No, not true. There is a version of him that makes mostly electronic music who is a one in a billion genius prodigy as well. He's referred to as the electronic Mozart haha, I shit you not. And I gotta say, he holds up to Tuomas, which is insane to think we could have two of them in one lifetime. I know that we do not deserve this. Things he has in common with Tuomas are that he can make absolutely anything and everything, every album he puts out is basically a different genre, he likes to change time signatures constantly, he likes to use symphonic elements, also been in circulation since the 90s.. In an ambient album of his, he has stutters and sounds that are like *1/16,000th notes* which he'll *speed up and slow down exponentially...* go figure that shit. It tickles my brain and gives me the equivalent of a Floorgasm. He also plays all of the different instrumentation himself throughout the album. In other albums he sings. It's just not fair. This album, *"A Binary Universe"* was inspired by the birth of his daughter. This is the kind of album you need to listen from beginning to end though because that's how he writes his albums. They're one long continuous journey. One time he released one of his other albums in two long tracks, side A and side B so people couldn't just chop it up haha. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/isuTd8-hrKfMoWQ.html Get stoned and listen to this with your eyes closed. You're welcome. Just keep one hand on the volume because each song starts out sooo quiet so you gotta turn up to hear because even though it's barely audible it's so intricate, but then you're going deaf in a minute haha. *I do recommend not switching tracks though and letting one play into the next.* The second track is super trippy and he kinda delves into this jazzy shit, and crazy stutters. The 4th track, *The Golden Ratio* is my favorite, it's soo beautiful and awesome guitar. If you're only gonna listen to one that's what I recommend haha. Btw this album is written for Dolby 5.1, so if you can do that and lay in the center of it all (and especially if you have acid or mushrooms) that is pretty much ideal.

LAUDATO SI AD ASTRA - "Praise Be To The Stars". Floor has never sounded more beautiful than in that final section. And the voice speaking the quote from Romeo And Juliet is Tuomas Holopainen's wife Johanna Kurkela, who is part of AURI, with Tuomas and Troy Donockley.

Even Floor's haters must agree that this woman is a goddess, her voice is out of this world. And this song is just perfect, not good, not great, just perfect. Nightwish was my favorite band since Tarja was the lead singer, but now it's not just my favorite band, it's more than that, and a huge part of that is because Floor is the lead singer now, and she make this band even better than they was. I'm just sad because a lot of people don't even know this amazing band and didn't hear this masterpiece. Btw great reaction guys, a big hug from Argentina.

@@jerrypapadatos1210 Yes, the Anette fans who don't like Floor trying to sing soft. And then there's always the Tarja trolls who think that Floor's classical style is not on par with Tarja's. They say that Floor is a jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none. In my opinion, Floor just feels most at home with the bombastic metal sound. Anette does best with the soft ballad, folk-type stuff. Tarja does best with opera and classical. Each vocalist has their strengths and weaknesses; people will just hate on whoever doesn't fit their bias.

As a paleontologist, I've definitively been moved by this song. As you said, for us going to "smash" rock with the hammer is one, if not THE, of the best experience in our field, which means travelling to far places, outside human's territory, confronting Nature at its best. You find yourself back in time in the environment (working on sediments 150 million, 200, 500, 1 billion years old) and in the soul, when humans were just another new species in the stage of evolution. Absolutely brilliant, Nightwish have become a musical symbol for natural sciences (biology [with Procession], evolution [Greatest show], geology/paleontology [Endless Forms Most beautiful, plus others] and physics in general [this one and Endlessness). Other people already commented on the "Laudato Si Per Aspera" and "Laudato Si" itself. I'd like to add another possible reference, "Per Aspera Ad Astra", "attraverso le asperità sino alle stelle" in italian, "through hardships to the stars", a recent quote modified from Latin proverbs (like from Seneca, Cicerone and Virgilio). It would mean, in this case, that even through the hardship of Eugene's life (the disease which prevent him to go to the Moon, and his death), he was able to reach his dream.

Laudato si is also the title of a prayer (?) by Francis of Assisi. There's a Canadian Franciscan friar named Guylain Prince on YT who's doing a series of in-depth textual analyses of all the songs on the album (he's a Nightwish fan...) and he went into transports of delight when he got to that bit. His reactions and analyses are well worth watching - they're in French with subtitles, but his manner is very engaging and his insights are quite stimulating. Take the time, you'll thank me...

First time I heard the second half of Shoemaker I was just shaking in my chair. I'd already read what it was about and the greatest thing about it was what the song represents. Science and art are humanity's noblest pursuits. We don't need no tales of angels nor demons to scare our minds into submission to a closed horizon. We need to know the real, human stories of great scientists and artists who expand our horizons and thus our humanity. Tuomas is a great musician of course but, his greatness as an artist doesn't stop in his grasp of musical theory and storytelling (remarkable though that may be). What makes this song so special is great artists paying tribute to a great scientist, more than anything, thanking him for his contribution and the inspiration of the next generation of great minds pushing forward into the light. It's a spiritual experience and you don't need to believe in millennia old fairy tales to enjoy it.

Thank you for so much information I didn't know yet. I'm sure someone has mentioned it in the comments already, but i did a little research on "Laudato si ad astra" for my own. It's Latin and can be translated to "Praise be to the stars". But as this song is called Shoemaker I am sure, that it is meant as a last greeting to Shoemaker who brought so much knowledge for us and is now able to rest on the moon - close to the stars he loved and closer to them than most of us will ever be able to be.

I think laudato si, means Thy have to be honoured, impertive form, si means Thou, ad astra means to the stars as a movement to (ad), so as a shoutout TO THE STARS,. It is also sung in two seperate sentences not immedtialy after each other. The last part will stay with you all your life. So Beatiful.

I concur with Rik de Naam's comment about this being great investigative reporting. I've been a Nightwish fan since the Tarja era and immediately took a liking to this song the day Human II Nature was released. But I also tend to be drawn more strongly to overall musical sound than I am to the message that song lyrics are actually telling. I'm also not an Atheist and I have limited education about anything related to astronomy, astrology, evolution, etc. That said, I've always heard this song not having any real clue what in the heck Floor is even singing about. I really love the way you guys put this reaction video together because after listening to your very comprehensive explanation of who Eugene Shoemaker was (I never heard of him) and how he impacted space research, the lyrics throughout the song made so much more sense to me. It also makes so much sense that Nightwish would do a song like this, knowing already how strong an interest Tuomas has in astronomy and other sciences.

Epic opening HalfLifeSistah! Did you notice the perspective of looking at earth from the moon. The chorus when Troy sang was Eugene singing to us from his resting place on the lunar surface. Laudato Si - This somewhat references Pope Francis speech in which he sets the connotation as meaning “our common home”, “Ad Astra” translates to among the stars. So the translation in the connotative and denotative translation simply means “our home amongst the stars” which is a very ancient translation but shares the modern philosophy of Carl Sagan. Possibly one of the objectively highest points of Thoumas’ lyrics and the pinnacle of Floors vocals that we’ve been anxiously awaiting.

Omg you guys had me crying. I knew the story about shoemaker and his ashes but when put together with your explanation and Tyson’s stardust quote it is super powerful. Did you know that atoms magnified under the strongest electron microscope looks very much like a star scape. There is more to learn about our universe than we could possibly learn in a lifetime. Science is building on knowledge already documented over the last few decades by people like Eugene shoemaker. As a species We should concentrate on expanding our knowledge and continuation in the cosmos rather than seeking to gain knowledge on how to obliterate our species. Ad Astra- to the stars💕🤗

This is just one of those tracks that leave the silence echoing afterwards. Not a bad NdGT impression! :D. If you ever heard of this man before, you're either into astronomy or managed to hear about "Shoemaker-Levy 9", a comet that crashed into Jupiter in 1994. What a great introduction section folks you had me tearing up before we got to the song, even knowing what was coming. Nightwish "cares not for your human genres". Originally they said they weren't going to be able to do it live due to the technical difficulty of the track. However I think they are beginning to realise just how many people want to hear this live.

They contribute to making me hungrier for the actual reaction while learning stuff I probably wanted to know anyway. I don't understand why Wolf apologizes so much for making great content, that we don't see anywhere else. That's real passion for music, as opposed to other reaction channels that bail out as soon as the clip is over.
