NIN Drummer Ilan Rubin in 2020 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the youngest living inductee in its history. He is also the first Rock Hall inductee to be born in the 1980s. How cool is that??

Whoever tuned that snare drum deserves the Nobel Prize.

I can't tell you how many times I've come back and relistened and rewatched this video as it is the most perfect performance of this song ever.

I turned 39 this year and began sulking and feeling sorry for myself because I felt *old* . To see Gary rocking out like this in his 60's shows that age means absolutely nothing and it helped me snap out of my melancholy!

Gary Numan looks, sounds, and rocks like he’s 40 years younger than he is.

I love how totally physical Gary is while performing this at age 51 versus when he was 21 and released it. As if the pale robot we met in 1979 was turned into a warm blooded human.

Trent is rocking that tambourine like it's nobody's business. Dead solid on that on a simply incredible performance musically for a legendary song.

I really appreciate how Trent let’s Gary have the moment all to himself. It wasn’t a power move. He’s just a good guy!

I'm class of 1986, the early '80s were an awesome time in my life...I remember loving this song. They did Gary Numan right by inviting him on stage to do this. Bravo!

I was there, it was the highlight of the whole show. Loved Numan since the 80’s and NIN since Closer. The two combined was just epic. The recording doesn’t do the atmosphere justice.

Well, this is just freaking brilliant isn't it?

I just watched a recent interview with Gary where he cited this performance, and Trent's comments about Gary's influence, as his way of finally accepting the success of the old songs instead of resenting them because they over-shadow his new music. It was all because of Trent... and for the record, Gary's new music is amazing.

It might be hard to believe, but this has been my only exposure to the Nine Inch Nails. This was an excellent performance. It is funny watching the band because everyone is playing college baseball while the drummer is playing pro football. He seems to be in his own world just dominating. Not to take away from everyone else in the band. It is just funny watching the drummer having the time of his life 🙂

Trent on the tambourine gets me everytime. He was gettin’ it 🔥🤣 this was dope! 🎶✨💙

People have rightly pointed out "the smile" at 0:24 which is the highlight of the clip but I love the moment between 0:11 and 0:16 where the camera person is, rightly realizing that the drummer is Animal incarnate but then realizes that the crowd is just coming over the top of that. The swing from the drums to the crowd is an acknowledgement that something special is happening. That crowd has the feeling we all crave in the the audience. A unified expression of collective joy.

That synth sound Numan has on this is pretty much dead on to his original. So cool.

This is one video I keep coming back to. One of my favorite performances. The reaction of the crowd in the beginning, Trent letting Gary do his thing, Trent playing tambourine and keyboard, the energy of Ilan Rubin, and finally but not least is the camera work. Over the top!

I don't think a fifty year old man could look any happier to be on a stage than Gary.

I'm honestly not a huge NIN fan but after seeing this I hold Trent in extremely high regards. Respect for letting a legend front the band for a song.

I come back to this video over and over and over. It raises my blood pressure a good 10 points and I like it. From the opening lick you can feel the crowd and I want to be there so bad.

Apologies if I've commented before, but that's how damned good this is...the perfect fusion of the harder NIN sound and Gary's original. Every member of NIN in this performance was rock solid but not once tried to steal the show or take the spotlight away from Gary. THIS is what showing respect to a legend looks like...having his beloved Polymoog on stage was the very definition of "class act". I never get tired of watching this.
