accumulate on an North African desert tank. Maybe something more like a fine dirt colored powder would look more "in scale". Not meant as an insult, just an observation. Thanks for the video.
@NightShiftScaleModels
@NightShiftScaleModels 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was meant to represent random accumulations of loose dirt, not sand per se. Photos from Tunisia show a wide variety of earth ranging from sand, brown dirt and lots of loose rocks.For actual in scale sand I'd most likely go with some of those 0.25mm stones I used on the Syrian vignette.
