Tuomas wrote this about the solar eclipse in 1999. The 222 days of light refers to the time of jan1st to aug8th the day of the eclipse. 222 days. Floors parents are at this show.

Tampere is where i saw the light of the day for the first time. A beautiful town with two lakes and Tammerkoski (river) floating through the city center. Tampere will always stay in my heart. I saw Nightwish in concert there in April this year. They played in The new Nokiaareena. A night to remember. All my love to Floor..she is such a sweet soul. As somebody already commented, this song is about a solar eclipse in 1999. The story goes, Tuomas/Nightwish were asked to write & record a song to celebrate the occasion, and they said yes. But they were given instructions not to write a song longer than 4 min. Such strict guidelines annoyed Tuomas (who already was fond of super long songs) so much that he made the song/recording 4 min and 1 sec long. 😂 From a singer's perspective, this song really needs a professional singer to sound good! Having lived in Finland when this song came out and got popular and, hence, was performed in every karaoke bar and school spring festival there is... amateur singers just butcher it. You need to get it just right not to make it sound cheesy (because the lyrics lean towards cheese a bit, IMHO). Or terribly off-key. There's no place to breathe! For me, Floor really brings the song alive. Don't get me wrong, Tarja's original version is BEAUTIFUL but only after I heard Floor's interpretation, I connected to the song emotionally - the song was something more than just pretty sounds.

Amazing performance. This song shows that Tuomas writes a song when he had a story to tell and Floor - as the empath she is - she feels exactly what the song needs to tell his story with a load of feelings.

i have the utmost confidence in the care Floor is receiving. She deserves the best. No other singer has EVER, in my 77 years, caused me to squirm with joy and Floorgasms,, no matter how many times i watch.The melding of the personalities, hurried and rushed tho they were at the time, has given us decades of fantasy and love as these Troubadours (as you said) travel this world.

Christie, that day, her parents were in the audience, all of Nightwish knew. When later in a dutch TV-show she was confronted with the proud faces of her parents, she started to cry happy tears. I wanted you to know that about her. Stay safe and sound. Elmar from Germany.

One of my favorite things with Floor is with that belt following the solo she maintains the feeling and emotion in her voice to keep the song consistent. That is where Floor separates herself from other vocalists.

I am so sorry I missed this live. Christi, you really get and feel what we love so much about Floor and Nightwish, and I just love and appreciate that about you so much. I have literally watched this performance dozens if not 100 times, still hits me in the feels. So beautifully played and sung. I love so much that moment towards the middle, she knows almost all eyes and ears are on her, turns and bows to the band, so simple yet powerful her sharing that spotlight with her brothers, setting the stage for her beautiful voice. The wink at the very end, had to be for her mother and father who were in attendance and watching this whole show, tears, pride and joy written all over their faces.

Remember, this song was actually written for Tarja. Floor is so versatile, she can sing the songs of Traja and Annette. I love when Floor is performing, she acknowledges the other performers on the stage. In this one, she points to Empuu for his solo, and doesn't just point and drop her arm. She moves her arms and shows she loves it as well. In GLS 2013, she points to Jukka after "the Note". Praying for her full recovery.

Sleeping Sun was launched on 11th of August 1999, the same day with the solar eclipse which occurred in part of Europe and Asia that year. Now if you take the exact verses which contain "222" you have: 222 days of light will be desired by the night. coincidence or not, there are exactly 222 days starting 1st of January till August 10th inclusive. - valid for non-leap years. this was written during the Tarja era of Nightwish, which is still amazing what she can do with songs not even written for her. but you are right that Tuomas has such a great singer he can work with. and he knows how to get the best out of each member. I've never really been personally invested in a celebrity figure, but Floor from interviews and her you tube channel really feels like a best friend I've never met.

Fun story about this song....Tuomas didn't really want to write it. He was asked to write a song about the 1999 solar eclipse, and Tuomas said that is not how he writes/composes songs. He finally gave in, and as he does, wrote this MASTERPIECE!

I love love LOVE Floor's voice and her version of this beautiful, amazing piece. But as this is a Tarja era piece and it's her I first heard this singing, it's her version my inner mind's ears supply first. It's one of the first song of Nightwish I'd ever listened to and one of the songs I both sang to the little girl I did babysit as a teen and to our first dog when he was still a puppy, so... fond memories 😌

Beautiful and such a wonderful reaction to this song. This is one of my very favorite performances of this, along with the Masters of Rock show. Our lovely Floor is dealing with so much scary and emotional stuff. For her to say, "I want to live, I want to watch my daughter grow into a woman" says so much about how frightening the diagnosis of cancer is. She has a positive prognosis on her surgery and so many fans pulling for her, yet how terrifying it must be to worry about the results of the lymph node tests to come back. I think we all could just put our arms around her right now and pray for her complete recovery. Rest, sweet Floor, and heal.

This is yet another trademark of Nightwish, each repeat of the chorus is done slightly different. A different volume, changing of volume during the chorus, changing the key or tempo. They keep things moving. They so remind me of Renaissance from the 70's. Checkout Renaissance Live at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic.

I am doing the best I can, as two vertebrae in my lumbar area are bulging and have slipped in opposite directions. I am on muscle relaxers & a mild Opioid for the severe sciatica pain and the back pain. I also cannot walk for more than a couple of steps without collapsing, so I use a walker to get around. I am also taking nerve blockers to be able to function at all....as the two discs are putting pressure on my spinal cord, causing all sorts of weird feelings in my lower body. Nightwish helps me keep my spirits up...as sitting up to work on my paintings is quite painful...so I listen to music.

This song was already written in 1998 and sent by Tarja (also beautiful but completely different from Floor's version). Anette has also sung this, but in my opinion without any connection with the song (poppy). But everything Floor sings brings about so much feeling, just magical, she is the best vocalist for Nighwish.🎶🎶🤟🏻🤟🏻

Floor says she hopes to be ready by the time the new tour starts now in November, but considering that those treatments such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy take 3 to 9 weeks, or longer, I hope the guys postpone the dates of the upcoming tour a bit, to give her enough time to heal and recover, not only from the therapy itself, but from its side effects. Floor is a strong woman, there is no doubt about that, but she is human, and I know that she would be able to go on stage even if she's feeling sick, as she has done before, and I'm also sorry if I offend or annoy those who are waiting to see them live, and read my comment, please don't come at me, I'm only thinking of the greater good of Floor and her health

I am with you regarding her state is most important and not the tour, I think radiotherapy will be 3 Months after surgery….but Floor need to take care on herself. She is unbelieveable she did tour in South America knowing about her disease - with Performance and commitment to the fans who are awaiting NW for a long time. My respect for Floor is higher than ever and I am a huge Floor fan for a long time. Her performance for me in general is unmatched - and she has the genius of tuomas, a combination out of this world.

Great comment and don't worry. Can't imagine anyone coming at you. I believe (like Diego said) that Floor's radiotherapy treatment will commence 3 months after surgery. That's probably why Floor said she'd be back for the November part of the tour. Cheers!

C'mon Annie, you're slacking 😁 Perhaps it's the particular Dutchie meds I'm on. Should make me slow down, yet the opposite happens. Like coffee, which makes me sleep rather than stay up. This is definitely my Favourite Nightwish song, ... every time I hear it ... - Just a point about your comment around "... the end of the Pandemic" - It is NOT over yet. The Care Home where my 95 year old Father lives has just gone into lockdown again due to more than 4 new cases of Covid. Every day I still take all the precautions, cleanse my hands, wear a mask in public. Not for me, for my family :)

Well, not written with Floor in mind as the singer of course. This was written for Tarja. However, it is a good thing that Floor reinterpreted it, because she has so much more ability to tell a story and her emotional range is so much greater. With Tarja it was a fine song, undermined by poor accent (not Tarja's fault, I can't speak Finnish, let alone sing it...) ; by a pretty poor emotional range due to much less variety in her voice; and by lack of control over her vibrato. Don't get me wrong - Nightwish songs were always brilliantly written and competently performed - but my ear could only take 30 mins or so of Tarja at a time before I needed something else for some variety. With Floor I don't need that. I can happily listen to a couple of hours. Of course, live in concert with the atmosphere going, I could listen to an hour of concert quite easily with any of the singers - lots of distractions!

Love this song. So emotional. It was heartbreaking to see her break down at the end of this song when she performed it in Antwerp a couple of weeks ago. But great to see she's back touring, and sounding just as good as ever.

Prayers and best wishes for Floor. This is one of the Nightwish songs that drew me in. I love Tarja's version, and Floor's performance is a masterpiece. Written by Tuomas to celebrate a solar eclipse. Beautiful.

Best Wishes to Floor she adds too much the "Humanities Music" to be Lost. This is a Great Performance of this epic styled Song, Tarja recorded two versions of this Song in the early 2000s, now Floor adds Her Take to the Composition and Makes it Her Own.
