A model painted with the hairspray chipping method is an excellent canvas for various oil paint and rust techniques, and it would be foolish of me not to use that to the maximum potential. But hey, it's a French tank, so it needs to look subtle!

Heres an oily duck fun fact: The mallard duck's outer feathers are waterproof, thanks to oil that's secreted from a gland near the tail.

At 01:35 the clear yellow: You CAN replicate that. Mix a drop or two of yellow food coloring into a teaspoon of clear nail polish. You may need to experiment to get the yellow you want. But I was able to make stained glass windows for a 15mm scale church with this method. I like your channel, thanx.

Not gonna lie, early-war French tanks are actually some of my favourites, and you're doing a great job with this! I always loved the Somua, has a very nice "jelly mould" shape. Also, two suggestions for future projects: 1: A Matilda II in that famous camo pattern whose name escapes me (the stripes of tan, grey and pastel blue). 2: Something completely out of left field, a Warhammer 40,000 tank of some form. I'd be interested to see how you handled a deliberately fantastical and unrealistic subject such as, say, a Leman Russ with your painting and modelling skills.

This build has been messing with my head a little: the large cast parts really create a texture that looks like you've applied the paint too thickly. Add to that the bright camo colours and it almost looks like a bad paint job than something intentional. That said, this latest episode has really toned it down with the oils. I wonder if it would have been better to use a subtler cast texture since the parts are so large? In my opinion, the problem colour is really that duck-egg blue. It's so light that the texture really shows up
@NightShiftScaleModels
@NightShiftScaleModels 3 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting observation. I reworked the original texture which was in the kit following photos of the Aberdeen tank. Lots of casting imperfections and gouges in the metal, etc. The Tamiya texture is more like a coarse grain which probably makes any paint job really weird. At the end of the day, this tank is simply cursed and I'm glad it'll be a very short series :)

This is a heck of a challenge and you're doing an amazing job. That brown stripe at the bottom of the tank that is clearly authentic and original looks even in the photographs like a bad model paint job. So I guess the irony is you recreated it so well it looks like.. a bad model paint job just like the real thing. It takes a lot of skill to make something look this bad because in this case bad is good.

It reminds me of the mystery machine from scooby doo, maybe once it's darkened down with the weathering it'll look amazing as usual! It does look awesome the fine line of the colours maybe to bright for French colours the brown's to red the greens to lime the French artillery grey passes think that was your tamiya sky you could probably pass for the British silver Grey on the counter scheme too!

Hi Uncle N.S. Great work as always. I wanted to comment on the headlight reflector. Now, I don't know Jack about early French tanks, but on American cars from the same era, the reflectors are always silver plated, not chrome. I've restored several mid '30's Studebakers and have had to silver plate the reflectors on all of them. Not cheap! The chrome does not have the same candle power, which is why silver was the standard. Not that I've ever driven them at night! And, of course at 35th scale, what possible difference in color could be achieved? (If it is achievable, you're the man to do it) CHEERS!
