In my opinion Nikon have shot themselves in the foot by discontinuing production of this amazing camera. I may a little biased bu, for wildlife photography this camera is unbeatable. You can keep your full frame Mirrorless Z9, I will have another D500.

Thanks for sharing...yes I agree with Phil as this camera D500 is still an amazing camera. Should be continued & not been replaced/discontinued....I don't understand why Nikon made this decision as they certainly did not canvas the photographers who use them... cheers 😀

I totally agree with you, I'm now looking to purchase another new D500 body as I don't want a full frame Z9 as it ofers me nothing other than a silent shutter and that has never been an issue for me really.

Beautiful photographs, well done! I'd say the D500 is the best APSC sports and wildlife camera ever made. What they need to do now is make a mirrorless D500. Call it the Z90 maybe. Give it the Z9 autofocus system like the D500 has the autofocus system of the D5 and D850.

Nice shots , D500 and D850 are great DSLR's , I still have mine used as back ups now . Only thing I didn't like was the shutter noise when photographing skittish subjects . I mainly use a Sony A1 now but got that for silent shooting , didn't want to mess about waiting for the Z9. Must admit I find it sad Nikon have discontinued the D500, for the price nothing touches it

Hi and thanks for the nice comment. It is disappointing that Nikon have killed off the D500 which is a reliable workhorse. Silent shutter is the only advantage for me to move to mirrorless but the Z9 is out of my price range and offers nothing in the way of image improvement over my D500, in fact, being full frame it's worse. Now a cropped sensor Z9 would get me drooling.

@@wildlifesnapper1 At least with the D500 it doesn't stick to the background and ignores the small bird in the foreground on a twig or bull rush unlike all the Z cameras ;) Quite an annoying bug that plagues most mirrorless , unfortunately the Z's seem worst for it .

@@wildlifesnapper1 Wow, awesome glass. But this kind of weight require a lot of dedication. The longest I have now is 105 macro ) Keep up the good work!

@@airruner Thanks, yes, carrying the 600mm on the tripod with a Gimbal head can be a strain. I prefer to remain static with it which can mean missed shots. I tend to use the 200-500 more as its lighter and I can walk forever with it and hand hold it. The 600mm is a better lens though.

Morning.... Wow the clearest and sharpest picture's I've seen so far on you tube.. Mark Smith should take notice... Could you please tell me what cards you use in your D500. I'm getting a new D500 this week and your pics have me anxious to get out this spring and start taking my own nature shots... Please tell me the lenses you feel render the best image from this camera... The picture's I've just seen taken by you are inspiring... Thank you...

Hi & thanks for the nice comment. I use one Lexar 32GB 2933x, 440MB/s XQD card in one slot and a simple SD card as an overflow in the other slot. These images were taken using a Nikon 200-500 f/5.6 lens, including the butterfly as this lens is also excellent for Macro work once you back off enough to get within the minimum focus distance. Happy snapping with your D500.

Very nice combo, I sold my D500 and Tamron 150-600 G2, got some good shots but was a heavy setup ! Changed to an Olympus Em1 Mk iii and the 300 f4 Pro as well as the 40-150 F2.8 Pro have now purchased the OM-1 to go with my Pro lenses, the images from this setup leave the D500 in the dust ! in my opinion ! Cheers

@@roycejohnson929 it's OK, I've looked at images online and in honesty your claim does not hold water. If you put shots taken with the Olympus next to shots taken with a D500 there is no perceivable difference when taken by a professional. The reality is knowing how to get the best from your equipment and sadly many people are unable to do this. In the 21st century there is little to choose between quality of cameras and lenses.

@@roycejohnson929 I stand by that comment but there is nothing I've seen from OIlympus shots that blow the D500 into dust. I did not compare the D500 to another camera model and my comment was made after shooting only Nikon cameras for 40 years. I would never say that one camera is better than another but when you look at the wildlife photographers who are using the D500 I think the volumes speak for themselves. If you are happy with Olympus then that's great and I wish you every success.
