Live is always the way to go with NightWish for the energy and fun that they put into their performances,the studio stuff is good but it’s live where they shine.

I was only introduced to Nightwish a year ago with Floor singing Storytime at Wacken 2013. The band and the music was crazy but Floor just totally reeled me in out of nowhere. My everyday life has never been the same after that. And I just love this crazy journey 💥💥💥💥

Nightwish is a very VISUAL band. I get more "feeling" of the songs seeing how they look when they are performing. The numbers of times I have watched this video, and I will still find something new that makes me smile. Like the exchange at the end of this song between Floor and Tuomas. "Conquering the darkest places"....standing with Tuomas, knowing the next song is Poet And The Pendulum, the most soul exposing song Tuomas has written, in my opinion.

My favorite Nightwish song is whichever one I'm listening to at the moment! They are all masterpieces. Tuomas is a composing genius and all six are musical masterminds. 'Nuff said!

A good music video would be “The Islander.” You could do it back-to-back with their live performance of the same song at Tampere.

You're absolutely right D. You feel like they are your friends and they seem so close to each other. That homely feeling! Not like band members doing their job, but like a family members having fun. As you noticed on Floor's little videos on her channel, she really is that lovely, kind and down-to-earth type of a person. Not at all like some world famous distant rock star. And she radiates that same warmth on stage. You just feel the urge to be her friend.

Another lovely reaction. Don't worry about talking to long. The both of you interacting is a big part of the fun. Listening to studio albums can be tricky because many of the songs from the live shows were recorded by the previous singers. I love how Tuomas calls out to other songs in his lyrics. In this one the "We Were Here" line is also used in the Greatest Show on Earth and "Building a Waldon of my own" is a callout to the song My Walden from the same album (also worth reacting to). For Tarja songs I love Sleeping Sun, The Siren, and of course Nemo and I wish I had an Angel. Phantom of the Opera is great but Marko totally steals the show so IMO there are better songs to showcase her voice. For Annette, Amaranthe music video and Meadows of Heaven are favorites. Annette is the exception to the rule for listening to Nightwish live. Her music videos and studio recordings are usually the best performances. Slow Love Slow live at Montreaux is her best live perfromance and quite good.

Uplifting. Elan and Alpenglow are, to me, Tuomas’ gifts to Floor to not just tell a story but to bring out and out joy to the listener. You say the live performances of Nightwish are ‘homely’. Exactly, they come across as a family having fun, and that fun just rubs off on everyone. And if the whole group’s performance to that point is not electric, that key change just sends it into orbit.

It is a match made in Heaven of Floor and Nightwish and at the Wacken 2013 concert every song was written for previous two singers( Tarja and Anette) and Floor nails them all. And Troy played two more instruments, bouzouki and whistle in this song.

Absolutely love watching you two react to one of my favourite bands! Your take on what you're watching and listening to is so heartfelt and genuine. As for the first singer, Tarja, I personally would recommend a non - Nightwish song - 'Phantom of the Opera' performed at their 'End of an Era' concert. She and Marko are totally on fire 🔥 with this one. Floor took part in a Dutch TV show called 'Beste Zangers' back in 2019 where she also performed 'Phantom' with a very well respected Dutch singer (Henk Poorte) who has played the Phantom for many years - if you want a spine tingling thrill - go for this one too!! You 2 make me so happy! Always nice to see a new reaction from you. I have 2 suggestions...with a bit of info... in this song, you hear Floor sing, "building a Walden of my own"... Walden, is of course, a pond in Massachusetts made famous when Henry David Thoreau stayed in a cabin there and wrote the poem by the same name, which inspired Tuomas to write the song My Walden (see this live at Wembley). To find one's own Walden, is to find that place, whether a physical location or a state of mind that you feel at one with nature, and at peace. Also from the Wembley show, you will enjoy Elan. There is one original video I recommend, Amaranth. This is Nightwish's most commercially successful song, sung by their 2nd vocalist, Anette Olzen...who simply is not as strong a live singer as Tarja or Floor. All of these songs are very positive and you will enjoy them! Just in case you wanted to know, Wacken is pronounced VAW-KEHN, in Germany.

Stay with Live whenever possible - just stirs the emotions, viewing their reactions, and how they portray the music, tell a story with their gestures and dance.

Also, and I don't want to spoil any surprises, but you'll at some point encounter the song that immediately follows Alpenglow in the Wembley setlist. Nightwish rendition of "The PHANTOM of the OPERA" (End of an Era DVD 2005) is a good one with Tarja, and Marko as the scary Phantom, on vocals. Tarja's vocal style is very operatic on most songs, so it fits in with a song like this. But it fits in with heavy songs as well. "SLAYING the DREAMER" from the same concert is a fine example of that. (Nightwish performed 'Slaying the Dreamer' with Floor in Buenos Aires 2018. I love both versions.)

If you want to see Tarja, I would go with a song from the 2005 End of an Era show. Phantom of the Opera, Wishmaster, The Siren, Planet Hell. For Anette, recommend the music videos for Amaranth or Bye Bye Beautiful. (not many good live videos with her)

Nightwish music just puts a smile on your face and ours as well. They have as much fun performing their music as we do watching and hearing it. Tarja was the first singer. She has a unique, darker tone in her voice. Sleeping Sun, the original very old version, is unbelievably beautiful. She also makes huge Phantom of the Opera duet with Marko in End of an Era concert in Helsinki, I believe it was 2005

MerchantOfAlba, I don't think you guys ever thought that a heavy metal band could be so united. They love playing together and have fantastic chemistry between them when they're on stage. They often say that they are like brothers 💖🤘 Btw. Let me tell you something about that GIG. The Drumer (Kai Hahto) it's not the same that played in Wacken Open Air 2013. That you reacted to Ghost Love Score and Storytime. In that Wacken show the drumer was Jukka Nevalainen (he must quit playing live due to his Insomnia problems and he asks his friend Kai Hahto if he can join the band in 2014).

With Annette, there is really one song she is famous for with Nightwish, it is not a live video, called "Meadows of Heaven". Tuomas's dedication to childhood lost and gone by. Best to do one with onscreen lyrics, couple of really nice ones interlaced with landscapes, etc.

The one thing that impresses me the most about this song (and you missed it) is the two very long, soft lines Floor sings right after the solos, she sings in one breath each. That's incredibly hard to do and she does it perfectly. Unfortunately, you stopped the video at that point and didn't rewind to hear it all.

Trust your intuition Dominika.. stick with live (Wacken, Wembley, Tampere, Buenos Aires). Nightwish is way better that way. Gonna see Floor & her brothers in metal within two days at Pinkpop over here in Dutchieland, yay! A good Original Video - Elan. The other one I would recommend would be the Islander...but the Islander is done much better in the Tampere Version - trust the Army. If you want to try a studio recording instead of a live version, and stick with one from Floor's time in the band, i highly recommend the official video for "Elan". Brilliant and beautiful video.

You are right, the live videos are almost all better than the studio versions. One exception IMHO is the video for „Shoemaker“. There will be differing opinions, but for this song I recommend you check out the official lyrics video!

Best studio version I would recommend is Meadows of Heaven and there's a really nice fan made video for it. Floor has never sang it live and the studio version is by the 2nd singer Anette, but the vocals are excellent on it. It's an excellent song that actually even has some gospel singing in the end, another excellent proof of Tuomas' versatility.

This is early on the album and there is an allusion to the final track, The Greatest Show on Earth - "We Were Here" occurs 4 times in that song too. Tuomas frequently references other songs. Seek out, if you haven't seen it, Floor visiting somewhere recently and being given the phone book, whereupon she sings the letter A entries... Wacken is nearer to Vah-kun

I think that with Anette you should check "Scaretale"-suits for halloween..-And with Tarja, I honestly think there are plenty but Nightwish version of "The Phantom Of The Opera" kind of displays few things and Marko has great and important role too. All of Nightwish Live stuff is better than most other bands studio songs. You get a great song and a show at the same time! If you want to check out a music video, try "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (Floor is a real temptress at the beginning of it, imo) or "Elan". Most are very well done videos.

I would recommend you to listen to two songs to start knowing Tarja: The Phantom Of the Opera, live from End of An Era concert, and, as others will probably recommend, Wishmaster, also from End of An Era concert. I personally don't like Wishmaster too much, but you might like it. And yes, Tarja was the singer of the song Nemo, which was a huge success on its days and played on MTV :) About researching about some songs, maybe you're talking about The Poet and the Pendulum. This is a song heavily based on Tuomas' experiences during Tarja's exit from the band and has a big story behind it. Usually, in my opinion, knowing what happened helps you to get into the context of the song and makes the experience much better, but of course you can react to the song without any research. If you want to know what to research, just tell us in one of the reactions. I personally have the basic information and I would gladly share it, without spoiling anything that would ruin your reactions of the music. Nightwish is definitely a live band. Nothing wrong with the studio versions but you miss exactly the things you mentioned. Also, keep in mind Floor has only been their singer since 2012, so many of the songs you’ve watched were originally recorded with one of the two previous singers. Again, nothing wrong with them, but those original versions will sound VERY different. Another song you might like, which has a similar feel to this, is My Walden…live at Tampere or live at Wembley…both versions are good. I think you’ll both enjoy it. Another one is The Islander, live at Tampere. You’ll love that one.

If you want to stick to live, my choices for Annette would be Slow Love Slow live at Montreux Jazz Festival, and Scaretale Official Live. Two very different moods but both good songs. For Tarja there are way more, but definitely Phantom of the Opera Official Live, and maybe Sleeping Sun live or Nemo live (both songs where I prefer her to Floor).

My favorite song by the original vocalist is Ever Dream (End of an Era concert Helsinki), Creek Mary's Blood (the same concert) and Swanheart (by a very young Nightwish, live version from Wishes to Eternity concert in Tampere). For Swanheart there is a video with the boys playing Hans Zimmer before the actual song kzfaq.info/get/bejne/prlggrh2s6uzop8.html. Swanheart is in my top five NW songs. Tarja also does a beautiful job with The Beauty of The Beast in Amsterdam, but the video quality is not the best.
