On couldn't have asked for a more complete evaluation of this superb camera, nicely done!! One of my absolute favorite "go to" cameras for just about everything I'm likely to shoot! Your new menu based approach to your reviews adds a component that will most likely best serve those interested in a specific issue or function of the reviewed camera. Great concept, especially for those needing additional insight about a camera's specific feature set and not willing to watch the entire video to get it.

I have watched multiple D750 guides, including Tony and Chelsea, Jared Polin, Matt Granger and a couple others. I found yours to be most in depth and informative out of all the guides I watched. Your user guide help me get to know my brand new D750 a lot. Also, thumbs up to the samples taken for the video.

I got my D750 now for almost one year, I had it with me on my 5-day-trip to New York and it is a real working horse. The image quality is flawless, the viewfinder is big, bright and clear, the tilt screen is extremely useful and the grip is much better than the one of the D7000 I had before. One of the greatest things is how well the D750 performs in low light. Even with ISO 1600, there is almost NO noise at all (looking at 100% crop). Besides being full frame, the D750 "feels" a lot like the D7000 - just better in almost every way (except that it is heavier and bulkier...)

Learned one thing after purchasing to pass on - if you don't want the LCD lighting up when you change ISO using the back button and thumbwheel, press the shutter half-way as you press the ISO button - it keeps the panel from lighting up - but you still can see it on the top right deck display and through the viewfinder.

Your style and reviews unique, I love your videos. It is clear you spent long time on this video. Thanks. For the Nikon D750, for me it is the best all around DSLR available now, it is amazing for wedding, events and landscape. I am using this camera since 9 months it is just amazing. For the video part, even if it has 4K for me DSLR is not the first option for video, for video i have the Sony AX100 camcorder, video camera made with video in mind, no recording limits and with all video features out of the box. Again thanks for your reviews, my good wishes for you to hit the 100K very very soon.

Most comprehensive camera review Ive seen on any camera. Excellent!! 👍👍 Im a huge fan of this camera, arguably the best hybrid on the market. There was only one point I may disagree on... quality difference in video between FX and DX. I noticed a drop to DX when I did a test. Also, one point for video if I can add. Everyone keeps saying, do sharpening in post. But Ive found you can retain a bit more detail if you set sharpening a few notches above minimum default in Flat profile.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 8 жыл бұрын
+markstanley2001 Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate your comments. That's an interesting observation, did you mean for stills or for video and how would you characterize the difference? I would agree with you, for as much as it's guidance that's often given, I prefer not to turn it down all the way.
@markstanley2001
@markstanley2001 8 жыл бұрын
+Maarten Heilbron between FX and DX, i would equate the difference I saw similar to digital zoom in say a mobile phone. I wouldn't imagine the camera would have to do that seeing that it has a 24MP sensor, plenty to fill a 1080p frame. I am not sure how they allocate sensor pixels to fill the 1080p frame, but i definitely noticed a drop on quality... enough never use unless last resort. If someone knows how they allocate pixels to video frame, they would be nice to know.

Hi, just stumbled on your channel, I got the D750 from my Dad, when he went mirrorless and I am trying a lot of different photography things, your review still seems to me to be the most all encompassing, for example I tried astro and was very confused why cranking the ISO didnt allow me to see the stars in liveview for focusing, I watched a lot of Videos about the D750 but yours was the first one to acutally mention that you have to turn on exposure preview in liveview, thank you for your great work.

I really enjoyed your very detailed tutorial although I struggled to keep up in some places and I have been using this camera for awhile. I guess I will just have to review those parts I didn't quite get. One suggestion is to separate the photo shooting from movie shooting which for me would have helped. IMHO it could have been better if it was 45 mins long and I usually think the reverse is true of most YT bloggers!! Thank you. Very helpful.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 6 жыл бұрын
It was a pleasure to read your kind words. I do try to separate stills from video, but on most models they are blended together, and it hards to talk about focus for stills without mentioning that the same features are not available for video. I'm not sure I"m ready to go to 45 minutes, I've been treating 30 (or so) as the reasonable maximum.

An interesting video which I have enjoyed watching. As a Nikon D750 owner myself, I am particularly happy with the image quality (in both stills and video) from this camera. But the announcement of the new Nikon D780 is of great interest to myself. The big weakness of the D750 is the poor video autofocus. Given that the D780 shares the same video autofocus system as the Nikon Z6 makes this a very interesting camera for myself. I look forward to you reviewing the Nikon D780 in a future video.

great video review as always from you - very classy and informational - thanks I am a mirrorless guy big time - but frustrated with the Sony A7xxx lens costs - and tracking focus - I have the A7 and A7m2 - ( of course I have Lumix and Sony E bodies and Olympus and Fuji ) and most are all great in still focus - the A6300 is very good in tracking although I wish it had Touch LCD for pulling focus as it does not always pic my focal point of interest - but frustrating lens selection - So for some wedding work I was thinking I need a DSLR - for FF and better price for 70-200 f2.8 and 24-70mm F2.8 and a 85 F1.8 and a 35mm F1.4 to begin with - ( just occasional weddings-not Pro - when health allows ) So was looking at the Sigma lenses - so much more affordable - But main concern is focus speed in Live View - which I understand is Contrast Only - no Phase - Is that true - and is the contrast fast enough ?? my eyesight is poor so I tend to like using LCD - but of course can use EVF if really needed - but of course there are many shots hard to do with EVF and with the tillable LCD now one can get low and high shoots easy - but if focus speed is slow and bad then that is not good - So in short how is focus speed in Live View ? is it fast enough for wedding work - many say the D750 does well in focusing in low light but I assume that with Phase - how about in Live view ?
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words, and sharing your thoughts, always appreciated. I haven't had the opportunity to try those Sigma lenses ... but it is something I'll put on my "to-do" list. And I agree, would have to have touch - the more cameras I review that have it, the more it seems odd not to have it. I would not use live view for speed work - it's kind of slow and cumbersome, as the mirror flips twice to expose the image, and the focus models are different.

Hi Martin, Re AF-C 3D tracking makes use of the color matrix metering sensor and tracks objects. E.g. put it on the black tyre of a car and it will track the tyre as the car moves away. Or on a red football gurnsey and it will track the player, etc etc.

+Michael MacGillivray Thanks for your thoughts, and I did think about my approach here - I just felt that one of the features of this camera was the depth of its functions, so it did feel long and as a result I added the interactive menu. For a camera as capable as this, I felt this was the right approach. I'm sorry that I did not meet your expectations.

Great video review, yes the best on KZfaq but my experience of this camera is mixed after 1 year. I find it awkward, the shutter is very sluggish as well as slow moving focus spot using live view for stills (handy with the tilting screen) It has many times failed to nail the focus (with the 50mm G and the 24mm f/1.4G ED), the noise is worse than I thought at higher ISO and I also find the colours underwhelming after using the D200 for 10 years. All in all it's a good camera but for me, didn't meet my expectations.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words and your comments. I agree, Liveview is a poor compromise for what mirrorless cameras offer. Yes, noise, but it must be an improvement over the D200. As for colour, have you tried the picture controls or making adjustments within the picture controls, or saving a custom control? Every manufacturer's default setting seems (to me anyway) to be more neutral these days - but there are usually ways to mitigate this in camera if you prefer.

+brianminkc Maybe I spend too much time with so many cameras many new features, that by the time I've seen it on several models, I get a bit jaded. But believe me, I flinch a lot - the cameras I review are on loan. For Nikon, yes, a ground-breaking camera (and we do remember that Nikon was the first with wifi) but the features they seemed to be promoting for the D750 were not as exciting (to me anyway) as Nikon wanted us to believe. Always thankful for the comments, I appreciate that you took the time to write.

Maarten, I'm a longtime apsc shooter who's "always wanted a full frame" DSLR. I've been saving up for this camera, but now the XT2 is right around the corner lol. Would you recommend the D750 over the upcoming XT2? I know you're probably not allowed to say much about the XT2 yet, so maybe just some thoughts on the size, weight and operation compared to it. I would plan on mostly using primes with am FX body
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 8 жыл бұрын
+Ponskippa I would not have thought to compare those two, so it's an interesting question. The XT2 really does compare favourably with full frame cameras, but. And I'm hesitant to present final thoughts without final firmware. The XT2 is not a small or light camera. Operationally, they're such different approaches that it comes down to style and preference. I could be happy and recommend either, and although Fuji makes some fine XF series lenses, the overall Nikkor lineup provides much more flexibility.

Travel a lot: Portraits and Landscapes Home: Macro with a Pro need because I'm shooting jewellry, with commercial propose. Which camera do you recommend? D750? a Mirrorless? Budget: around D750 body value. Thank you very much for your time.

Thanks for the kind words, that's always appreciated. I"m not sure why you need to upgrade (although I always understand the desire to do so). I'd say a good macro lens might be your best bet. Sure, upgrading to the D750 would be great, but the incremental improvement may be small. Try the lens first.

Hi, great reviews. I have a question. I've been using a D5300 for about two years now and I'm getting fairly confident with my photography. I have several weddings now booked in. So I'd like to upgrade. My issue is this... I do not know what camera to choose for this... the D750 or the D500? With you knowledge and experience what would you say would be the best choice? Bare in mind I already have several DX lenses. Will the 4MP less on the d500 be a deal breaker? Will I get sharper images on the D500 because its crop. Please I know your busy... but I like some direct advice.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 7 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend that you take a step back and ask what you expect the upgrade to accomplish. What feature/function/improvement are you hoping to have? I would not find the D5300 a particularly deficient camera. While I recognize that you'd like to re-invest in your business and improve your equipment, the first thing I'd do is start replacing the DX lenses with FX lenses - that will make much greater difference in quality than transitioning to a FF sensor with a few MP more. The lenses will last a long time, and when you are ready to move to a full frame sensor (which will make a difference) you'll be ready. And with those DX lenses, you're not going to get much benefit from an FX body, as it will crop the sensor to match the lens. However, I'm not really answering your question. I liked both cameras, if I had to pick one, I'd probably go with the D500, which in my mind, provided a nicer shooting experience, although I'm hard pressed to quantify that.
@StuTuckerMusic
@StuTuckerMusic 7 жыл бұрын

Always my pleasure, thanks for the kind words. In general the histogram is always updating as the light in the image area changes. However, those changes are not related to the position of the focus point.

Maarten, A quick question regarding the Nikon D750 video autofocus please ?? I sometimes video myself speaking to camera using the D750. The video autofocus is almost, but not quite. It seems to get 95% focused. I am almost 100% in focus. But there is a minor blur. So I use manual focus instead. Do you have any kind of "Hack" to get around this please ? Or should I just use manual focus instead ?? Many thanks Dennis
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 5 жыл бұрын
You just discovered my hack. For any situation where I can use manual focus, I do.And me speaking to camera at a fairly consistent distance is one of those situations. There are now a few cameras where the continuous autofocus/face detect doesn't wobble and make micro adjustments and it's possible to use it for those kinds of situations.

Maarten, I am shooting some video using a two-camera set-up (A D780 and a D750). I am shooting the video in my own living room using standard lighting. I am happy with the lighting and very happy with the video from the D780. But with the video from the D750, the colour balance and white-balance is wrong. I am shooting in auto-white-balance on both cameras. The D780 footage is great. But on the D750, my red t-shirt appears to be orange. I have made changes to the white-balance on the D750. I have changed the Kelvin setting and made other white balance changes. But I can't get the colours to look right. Apart from changing the lighting, do you have any ideas or suggestions please ? Many thanks (in advance) for any help that you can give.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 2 жыл бұрын
Auto white balance, particularly for video, doesn't work. If you need them both to look the same, start with the same K setting and shoot a chart at the beginning of the day (or each time the light changes). Then use the chart to align the footage in editing.

Is the “exposure smoothing” meant to be used when taking a time lapse of a sunset or sunrise? Those can be tricky to make time lapses of after all. And if not, what DOES it do if you turn it on in those situations? Or is it mostly for avoiding the flickering you can get from frame to frame in a time lapse?
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 3 жыл бұрын
The trouble with exposure smoothing in those situations is that it defeats the purpose. For those you expose properly at the beginning of a sunset, and to be properly exposed at the end of the sunrise. Exposure smoothing works best if the exposure is changing unpredictably, like moving clouds. Time lapse should not flicker, unless you're shooting something with very short term lighting changes.

Hello i just want to say this is a great review on the D750! Ive been doing so much research on this camera and this helped a lot. I need your opinion if you don't mind and get a chance to read this. I shoot cars as a hobby and was looking to upgrade to the D750 with the 24-120mm F4, I currently shoot with a D7000 using an 18-200mm 3.5-5.6, 35mm 1.8, and a 50mm 1.8. I am looking for sharper images and better quality as an upgrade. I know there are better cameras for that but with the sale that is going on now with the D750 i was really considering buying it. I would appreciate it!!
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. Yes, between the full frame sensor and the increased resolution you'll likely see some improvement in quality - but I don't think the 18-200 can deliver to those standards.
