In this comparison review of the Nikon Z fc and the Nikon Z50 I wanted to explore the differences for cost options, to help you see if it was an investment worth making that would suit your needs. When you put the Nikon Z fc vs the Nikon Z50 up against each other, I think the Nikon Z fc comes out on top. This video is why.

Great comparison video mate. Lucky to get your hands on one so early. Looks like another great camera in the Nikon arsenal. Definitely dig the retro metallic look. Best feature for me is the 900 second long exposure without putting it into bulb mode, which I guess would eliminate the need for a remote control shutter release. Any road, great stuff as always mate. Hope you are doing well and having a great weekend!

Thanks heaps you legend! My favourite feature is that articulating screen - YEW!!! First mirrorless to do it and first Nikon in a long while as well. It would be so cool if the light meter worked all the way up to 900 seconds, still nice feature :)

Super valuable and thorough video Ralph, I'm sure this will be helpful for many! Tough choice for sure, I think for those that need the motivation and inspiration to pick up their camera and take shots the Z fc would be great, just like my Fuji XT4, which is my main camera now for going out and shooting, as I just ENJOY using it. Pretty great shutter speed feature on the Z fc I wasn't aware of that. Top video mate. "PRO SESSER" 😂

That's cool and you did a wonderful overview and comparison of these cameras. I do think that I like the Fujifilm X-T3 or 30 a bit better, but that's possibly due to having watched more about them. I would like to see the Z fc compared to the X-T3 or 30 and I wish that I could be the guy to do that, but I guess a guy can dream right? Keep up the great work Ralph!

Thanks for this review. I just picked one up and am playing with it in the middle of the night. I need a date. But, I’ve noticed banding on silent mode at high ISOs. It’s the same on the Z6II. Have you noticed this? I’m also trying to set up back-button focus, but I’m having no luck. Still loving the camera.

Thanks Jerri, I try not to use the camera on high ISO, because the quality deteriorates before the banding becomes an issue, I've found.

Some of my Wayne Gardner images were used to promote his recent documentary - notably the close-up of him cranked over at MG Corner on Philip Island. So many amazing memories from those days!

Both the Sony and Nikon are good. I’d be factoring in lens price and future purchase to inform the purchase. It terms of low light I think you’d only see marginal improvement between then two.

I'm thinking of trying a Nikon ZFC maybe in MintGreen? I used a Nikon FG all through college in the 80's and used Nikon FM and FM2 at work during and after those years. currently using a great used Nikon D300s with mostly manual focus intake lenses plus some modern 2000's AF used lenses. Thinking of moving to Mirrorless especially for video backup to my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. (BMPCC4K). I would love to get a Z9.. but that's a lot of money to spend on something that Im not earning money with. But a retro ZFC that gets me into the Z world but doesn't feel same but less when I get a Z6II or Z6III/Z8 when they come out. a ZFC could still be it's own thing vs a z50.. that well.. "Yeah I had to get something to try mirrorless" to a retro better video blogging camera if I want to.

It's a good entry point into the mirrorless world. I use it for 4k video all the time and once you get used to the dials being where they are, you'll enjoy it.

Thanks, enjoyed the video; this was helpful big time 👍 guessing this would be a good entry-level camera? by not real good low light. Would this be able to use at night for astrophotography? It also seems to be a good budget (what's that) level, guessing other lenses could be used as well (Nikon)? Have to say This one has moved up on my possible first camera; it has pasted the Canon M-50. CAVU! Fly Fun, Fly Safe Just Fly! and take those Creative Shots!

@RalphMayhewPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps mate. I like it more than the M50. I’ll try it with other lenses but seems to go alright. You’d get heaps of noise I reckon as the ISO climbs past 1200. Only a guess though. If they brought out a z mount Astro lens - wide and low aperture then it may go alright. I’ll give it a run and let you know my findings.

Does camera that does not have ibis gives huge difference with camera with ibis system in term of picture quality?
@RalphMayhewPhotography
@RalphMayhewPhotography Жыл бұрын
There is a significant difference. However it depends on a few other factors: shutter speed most used, type of photography, use of tripod steadiness of your hands, VR capabilities of your lens. I’m happy to answer any more specific questions this may raise.

I must admit, when you flipped the screeen out,, my old brain was confused to not see a roll of film under that “door”. 🤣 Well done Nikon! Not sure if I'd buy one. I'm not thrilled with that 3.5 - 6.3 I may rather get a used camera with a decent lens.

Thank u for the great Review. Im pretty much disappointed in Nikon for this Camera. Why build these APSC-cameras when u dont have lenses for them? for the price of 900€ u could get a professional fuji apsc camera like the Fuji X-T3. What i like about this camera - it looks cool. what i dont like: the price of 900 dollars for an entry level camera - no BSI, no image stabilization, only 1/4000 fastest shutter, just 1 SD-Card with the slower UHS-I standard, plasticky, the modes dont make sense when u have these dials - for example u go Av and ure shutterspeed dial is useless, there are no bright lenses for this so u have to pay for fullframe lenses who are bulkier and heavier and more expensive - no third party options, bad autofocus compared to competition, nikon, why this big mount when u just putting an apsc sensor inside? it seems to me fuji X-T3 is way better and the camera is much older.
