Here is an extract of The Book of Life by Nikolai Obukhov (1892--1954), most likely the Preface/Prologue. Conducted in 1991 by Paul Daniel in Frankfurt. Artwork by Mikhail Larionov

Interesting how this guy was supported by Ravel even though their sounds are so much different.

Apparently his wife was so fed up with the obsession Obukhov had over this work, she tried to destroy it, but Obukhov stopped her in time. He repaired the piece, and he even used some of his own blood in it!

Such a visionary work written by a man born in the 19th Century. A well kept secret. However I am proud that I have heard this. I have something to say why such music shouldn't be avoided.

Leonid Sabaneev wrote an oratorio on the Revelation of St. John, Apocalypsis. Score is in the Library of Congress if anybody wants to have a go at it. Apparently some reconstruction required. One drawback: estimated running time is 10 hours.

Hi, I've been searching the score of the Apocalypse for quite some time. May I ask, were did you get this info? And, is the score sharable?

@@scriabinismydog2439 My reply to you seems to have been deleted, for some reason. Alexander Maksimenko is the world's Sabeenev expert. He has written an article on the Apocalypse and its condition. If you Google me and write to the address given on my website, I can send you the article. I have confirmed with the Library of Congress that they have the score. You can write to the ms. division. The call number is ML96. The score is oversized so I do not know if it can be copied, but they allow visitors.

Brilliant. If I may, I would like to suggest scheduling this work in concert with Prokofiev's 3rd symphony for a fun evening of religious mania.

The first three notes are virtually identical to the beginning of Honegger's "Pacific 231". Since Honegger worked with Oboukhov, I wonder if...

God please tell me someone has recorded the full thing? Does anyone have any info on where we can find more info on Obukhov and his works? Even these days on the internet seems to be a dead end.

A shame the rest of the score is lost. Any musicologists in Europe looking for it?

Hi Leonardo, I am a student of the Russian Avant Garde and am planning on writing a piece in this Nature. I heard that his masterpiece The Book of Life was stolen as he was brutally robbed in Paris at the end of his life.
