No, Atypical's not a gay show, but it is a great show. Atypical is a 30-minute coming of age comedy about a teenager with autism. Nik Dodani plays a straight womanizer and is hilarious in the role. I truly believe Atypical is the best comedy on TV. Critics love it and it has a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The performances are jaw-dropping and the writing is impeccable. I know it's a cliche, but it's the kind of show that will make you laugh and cry. Watch just one episode and see what you think. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

This is something that I respect about Western culture, had Nik been brought up in India, he'd have a tough time accepting his own sexuality. The irony being that India was a land where sexuality was once celebrated, it gave the world masterpieces like "Kamasutra" and "Rithusamhara", yet it took 70 more years after independence from Britain for India to legalize homosexuality. There are still many Victorian laws and outlooks that haven't completely changed. I hope Nik would serve as an inspiration to millions of Indians who are struggling to accept themselves.

You can blame the Victorian British for that. they even enacted laws to prevent such expressions of culture. But the bureaucratic and cultural structures the British established have been kept in place after independence.

I assume it's from the uptight "christian" puritanical rule over India. Look at how many repressed men there are in the US. There is a large anti-gay male population on the "down low", meaning they get married, have kids, etc then go and bang dudes in their off hours. Meanwhile, they espouse anti-gay/homophobic rhetoric and values.

Lots of comments criticizing the whole "race" and "culture" cliché in comedy; try writing jokes - or anything - that isn't related to your experience or journey, and see how far you get. There's a saying amongst writers: "Write what you know"; your material is good, when part or most of it, is from personal experience. If nothing else, it influences the delivery. Nik did a great job and I liked it. 👍

Clichéd, again with the Indian jokes, it was kinda funny when it was new like 20 years ago. It's interesting how young Indian comedians even today instead of coming up with authentic material simply dig up old stereotypes for a few laughs.

That's what Indians are good at "Copying stuff and repeating it millions of time". No disrespect to Nik, but musical movies!! Dude that's the culture. People need new content that should make the audience laugh their asses-off, whereas, he stuck in the 1900's. I'm just giving feedback no negative vibes here.

Indian comedians have authentic material. But all of those amazing comedians are in India. Idk who the hell is this guy. Checkout Kenny Sebastian for starters.

God, it has become so cringey now. Like, even we Indians living in India can't relate to any single one of these. The lawyer joke is so out of date, i think even my father didnt see times of what he is talking about.

Saying that every straight man is a weasel who doesn't respect women is pretty much the same thing as saying that every gay man has AIDS or that every Asian is bad at driving. He might not actually believe that and is just trying to be offensive for shock value, which means best case he's just a hack, worst case he's a bigot.

Its an achievement being an open gay Indian, if you were in India because you deal with a ton of stigma. Its safer in America, so yeah, marginalized bingo it is I guess..
