Hey!
In this video i compare the raw video capability of the Nikon Z6 using ProresRAW and comparing it to the Sigma Fp.
Which one do you prefer? Do comment I am very curious.
Nikon Z6 with Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC Gen1 @45mm 5600 Kelvin
Sigma Fp with Sigma 45mm 2.8 5600 Kelvin
Color correction is done with this method.

Great insight! Hopefully when Adobe (and others) adopts PRRaw it should be reading the metadata of which camera and make the workflow smoother in the future. cDNG seems, for now at least, like a more solid option.

Great video, the only thing I would suggest is using official Nikon LUT for N-log to grade it. The N-log gammut is ITU-R BT.2020 so it must be brought to rec709 color space if you want to avoid it being overly pale/green.

I have found that the official Nikon kit gets way over saturated. But I have not tried it in a rec.2020 timeline som maby it's my bad. However this was brought to a neutral look using the video passport.

@@creativenords You can just use Color Management inside Resolve, and use Rec.2020 Gamma 2.4 as input color space with P3-D65 as your output color space.

Really interesting to see you preferred the Adobe Camera Raw and After Effects workflow for the cDNG footage. I also found adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw much better (and sharper!) but I found the output of the cDNG sequence quite buggy and painfully slow to render. I’ve found a happy workflow in Resolve now though, using the Blackmagic Film set in the Camera Raw settings like you did... then applying the default Arri LUT instead of the Blackmagic LUTs. For more of a filmic look I’ve had great results with the FilmConvert plugin for Resolve, choosing the camera profile for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k (though they said they’re working on an fp profile too).

Just to double check what you said, since I have a fp as well but am a newb. You like to correct the raw files in Adobe Camera Raw using the black magic film set setting, which I assume is in the software. After you get the look, it seems like you flip over to resolve for the final editing part where you apply a Arri lut. Thus, are you in the cDNG format the whole time and what do file format do you export with to KZfaq?

@@zh4k Hi... sorry no I might have made that sound confusing because I originally tried it using Adobe Camera Raw but because the output through After Effects was quite buggy (flickering highlights for example)... I started using Resolve on it's own, the Camera Raw is a panel in Resolve (as opposed to Adobe Camera Raw which is what opens whenever you bring a raw file into Photoshop or After Effects). The Camera Raw panel in Resolve is on the 'Color' adjustments screen and allows the primary adjustments to the raw video settings, in there you also can choose to apply their 'Blackmagic Design' as the 'Colour Space' and 'Blackmagic Design Film' as the 'Gamma' setting for the raw video file, that gives you a nice flat log image to start color grading either manually with contrast, saturation etc or by applying a Lut like the default Arri Lut in Resolve or one of the built in Blackmagic Luts. Hope that makes more sense ;)

It's a great video. I have a question. How do you sound if you want to convert the cinema dng of sigma fp into after effects? And is there any know-how to easily convert and work on this collectively? (If I had to convert each file like that, It will take a long time. (Sound's harder.)) Thank you.
@creativenords

Yes and no. This is the time consuming way to do it. I have been getting good results doing the conversion with apples compressor. Otherwise going the Resolve DNG conversion route gives yo 80-90% as good result.

Having never touched Resolve until VERY recently, I found out the hard way just how painfully slow the ACR + Ae workflow was... I had two cameras shooting an interview in 4K 10-bit cDNG for 27 minutes. The result was almost 2 days of rendering to ProRes 😱 I've suggested to Sigma that they look at incorporating an alternative recording method so the camera produces one RAW file like Black Magic have done with B-RAW, which edits flawlessly in Premiere Pro with their free plugin. I'm very excited to see what comes next for the fp though!

Creative Nords you can also check out SlimRaw. It’s a great lossless compression system that takes cDNG and creates much more manageable file sizes. On average my clips get reduced 35-45% in size without loss of quality using this method.

*What's with the MAGENTA colour cast coming off the Sigma FP sensor all about ? Everything looks like it has a slight, to rather pronounced MAGENTA cast (??) There's definitely way more colour in the image, along with more contrast and detail in the blacks and highlights as compared to the anemic coloremitry of the Nikon.*
@creativenords
@creativenords 4 жыл бұрын
Very good question, I think the magenta cast is a bit of eye trickery as the Nikon before it might have a slight green tint. But as far as detail and color I think it's mostly due to the lack of raw control in Final Cut.

im waiting till fp gets log, then it should get better dynamic range.
@mrjonkane
@mrjonkane 4 жыл бұрын
Log for the fp will only give better dynamic range for the H264 mov recordings, which is useful for the times you don't want to shoot raw, to save storage space, faster workflow etc. The best dynamic range from this camera and real reason to use it is to shoot 12bit cDNG raw, in which case log in camera is not relevant at all unless it's simply for monitoring with live-view using a log-to-lut applied to see something closer to how it will look in editing (if that's possible with external cDNG raw recording). However a log camera profile for Resolve would be useful, designed and calibrated to get the best dynamic range out of the linear raw file when you bring it in to Resolve would be good. For now the default Blackmagic Film log profile does it perfectly well, allowing you apply a range of Blackmagic Luts or I prefer applying the Arri Lut.
@robertulrich3964
@robertulrich3964 4 жыл бұрын
@@mrjonkane dunno, from what I understand log does does do better dynamic range. arri uses log and fp will have log in an update, so I think it will help. even sony raw with pictures profiles affects dynamic range. raw is just an unspecified wb/iso container, the real trick is the total luma range. im not an engineer, this is just what I see.
@mrjonkane

@@robertulrich3964 - yeah if it's done the same way as Arri Alexa, but raw and log are two separate things... Arri Alexa can convert it's raw data into a baked in log video in camera, I'm doubtful the fp will be able to do that from cDNG raw but if it has enough processing power in that tiny package I'd be happy to be proven wrong. From what I've seen it sounds like it will just be a log picture profile for H264 MOV recording.
