Nik is a really nice guy in person aswell. I do security at Lets Rock 80's festival that travels around the uk and I talk to him every time. One thing is for sure. He always remembers a face. First time I met him was last year at Lets Rock Sunderland. A year later he remembered who I was.

Best comment I have seen today, thank you. I was falling asleep when I saw it too but it woke me up! I am 50 and feel the same. I have been listening to Nik Kershaw since 1984 when I bought the album ( it is still fantastic) and I feel the same much of the time when I hear the music as I did then. The follow up album was superb too.

@@eightiesmusic1984 I never really paid much attention to Nik during his heyday. When the lady cooks at my Scripture Union camp kept playing his songs I became well and truly hooked. Similar story with Gilbert O'Sullivan in the 70's.

@@davidkelly1414 Glad you have enjoyed his music through the years. I saw him live in Liverpool in 2011 at a small venue. His vocals and guitar playing were just as good as in his prime in the eighties. I could not help think of the contrast between a small crowd and his performance at the legendary Live Aid on another day now far away in July 1985. The cooks had good taste in music!

Nik Kershaw is without doubt one of the most underrated solo artists of the 80's. Not only is he a brilliant guitarist, his lyrics and song writing ability is second to none. Its desperate when you listen to the total crap that's hitting the charts now compared to stuff like this song. A reminder of just how great the 80's really was. I’m so sorry for the loss of your husband. I understand why this song affects you, I was going through a particularly painful time in my life when it was in the charts. His lyrics really reflect turmoil, confusion, sorrow and questioning that many of us feel. I also lost my husband when we were 35 years old over 20 years ago, I didn’t want to be there as well, the pain was too great. When I listen to songs now, although I feel sadness, I also remember the love, joy, fun and togetherness we had. Again I’m so sorry . He’ll always be with you in your heart, regards, Mary x.

This is something I like a lot with 80's new wave and pop songs : behind the out-of-this-world instrumentals and flashy trends or weird clips, you can notice a very down-to-earth melancholy and existential angst which countered the superficiality this era wanted to drown people into in the West.

I am now 56 and every day I go back to the 80s.......a time when I was at comprehensive school, paper round, college, first car, first job, loads of mates, out down the pub every night, football, great music and fashion. Punks, skins and mods, nothing was false like today. I have had children and saw that none of them lived their teenage years like we did..........we were lucky.

Every single song my dad keeps listening over and over is a masterpiece. I don't like all of them immediately, but always end up loving them. This one I used to hate because he would blast it on the car EVERY.SINGLE.TIME ... but here I am... no one forced me to search this song... It's 4 AM and this song just seems PERFECT PS: I still live with him and as we grow older our music taste match more and more... and I am not complaining at all hehe

Nik Kershaw is a one off so talented and yet so humble ..I've read some comments from people who have met him and I can agree in full that he is a real gent ..a few years back I'd called at a venue to try and get Nik to sign me some vinyl (was late afternoon soundcheck time )I had missed him by about 5 mins ....someone must have told him since a short time after he came out looking for me and signed me the records ..we had a nice chat ..since that day I've met him on one further occasion and we had another great chat ....he has made some fantastic records and in my opinion his live aid performance on that unique day back in the summer of 85 was right up there with the best ....Nik you are a credit to music and it was a pleasure to meet you

Thanks Scott. Couldn’t agree more and without descending into muso pomposity Nik was a bloke who was musically accomplished, technically adept and brave in his song structures, qualities so often missing in much of ‘pop’ music especially today. Nothing derivative or formulaic about this either. First time I’ve listened in years and still ‘fresh as a daisy’ as they say or said. Great video too, Stu X

My best decade of all. Born in the 60's, tried to figure what growing up was all about in the 70's, went out out into the wide world in the 80's and put my stamp on it by getting married in 88. Any song in the 80's conjours up nostalgic memories for me, times, places, the smells and of course friends and acquaintances who shared those ups and downs with us. I'm a father of 3, grandad to 2 (so far), still married to the same girl who stole my heart with her crazy Maddona look. My kids and grandkids think i'm a nutter when Frankie, DuranDuran, the Cure etc. is played and i start my jigging thing going on lol but god, wouldn't it be nice to be my youth in the 80's for just one more day ...... Peace guys xxx
