Hey guys, while I was narrating this video I forgot to mention that this technique works for both bullet holes and shrapnel damage. That Tiger 1 reference photo is clearly a shrapnel hole :) So it depends on what you wanna create, but the method is always the same. Also, these are just the most basic, straightforward and well known techniques that I've been working with over the years. The first method could be used on airplanes too, but for some reason you don't see many fighter plane models with battle damage.

I can remember making the holes with a hot needle, but it was 45 years ago - I think it's reassuring to see that I'm not the only one to make this beginner mistake. I'm glad that Plasmo nudges the standard higher, but it's REALLY cool that you call some techniques overkill. Like another video of yours where you say that you don't use dry pigments for weathering washes. The point is to get all of the information out there so we can use whatever methods we want. Of course, trying to emulate damage in photo evidence from actual tanks seems to be the best approach; but not all of us have the ability to do this. Fortune passes everywhere.

Bullet holes are usually oval or round. Shrapnel holes can be any shape. Just a stupid comment to an awesome video. 👍😉

Love your description of the technique you are clear and thoughtful. I would like to ask about fenders. In many photos of tanks in the field the fenders are damaged. The parade ground versions are of course pristine, but I would think in the field they would take a beating.

Do you have any footage of that Trumpeter JS-7 because that is an incredible model you’ve made, very interested in how you managed to get the rust, dirt, and snow weathering. Also the camouflage is incredible with small amounts of detail on how the paint runs off after time.

For me I dont have such tools so...it kinda suck...however I heat up a metal object with a round end and impress against the point where I want. Or I use my hobby knife to "drill" a hole.

If you poke the hole/micro drill through the plastic first then use the Dremel to thin it out it doesn't look as good? That is the way I was taught, I've never done it the other way around as you show in the video.

I haven't figure out how to create a proper looking HEAT shell impact. I'm working on a Tamiya T-72M1, and I want to make a HEAT impact on the turret. But, haven't found a tutorial or a method that looks all that great yet.
