Hey everyone, after reading the comments I realized I left something out of this reaction. Even though there are some songs I prefer Tarja on, and some I prefer Floor on ( and this also includes Anette), I am extremely happy that we have all this variety on what are all ultimately incredible Nightwish songs. I am glad that we can all have a preferred version or that we can even just enjoy them equally. Never get offended at another persons preference, we all have reasons for why we like what we like, but we can all agree on how lucky we are that this all exists in the first place. Having said that, continue your comments, I love hearing your opinions as well :-) ❤✊🤘

Floor tells a story. Not only singing words but she knows what she is singing about. ;-)

When I hear Floor singing I feel the heart of the composer. Tarja never reached that.

Sistah is right, Nightwish does sound different in every song, they re-invent themselves constantly and that is what I love about them.

she was delicate and ethereal and breathy in the beginning, and built it towards the climax. she belted like a champ, despite being sick. i had a similar reaction when Floor does "Stargazers" all in her head voice. her genius is her agility with her tone and her command of dynamics, to convey any emotion the song calls for. her process for arranging her vocals, in consultation with Tuomas and the others, is a topic i would love to hear her expand upon.

Because Floor is not second Tarja. She is one and only Floor Jansen. I became a Nightwish fan because of her. She makes every song alive, brings emotions!

I feel that Floor makes every song she sings her own and in my opinion I don't think it is an accident. Even if it a song you have heard before it really makes you sit back and take note of every beautiful moment.

I think the reason I prefer this version is partly because (for me) Floor’s delicate approach to the first part of the song, and then the belting at the end seems a more emotional approach to what is a very emotional song, but thinking about it, it’s mostly because I like the new arrangement and the prominence of Troy in this version-I yield to no one in appreciation of what Floor has brought to Nightwish but I think the increasing role of Troy on the Decades tour and now on Human :||: Nature has also been hugely important in Nightwish continuing to evolve...He’s Troymendous 😆. All that said, I’m obviously not going to argue with anyone who prefers the original, that’s ace too...

Three words :The amazing Floor .

Floor besides completing Nightwish, she also completed most of his songs, this song is a good example of how it has to be sung, simply superb, this song interpreted by Floor is now complete.

I saw them in Prague during this tour, and I normally don't record or take pictures during performances, but I did record this entire song, because I wanted a memory and this song is so important to me. Anyway, the point is that Floor wasn't sick on the concert I went to, and she was on this one, but there is no difference. Even sick Floor still sings like a beast. I think she even snores in tune, it's absurd. Been following her since the After Forever days, and at the first times I saw her live I was always expecting a few slips or mistakes here and there. Tired voice, distraction... nope, never fails, Bruce Dickinson style.

To me Floor has an insane ability to build up the song by using changes in vocal technique throughout the song. She is an absolute master of emotions and storytelling. This one is a prime example how flowy her changes are. She truly built this one up from beginning to the end. It's so masterfully done it leaves me speechless. She connects with the song emotionally, understands what kind of technique is needed to portray that emotion and then delivers it beautifully. It's not always the biggest belt or the dramatic operatic approach. Here it's more melancholic, which really suits the mood. Floor shows true artistry and deep understanding of emotion with her choices. I do think that some songs profit from Tarja's dark and dramatic voice and this definitely belongs to those along with most slow ballads, but Floor's ability to just sail between techniques, tones and colors is unbelievable.

Floor studied singing full time for about six years. In songs like this one, her theater classes really become useful. I don't want to make this a vs, but Tarja only had (or only used) an operatic voice. Floor uses much more colors and textures to express emotion, and it works for me.

I really love how Floor sings soft in the beginning, to match the emotions, and even her body language throught the song, and then she just explodes in the end, that ending it's just pure epicness! And we all knowthat it's all because of Tuomas, but Floor, for me just made this masterpiece just more epic and beautiful! Just my opinion! Thank you for the reaction!! Sistah, i fell you, i cried with you!!

Floor's the bomb....no disrespect to Tarja, because she's an amazing singer in her own right and i'm a fan, but this Dutch Goddess is beyond incredible....

Floor = 100% Versatility. Tarja = 90% Opera. U always know what Tarja is gonna do or sound like before the song starts. Not that she's bad by no means but I'll go with the Versatility thanks!! Floor is what this band needed to go to the next level. And "That" they did!! \m/

When I heard this song live, I cried from the start. It's so emotional.

One of Tuomas most beautiful compositions by far, yes, but no matter how much I love the original I cannot pass this song on how Floor sings it with feelings, emotions, passions for every breath she is taking. Tuomas has in his hands a singer that has no competition what so ever in any singer, not even Tarja.

I thought this wasn’t a comparison? The old catalogue of Nightwish is still around to appreciate. But the Nightwish of today is with Floor! Their latest album is rich and fresh and I look forward to their next masterpiece.

This song is on my top 10 favorite songs of NIghtwish. First time I listened this song from the album with Tarja as the singer, I got my emotions great, she got me . But this one, this version with Floor (it doesn't matter she want to sing it her way, or even got instructed by Tuomas, we all know how versatile she is on singing) it got me in tears. For me this was beautiful. With all due respect and love for Tarja as the original singer, I would love to hug Floor for giving me more feels.

She sang it this way because this is a personal song, about feelings. Operatic, at least from Floor because of the color of her voice and how much power she has, feels epic and grandiose, which is not the best approach because it would make it emotionally unreachable. Personally I love both versions, both are very different but both are touching. This is similar to the choices she made with "Shallow" on Beste Zangers, a song that feels very intimate and personal because of the way she sang it

Can't get enough of Floor doing classical/operatic stuff (i wish Tuomas would let her do it more often), but the way she starts and especially ends this song is epic. The power at the end is just wow.

From the beginning to the end of the song pure emotions. The way she builds it up with the soft voice first and then the belting at the end is absolute perfect vocal artistry. The way Floor stands with the fist in the air is such an epic strong picture. Masterpiece. Well, Floor was sick during this concert but I don't think that being sick is why she didn't sing in a more operatic way. She sings the songs with the vocal style she thinks they deserve/fit best (at least she said so in an interview or two). Tbh, I didn't even like this song before I heard Floor do it. Tarja's version just didn't (and still doesn't) fit with me. But of course, everyone's entitled to their own opinions and preferences. Seeing a Nightwish reaction from you guys always brightens my day! Stay safe! (Btw, still waiting for that Beste Zangers episode 4 reaction )

This is also one of my favourite Tarja songs, and at first, it felt a bit strange hearing this sung more contemporary. But after only a few listens with Floor, I realized how much more emotion there was in her vocal performance. The brighter tone makes the vocals feel far more raw.

As a vocalist myself, I know that when you cover a song you want to respect the original version of that song but at the same time the singer should be free to interpret and deliver the song in their own way. I must confess I did not like this song very much until I heard this live performance and it literally brought me to tears and it's hugely due to Floor's interpretation of the lyrics.

Floor is a storyteller with her voice and let you feel emotions. Although I recognize Tarja's talent, she was never as storytelling. That's one of the reasons I like the Floor version's of most songs better.... She varies in tone and type of voice, Tarja sounded always the same.. very operatic.... for me quite boring, despite the beautiful songwriting of Tuomas. I once heared Floor in an interview saying that she is not copying Tarja, but tries to make the songs her own and I think she does that very well

Minute 9:30. The song is about to start and I'm already have an emotional knot and I'm crying. And I'm so familiar with Floor's version that I only know I just end up in a mess of tears. Lemme grab a tissue before continuing 😓 For me the technique used by Floor here makes it sound more powerful and raw so that the feelings are more emotional for me. In an operatic registry this song sounds so beautiful. Divine. But the feeling is not as raw and true, but like purify by the type of style that I struggle to feeling it. Other than recognizing it as a beautiful song

We all know Floor can sing in an operatic style. I enjoy this version so much more. She also sings without an accent, which I find less distracting. Just a personal taste for me. Loved the reaction.

This guitar solo is a clear sign that there's no need to do so much to convey a message...it was simple, yet extremely profound!!!

I had heard that Floor was unwell during this concert with a cold, not that you could really tell lol. In my opinion, the reason she may have decided to not do this in an operatic style, is because it's very hard to transmit gut wrenching emotion while singing in an operatic style and this song deserves to have all the emotion wrung out of the audience. By doing it in a lower chest register and then ending with that high belting style it elevates the song to new emotional heights. Operatic singing can sometimes feel a bit cold and emotionless. It's more about the technique and the fullness of voice rather than emotion. This of course is just my opinion and others may totally disagree. I actually prefer Floor's version to Tarja's but then I actually prefer Floor as a singer to Tarja because of the emotion she puts into songs. I honestly believe that Tarja is a more technical singer with a fuller sounding operatic voice but she did sometimes leave me feeling cold, whereas Floor has reduced me to tears with the emotion she pours into her singing. It's all about personal preference.

It’s not a competition so there’s no best singer, however there is a ‘best fit’ and that would be Floor.

One of the biggest reasons I prefer Floor is her great articulation. You can understand what she is singing most of the time. Unless you know the lyrics before hand, opera is very difficult to understand the words. It is very powerful but to me loses an emotional connection because I don't know what they are singing. It is also harder to get across specific emotions with opera because it's so strict in its style to me.

Wolfkain - I don't think doing it in a more classical style would have given the same emotion. This has a warmth and longing Tarja - for all her undoubted skill - couldn't muster. This has a heart-rending quality that gets to my core. I identify with the emotions too. I am still that boy who doesn't see in himself what others do. I still can't get to that place of self-acceptance. I doubt I ever will.

It is always fascinating to follow you and even that introduction to the song with Tuomas' interviews made me chills.I really like this song because of its sensitivity and soulfulness. I immediately looked back at that original performance by Tarja to refresh my memory and somehow I still liked both. Tarja had her own kind of mystique and charm in her voice. Floor made this a very sensitive and emotional interpretation.

The ending with Floor is so powerful. did you notice the small boy (Tuomas) on the screen reaching out to the flying swans? The swan is the guide to the Afterlife in Finnish mythology. He is imploring the swans to take him with them. I also loved the way she sang "Failed in becoming a God"! Once again Floor does not want to imitate Tarja. She has too much respect for Tarja. I personally think this version is much better. Especially the ending vocal is much more powerful. Remember according to Tuomas. The poem represents what Tuomas would want to say to all of the people he loved, including the fans, if he were to die unexpectedly. Peace.

Dead boy's poem is my favorite Nightwish song ever. It was so beautifully written. It helped me through my depression. "A lonely soul, an ocean soul" I wanted to get that tattooed on me.

This song has been from the beginning one of my favs. Very touching one. Loved Tarjas vocals in it...untill I heard Floors version. And after that it has been Floors, totally. She sings out so much more emotions during the song and I get endless goosepumbs and that did not happen with Tarja. And I think that Floor has discussed the style of singing this song with Tuomas and made the choice together. Also Emppu has matured with his quitar work, tone of his quitar is so much richer in the newer version ❤️🥰

Although I feel Wolf is not very much into Nightwish with Floor, I know Sistah would really love the Wacken 2013 epic concert. I believe you did Ghost Love Score from that concert , Song of Myself, Ghost River, Romanticide , Dark Chest Chest of Wonders and Storytime are all epic heavier songs Sistah would really dig. Actually i prefer Floor's take on this song. It's more "grounded" than the original. But hey.. I prefer Floor in almost every song that Tarja sang but i digress. i'm a Nightwish fan since their beginning and i can safely say that i havent felt so close to Nightwish since Floor was introduced. Idk. She brings out if i dare to say a maternity feeling with her voice that is pierces straight through my soul which i never got that feeling with Tarja. Dont get me wrong i LOVE Tarja and i respect her 100% and she is a mark in the music industry when she was with Nightwish but i still prefer Floor. It is what it is. When Tuomas studied in the US his host family took him to a Metallica concert. That changed Tuomas path in life. We're forever grateful for that family. If Floor had done it more Operatic it would be theater, make believe, not reality. By dinging it the way she does she's telling the story. She's not in focus, the words are, she's just the messenger. And Floor constantly changes her voice throughout the song, placement, timbre, vibrato, strength, emotion.

Love your reactions, I absolutely love Tarja but for this particular song i prefer Floor's version because in my personal opinion sometimes it's not always about the style that you're singing in but also about the feelings and emotions that you're giving into the song and I think Floor did a better job in bringing this song to life. No hard feelings tho it's just my personal opinion

To me, Floor lent her vocal style more to the storytelling of the song. I love that she sang the first part like she would tell a fairytale - which corresponds well to the theme of childhood. It conveys more emotion than operatic vocals which sound beautiful but also sometimes rather "cold" because they lack diversity. Especially in the first half, Floor switched her vocal color a lot, from very breathy to heady to slightly more pressing. And at least in my book, also the belting is rather a logical buildup from the storytelling part in terms of emotionality, since it requires a lot of control but it doesn't sound like it. If I had to paint a picture: Tarja's singing made the song a piece of Elven High Fantasy. Very beautiful but slightly distant, elevated. Floor's singing style made it more "human" in a way, more relatable.

You should do Song of Myself, by Nightwish

In my opinion, and I'm a nightwish fan since ocean born, Floor brought way more feeling into it than Tarja did. I loved it back in the days, but I have to be honest and say that I feel a deeper emotional feeling to Floor's version. And ps: I saw the comments of her being sick while this video was recorded.... I'm blown away (which I thought would have been impossible now) even more by this goddess!

Thank you for this. I love this live rendition of DBP it's such a big song in Nightwish history and lore. I love the original but being partly deaf I cant hear all of the notes now and can hear Floors darker toned voice. And shes always so emotive.

I have heard both versions....and I enjoyed them both....although they are totally different! Just like "Sleeping Sun".... the same song...sung differently...and both are amazing!

For a while, I thought Tarja would be the only one who could do this piece a justice but this is so great!

I think the reason Floor sang it this way is the storytelling. With a "normal" voice it's easier to understand and "get". With an operatic voice it becomes more of theater, a play, something fleeting.

First time I've ever slightly disagreed with the Wolf concerning a Nightwish song. I'll go more with Sistah's take on this one. I got started on Nightwish with Tarja, absolutely stunned me, but I cannot imagine Floor doing this song in any other style than what we just witnessed. Her stage presence, her ability to connect with the audience. and her vocal mastery of this number is much more to my liking. That being said, love watching your reactions, and appreciate your touching on everyone wearing a mask. We could have been a lot father down the road with the virus if people would stop being so selfish and ignorant and do what's best for Everybody!

I can enjoy both variants and I'm glad that Floor often does songs differently so we get more options. At least since it doesn't seem like Floor just does things differently only to be different but because she feels like there is something to express that way. What I think is the biggest standout in Floor's version is the softest parts in the early parts of the song. I think she has a different level of vulnerability that I feel translates better into an emotional response for me as a listener. Floor is very much a storyteller on stage and it seems like she really feels what she sings and can get that across to the audience. As for the coming versus video, just bring it on. A bit of comparison is never wrong if it's done respectfully, which I'm 100% sure that you'll be. I don't mind different opinions than my own either, that just makes for interesting conversation. I've listened to Nightwish since the 90s, in various degrees over the years, and in my view Nightwish became the greatest band on Earth in the era where Floor joined, but I've always enjoyed them and it's no knock on what was before. The greatness of what was before only shows to what level I hold them now.

To me she sang it that way, because that's what Tuomas wanted from the song and Tarja could not give him anything but one style, so now that he has a super versatile singer, he is re-arranging old songs the way he is hearing them in his head now, with all his accumulated experience and maturity as a composer. We also know that with Nightwish there are no egos, so not surprised that even though Floor could have belted the heck out of this, they decided collectively that this is not what the song requires or is calling for. They always do that, they go for the artistic choice and not the self-gratifying one. This is why, even though as musicians they are super proficient, I am not a fan of bands like DragonForce & Dream Theatre.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I agree with others that the only reason to go with the original version is nostalgia. The style Floor goes with here matches the song much better, both tonally and emotionally.

Tuomas isn't a writer, he's a stunning composer.

I love Tarja and her versions of all the songs she did with NightWish, but personally I prefer this, and infact most of Floors interpretations because she's puts such emotion and feeling into every word, far more than Tarja - just my opinion, but there it is 🤘

I personally prefer this version of Dead Boy's Poem. I feel it has more dynamic elements. Tarja's voice is strong but rarely varies in strength, if that makes sense. I think this version gives more room to display the vulnerable side of the lyrics. In the end, for me, it comes down to the last part: "a lonely soul, an ocean soul", which I nearly dislike in Tarja's version. The instruments invoke power and her voice does not. This is all subjective (= my opinion) so don't get too bothered, all y'all.

Every singer has her own style, her own interpretation, her own view and that makes it better for us, listeners, because we have a range of excellent songs sung by three different ladies to chose from. That makes it richer. One final thing..... Damn to all the Tarja/Anette/Floor haters. Embrace them, you will feel happier. I promise.

Floor is the transporter of emotions. Floor is the oil in the motor.

Had to go back to the original to make sure.. Tarja’s original is grand, yet emotionally distant. Floor makes every song more personal. Her singing style for this song is part of that more personal approach. Tarja is ice queen for a reason.

Floor's is the definitive version for me. That goes for all the Imaginaerum songs.

I'd actually never heard the Tarja version until just after watching this reaction. It's often about the version you hear first, but I feel, like most Tarja tracks the operatic dark tone is over done, she can't really switch it off. I think this is one of the songs that benefits from less operatic vocal.
