Nightwish was never "everything" to Tarja. She was classically trained and she always wanted to have her own solo career. That is something all Nightwish guys have had since, but they couldn't accept that at the time. Also, they accused Tarja that she had become a diva, but all I can think is, that she just matured faster than boys. She found a husband and wanted to be and travel with him, instead of drunken rock stars. Can anyone seriously blame her for that? Tarja also didn't want to have parties after every gig. Basically, guys didn't accept that she had her own schedule and needs. And they hated Tarja's husband-manager. So, Tarja told guys, that she will quit after next album, but guys wanted to humiliate her, and fired her with an open letter in October 2005, right after the final concert of "Once" tour (which they also filmed, DVD is called "End Of An Era"). Tuomas got all the blame from fans and he was very depressed. He composed a song about those dark feelings he had, "The Poet And The Pendulum". Many old fans abandoned them after Tarja was gone, me included. First I was angry, but then I realized, that they could not have continued together. They just handled that situation so poorly, and basically ensured that we will never see Tarja on stage with them again. With that said, there might be some light at the end of the tunnel, because Tarja just recently participated on making of Crewish album "Twice". Crewish is a side project for Nightwish roadies and staff who were unemployed because of covid, so they made two albums while not touring (basically Nightwish covers and mashups). Tarja is also a very good friend with Floor, so I'm sure Floor has nothing against having Tarja on stage with them once in a while. I have to admit that I never gave Anette a chance, which I now regret. The contrast was too big for me after Tarja, but Anette deserved a lot more than she got from me.

yes Tarja has a very unique and beautiful voice. I really like this early Nightwish era. They were darker (gothic-style) and even heavier (of course not in this one). Other songs with Tarja that I would highly recommend to check out are: "Swanheart", "Deep Silent Complete", "Wishmaster", "The Siren", "The Pharao sails to orion", "Walking in the air", "Astral Romance"

god yes she's an angel ❣I love her voice, especially in the early years (haunting describes it really well!) and the song is beautiful. thank you for the reaction! :) as for Tarja leaving, nothing major really happened, it was more a lot of things coming together... - Tuomas, Emppu and Tarja started the band shortly after school so they were all pretty young but were successful quite quickly with little time to adjust - touring was stressful and later on, Tarja wanted to tour less and the guys wanted to tour more - Tarja got married in 2003 and her husband also became her manager, resulting in 2 managements which led to miscommunication and conflict of interests - Tarja said she was lonely and exhausted during tours, and also later implied the drinking habits and sexual comments backstage bothered her; Tuomas said her husband changed her into becoming a diva and caring more about money and her own career than the band - Tarja told the band she would do one more album and then leave and focus on her own music, then the band fired her right after the end of their 2005 tour with an open letter that she had no knowledge of - I think it's true to say that Tarja probably never intended to stay in the band forever, she always felt torn between her classical music and the band, so the split was going to come one way or another. but she was always 100% commited when on stage, performing even when sick or coming back on stage after an incident where a fan forced his way on it to grope her it sucks how it ended but they're not on bad terms nowadays, Floor and Tarja consider each other friends and both Nightwish and Tarja have continued making music so it's all good in the end:)

That is the kind of voice that carries an identity of its own, you can hear it anywhere and you will instantly say Tarja! I have yet to find a voice timbre quite like hers. Rare jewel.

The Gothic Queen is so young here. She hasn't changed much though. One thing that always cracks me up is seeing a bath in a metal music video. Thank God it's not filled with blood this time. :) But it's probably because the song itself isn't all that metal. Beautiful ballad.

I believe this song came out in 1999. Tarja is very young here, and her voice and technique have changed throughout the years. You can see that evolution if you listen for example a song from Nightwish fifth (Tarja's last album) Once (2004). You can hear the evolution even more clearly if you listen to her solo career. Especially her latest album In the Raw(2019) So yes, Tarja has a solo career. She has released 5 rock studio albums so far, In the Raw being the latest one. She has released also a few live albums and classical albums. She just released a best of album. So Tarja is still very active with her musical career. Right now she is finnish of her Christmas tour in Europe.

To get a complete journey into Nightwish you need to include all 3 talented Female singers and of course the talented Marko. My favorite era is the Tarja era because of her vocals on Tuomas's songs. Yes Tarja has a very successful solo career and Nightwish carries on so all is well

Tarja's resignation was a very dramatic episode. The relationship between her and the band had been bad for some time, so at the end of 2004 she decided to tell the band that she would leave. The idea was to record one last album and go on a farewell tour. She wanted to announce her decision to the public and prepare fans for the vocalist change, however, Tuomas convinced her not to do so at the time. It turns out that, after that meeting, the band planned a public firing on the sly. They delivered a letter to Tarja at the end of the "End of an era" show and posted it on the band's website the next day. The band made several accusations against Tarja and her husband. It was a scandal. In response, Tarja wrote a letter and held a press conference to respond better to the group's accusations. Her husband also spoke. He answered more than 150 questions from fans around the world and posted the answers on the internet. If you are NW fan...you better look more the older material cause otherwise you do not understand this band so well. Tuomas, Emppu and Tarja founded this band and the first era defined everything. Five albums and plenty of extras - later came changes to the line up though. Tuomas and Emppu are still remaining founding members. They are extremely versatile and can do everything. This one is a ballad but then they do so heavy material too. Anette and Floor have done naturally the songs of all the set lists cause they are later substitutes for Tarja. If you go step by step...check the early concerts first....like "From Wishes to Eternity"...good start from year 2000 and then next ones....Anette Era and then Floor Era.

This is Tarjas song , Floor is great but every era has a queen ... that first era was Tarja thou Queen. Great song play it always in piano .That melodic ostinato is epic . That videoclip recorded at lake Iri . Tarja is a extreme voice. Like Floor is. But we must give some credits to Annete Olzon too.

Tuomas runs the band and if you don't do what he wants you get sacked as he has done with 3 members of the band

I would rather describe Tarja's voice as cold and arrogant. This is typical of an operatic voice and is also trained in this way. Floor should have sung all of Tarja's songs by now. She sings more of a mix of opera and pop and the voice is warmer. The studio versions are only available from the original singer: The floor version: NIGHTWISH. SLEEPING SUN.
