Hey everyone! I'm excited to share this creative photoshoot behind the scenes on the Nikon Zf with 2 lenses. First I have the Z 85mm f1.2 S which has the most stunning bokeh! The second lens I have is the more budget friendly alternative if you still want dreamy looking portraits which is the Z 50mm f1.8 S. I have lots of unedited, SOOC photos to share with you in today's video, plus my edited version as well. It's cool that you're in the group of photography influencers getting Nikon preproduction cameras. Hopefully younger photographers will consider Nikon cameras, even as they see Sony and Canon most often on KZfaq. While all the images are stunning, my favorites are with the "sun on your face" [7:00}

Can I just say that I love that no matter how many photoshoots I watch you do you always get excited and are enthusiastic about the whole process. It really shows how much you love what you do!! I am the same way! ❤😊

You also usually have to be perky and upbeat when working with models (or clients), or at least I find it so. Not discounting Julia's obvious enthusiasm, which makes her videos so fun to watch.

Ahh thank you so much!! And yeah that's a very good point that being excited about the photos is something good to do for your clients as it helps everyone get more into it. But in the case of this photoshoot the excitement was genuine haha I couldn't NOT get excited about beautiful lighting like that!

Again whenever you post a video while you use some Nikon gear, I will always get excited, so at least I must give one comment for exchange! If you get one Zf on the future, get a smallrig grip, and you going to love it more! Great work as always!

Love your content! Do you do matrix or hilight weighted metering? My ZF is on its way and my Plena will be completely removing the backgrounds, but I’ll have to use the 50 for “context”! ❤️🙏🏾😂

On my Fujis, I always use matrix. Also avoids highlights to be blown out. 1 to 1.5 stops under exposure are easily dealt with in post. 👍😎👍

Thank you! This is kinda bad but I don't use metering, I usually take a quick look at my histogram to make sure nothing's blown own too much and go from there. If I do use it, I would have it on evaluative (this is what it's called on Sony, not sure what the equivalent is on Nikon sorry!) And ooh that 135 Plena is a dreammm lens!

The filter diameter is just 82mm. That's so cool, because it's a standard diameter. I have that lens on my Z8. Just loving it!

The 85 f1.2 looks too big for this camera. How are the ergonomics?

I have the ZF and probably wouldn’t use it with an 85 1.2 - the Smallrig grip does make the ergonomics worlds better.

If you watch my review of the Zf I do mention that it is a pretty uncomfortable camera to hold/use for hours at a time due to the lack of grip. However I actually found it was a bit better with the 85mm as I used the lens to hold up the camera when my right hand got tired. When you are using a smaller lens your right hand is doing all the work as there isn't much room for your left hand.. so it would be better if you have the smallrig grip to help you out in that case.

That sounds like a good idea! I have the Sony equivalent of that video comparing the 85mm f1.4 vs f1.8 but I will try to make a Nikon version :)

Yes, I did mention in my review of the Zf that it is pretty uncomfortable to use for hours at a time since it doesn't have a grip. It's actually a bit better with larger lenses like the 85mm f1.2 as there is a lot of room for my left hand to hold up the lens/camera. If you plan on using this camera for long periods of time, I would definitely recommend to get the smallrig grip for it to make it more comfy!
