Thanks, I just ordered that lens and so many people on my Facebook forums, told me I made a mistake, but you made me feel good about this purchase.

It's a great lens. Honestly, you'll be really happy with it and you saved a ton of money over the future 2.8 :-)

Great review and very helpful for me: I was debating to go for this either the 14-30mm F4 or the 20mm f1.8! Obviously different propositions but clearly the f1.8 is great for Astro however the 14-30mm is an “all day” lenses for landscape/street. Having seem the results you have achieved at night for Astro I now feel the 14-30mm is a better all round option and can be useful for occasional Astro. If I get into this in a big way and the money fairy is kind I go for that later.

Thanks for your presentation! Getting the Z6ii soon but cannot decide on which Z lens to begin with. I cannot get the camera with the kit 24-70F4 s for financial reasons. I mainly shoot landscapes and family. My budget is $1200. Appreciate your advice.

So are the corrections already applied when I'm looking at the LCD screen before I've taken the shot? Also does this mean when I'm shooting at 14mm, by the time I bring the image into lightroom I've lost 1 or 2mm and therefore essentially have a 15 or 16mm shot?
@ShutterSpeak
@ShutterSpeak 3 жыл бұрын
What you see in the LCD is not corrected. LR applies the profile and corrects upon import. I have discovered that this can be turned off in LR though.

In other words you have a stomach churning warped image like in the 16-35 which was off the charts for corrections. Like the 16-35, not the lens for me.

Im sure you can turn off corrections in camera.

I really like the lens. Have been using for six weeks. The only thing I don't like is the hood. It truly feels flimsy and I expect it to end up breaking. Wish they would make these out of a rubber material.
@ShutterSpeak
@ShutterSpeak 3 жыл бұрын
Well for what it is worth - I have never heard of anyone breaking a lens hood. I've lost quite a few. Hopefully these will be easy to 3d print in the future. Have you ever broken one?
@scottweaverphotovideo
@scottweaverphotovideo 3 жыл бұрын
@@ShutterSpeakI haven't, but the hood for the 14-30 seems particularly flimsy. I've been a photographer for many decades. I still preferfer the folding rubber lens hoods. Wish it were possible to create one similar to those with these ultra wide zooms.
@ShutterSpeak
@ShutterSpeak 3 жыл бұрын
@@scottweaverphotovideo I think because of the petal shape that would be particularly challenging. However, I do like the rubber hoods for specific uses. I used them when I shot NHL hockey and we had more photographers than holes in the glass. By pressing the rubber hood up to the glass you could eliminate any glare. Very handy.

Small correction, this lens takes an 82mm thread filter. Same as the 24-70 2.8z. He accidentally said 85mm

I’ve heard more than one reviewer knock Nikon for not providing lens “cases”. I don’t know anyone that walks around with 2-6 separate lens cases hanging on their shoulders. I don’t know of anyone that doesn’t use a back pack or some other multiple lens/camera case. The lenses that need a case do come with them.
@ShutterSpeak
@ShutterSpeak Ай бұрын
You put them in a case when you are at home or at your office. Many people who buy these are pros. They are stored on shelves and shared by several people. Who would walk around with a lens in a case?

Hi Joseph, enjoyed your video. I've been questioning why I even need a decent camera or lens when I can edit my photos taken on my Iphone (with a $130 Moment wide angle lens) using Adobe and results come out just as great if not better than what you showed. Can you comment on this?
@ShutterSpeak
@ShutterSpeak 3 жыл бұрын
If what your doing on your phone works for you I say stick with it. I don't agree that the phone can do everything the camera can. It's not even close, but if it does everything YOU need, than that is a totally understandable situation.

The "click" nonsense when changing focal lengths is silliness, and not for professional shooters. It's fine for my cute neighbor taking photos of her kids, but that thing would die quickly with a pro use. Don't know why they do that.
