As a hobbyist , this was my go to lens for almost all casual shoots, travel etc. till its motor died. I used it for 5+ years continuous and I still owns and use it. It is so convenient in travel. Its best apertures for my copy is from f/4 or f/5.6 to f/9. It constituted good enough portion of my shorts due to its compactness. Of course other 35 versions of Nikon/Sigma/Tamron were pretty impressive and I used them many times, but this lens was so attached to me that I went back to it on every travel I made, if there are no specific purpose or otherwise.

@@simbrishtv7461 It's like comparing apples to oranges. The 35mm is amazing in low light, perfect for portraits because of the background/subject separation, compact but you are limited to 35mm. I use this lens on my fullframe Nikon D600 and its a very good performer on FX as well. Of course there is a noticeable amount of vignetting but for the price (considered the price of 480€ for the FX compatible 35mm from nikon) its absolutely a strongly recommended lens in my opinion. You can easily create a default import setting for the lens in lightroom (or whatever you prefer to use) to cancel out the vignetting. Sharpness is at least with a 24MP fullframe sensor totally fine if you dont look in the extreme corners of the image. Down down to i think f4 to f5.6 gets the vignetting less and starts to increase as you stop further down. I for my point of view dont buy a 1.8 lens to use it that much stopped down especially because I own a 28-75mm f2.8 so thats not a problem at all. In conclusion its even with a fullframe camera an excellent choice if you do photography as a hobby and dont want to spend four times the price just to get a little less vignetting PS: greetings from germany and keep up the great work, i really enjoy every single of your videos

However when I upgraded to the D5500 this lens rarely focuses accurately (my 55-200 VR II focuses great with both cameras). God, I loved this lens when I shot Nikon before moving to Fuji. Was fantastic on my D7000 and D610; I found it to work beautifully on full frame up to about f/5.6 (depending on subject distance). The vignetting could be corrected but I often found it pleasant for portraits so rarely bothered. This lens’ value for money has spoiled me for other systems; my Fuji lenses are great but I always wonder why as APSC lenses they cost 4x or more than this one!

I am wondering if there is a workaround to bypass the crop mode restriction on mirrorless cameras, as this lens has a large enough image circle to cover FF sensor, with only a little vignetting at extreme corners. It was possible to use this lens in FF mode on older DSLRs, and it was a nice affordable walkaround lens. I will be glad to know if there is a way to cheat the Z cameras (but without damaging the camera or lens of course).

Interesting thing about this lens is that it covers almost an FX area. There's a lot of vignetting but usable. Unfortunately, Nikon z system autocrop and you cant do anything about it other than twisting the ftz adapter a little bit to disconnect the electronics after focusing. Also, this was my first non-kit lens and the sharpness and contrast just wowed me. Didn't think my camera can produce such results.

Interesting either you have a good copy or i own a bad one. My copy is good in the middle but the corners have absolutely no sharpness and a lot of fringing.

I second the notion that it's useable on fullframe bodies as well, when i got my D750 i wanted to spare the expense of a new 35mm, and apart from slightly heavier vignetting in the corners it usually covers the whole frame. (there are some lighting conditions that make some slight cropping necessary) If you stay under f/8 that is, darker than that and the corners are totally dark.

It also works fine on my D850 in FX mode, minimal vignetting easily fixed in PS.

shame that the z7 doesn't allow you to shoot on FF. on my recently upgraded d750 I've fallen in love with this lens again - it does have a heavy vignette when focusing far or at aperture 4+ though, but it can be corrected or cropped and the quality for the price is astounding!

It gives heavy vignette but it's acceptable on full frame. I shot it on a Nikon D810.

wow, really silly that Nikon limits the mirrorless cameras in software to not allow this
@cameron-w
@cameron-w 3 жыл бұрын
@@tommihommi1 it’s not software. The lens is for the smaller APS-C and if you shot it in full frame, the edges would be completely black because the lens doesn’t show the sensor anything there.
@tommihommi1
@tommihommi1 3 жыл бұрын
@@cameron-w as lots of people have said, the lens is OK on full frame unless you stop it down. On previous nikon full frame cameras, the software doesn't prevent you from using DX lenses.

@@cameron-w I've used it for a few years with D700/D600. Only corners are dark, so It needs about 1.1x crop or 4:3 ratio
