I finally was able to get a D850 almost two years ago and being a Nikon shooter since the mid 70s I have to say that this is Nikon's best camera ever made, I would also say it's the best DSLR ever produced. It is a Jack of all trades and outside of a speedy D6, D5, the D850 is every Nikon DSLR in one body in its performance and dynamic needs. I have other "daily" cameras but for when I need a quality performer for projects, work and any high end stuff, I reach for the D850. For photography there is no real need to spend the big asking prices of the latest fancy mirrorless versions, the D850 will cover everything you need.

What made me buy another d850 in 2024 , i was given a z9 for a scottish shoot and 400mm lens to photograph climbers , i waited and waited an....... by the time the descent happend over an overhang (not having radio contact) the viewfinder was blank , it bugged me so much , the ev viewfinder dictating your viewing with battery powered viewfinder i gave the camera back and came away with new d850 and new nikon grip . I dont regret not buying the latest kit over my 2 d850s , its a work horse , and the pro glass is awesome , no regrets everything about the d850s , is fast accurate , can be set silent (rear screen shooting) i lugged my d850s everywhere theyre not toys ,

Thinking of buying one of these D850's, I'm 72 years of age and don't wish to transition into mirrorless. I've got a D7100 now and if I purchase the D850 I should be set for the rest of my life. Thanks for the helpful comments.

Solid choice on the 610 as well. I think I'll run my 750 into the ground over the next decade. Especially with how rarely I shoot 😂

What do you think you’re lacking on the d810?
@unreelcreative
@unreelcreative 4 ай бұрын
@@grantgauvreau2744 This may seem like a small thing. But what annoyed me with the D810 was the speed of things like: Image review, the slightly long delay from pressing the playback button to the image coming up, and going from image to image had a delay. Continous shooting speed was slightly slower than my natural pace of shooting frame to frame. Buffer was small and the images were large, further delaying the frame to frame speed. By slightly slow, I do mean a faction of a second, but that fraction was enough of a delay to through me off my internal pacing.

I bought a d810 new in 2014 and have decided to pull the trigger on updating to a d850 and that is in motion. Beyond wanting more megapixels for larger prints, the reasons for me were a whole lot of small quality of life upgrades - tilting screen, touch screen, and I shoot a lot at night so illuminated buttons and focus peaking will be much appreciated, not to mention better low-light AF when not shooting manual. Can’t wait for my d850 to arrive. I do have a few Fuji mirrorless cameras as well and they are great “everyday” cameras, but when you need a beast, you need a beast.

Interesting. I am still using a D810, D4s and a D700. I sold much of my Nikon gear to go to the "greatest and best" Canon R5. Well, not so much. I have a few Canon RF lenses and I would sell them all including the R5 just to go 100% back to Nikon. However the money I would loose to do so would turn my stomach. So far I do use the R5 at times. I have shot Nikons for over 40 years. The memory at 70 YO works easier and faster with the Nikons. I have been trying to justify buying the D850 as what I have seen and read this is the best DSLR ever made. Just not sure if it would improve the images I am now making. For sure it would be fun to try! If I was still a pro shooter it would, for me be a no brainer.

I dont know. You know Nikon D850 is a great cam. I have a Z8 and is also great. Z8 is newer and it is supposed to be better a lot, but D850 does the job done 🙊 I got a D850 for 1500 bucks mint with 10k clicks. I think thats great also. Its so hard to me to go with the flow and go with mirrorless. You know every year new model is out. Today is Z8, now everybody are waiting for Z8II, and year later who knows. Completely new system with cameras taking photos on its own 🤣🤣 And you know what. D850 still does the job done for 1500 bucks ☺ I thing I will leave the ship that is going too fast forward, and stay in the present with what I got and concentrate on taking great shoots instead of exploring new gear ☺ Cheers

That's a great deal on an amazing camera. With DSLR becoming a "dead" type of camera time (I don't believe that comment, I have just heard people talking about these cameras in that way) The price of DSLRs on the used market has dropped significantly in price. New gear doesn't help creativity. As much as people talk specs, and ISO this, and MP this, and how the newest camera can make better what ever. There are much more important elements involved than the camera. Example, Taking breath taking images of the mountains. If you keep buying the latest camera, you'll never be able to afford to travel to the mountains. So in a big picture sense, the latest gear can be a much bigger limiting factor then getting a "cheap" camera and spending the rest on travel. Ya know?

It’s such a hard camera to replace. Nothing seems to be big enough of an improvement to justify the cost. And you’re right I did mean the mirrorless Z9 as a replacement in the future. Too many numbers to remember.

Since you are currently on the D800, the main difference you will notice is the speed of the camera. By that I mean the speed at which the image come up to preview, switching and scrubbing thru the shot photos. Faster FPS, larger buffer, faster writing to the XQD cards. If Speed of capturing is an issue for you, then this would be a great improvement. HOWEVER, if speed of operation is not an issue, then I don't see much of a change. Between the D800 and the D850, I would say the D850 is a faster camera. Quality of image is about the same, ISO, slightly better on D850, and Slightly slimmer camera body. One additional note, I have noticed that using fast SD cards in the D850 (Sd card rated at 400mb/s) are still considerably slower than the XQD cards rated at the same 400mb/s speed which leads me to believe the SD slot on the D850 isn't build to be as fast as it could be. I only have personal experience with this, and have not extensively tested this yet.

@@unreelcreative thanks 👍for the good advice. I've decided to keep the 1300 in my pocket and carry on with my beloved D800, built like a brick and taker of fine photos. You know the problem today. We are absolutely inundated with opinions, marketing, propaganda, and possibilities. Great photos don't come from more megapixels or superior sensors, they come from vision, perception and technical know how. We as photogs need to practice and hone these skills and study great photographers. Thanks for convincing me to stay with what I've got. I've also got the D700, a legend forever

Hi, between d810 vs d750 which one produce better photos straight out of camera without doing editing, also color rendering and skin tone color are same in both camera, is Worth buying d810?
@unreelcreative
@unreelcreative 2 ай бұрын
I would assume the newer of the two would produce better straight out of the camaera colours. I would think the D750 would allow you to control and dail in the Jpeg settings you would be happy with. But either would be a good choice. I would perfer the D750 for the speed and file size over the D810.

How could you miss out on the NIKON D810??🤔
@unreelcreative
@unreelcreative 5 ай бұрын
That's a great question. I stuck with the 750 due to its quicker frame rate and faster preview of the images. When I tested the 800 and 810 the speed of capture was much too slow for the style of shooting I had at the time. The 800 and 810 in my mind, was "studio only" camera, which I was not doing, I was more on the side of "on the fly" or "docu". The 850 however had the faster frame rate and fast preview cycling of images that has suited my style of shooting.
