The fact that this man can sing this song with as much heart, soul, and passion in his early 50s, as he did when he was in his mid 20s, is the sign of a man who is a true artist, and a man who knows true pain.

Rich Dupe whether or not it was a good thing that he said, he had good intentions. the original lyric means he is still in a bad place with his addiction. but he isn’t doing heroin anymore, so i don’t think the guy in the crowd meant it that way. maybe like a “you’re still here, you survived”

So amazing to see the early times when Trent was in the grip of Heroin singing this song, to this performance when he was totally clean and sober.... what must he feel when he revisits this mega-hit of his insane days and now sings it sober?? Very, very few climb out and away from the pit of death that drug promises... I’m glad he made it

Trent wasn't on heroin. He was an alcoholic and addicted to cocaine. In fact, the first time he had heroin it was because he had it confused with china white, and almost died after consuming it. That's when he decided to turn his life around.

Also take away this stigma from Heroin and drugs in general this BS society has tried to push on us. Everyone is different and likes different things ! MAYBE if people weren't shunned or put down because of things they do or how they feel, they may come out better. Now not speaking for the ones that harm others, or puts their family at risk etc etc. That happens on any drug and its not the drugs fault that person was just shitty to begin with 100% Anyway my point is take away this BS stigma from society and open your mind.

That's a very bleak way to look at this. That songs is what - 25 years old now? And he's still here. I'm not sure he believed that when he wrote it. I hope he perceives this as cathartic and I hope he isn't singing it into the void, I hope he the crowd's emotional investment matches his own and gives him something back.

As simple as the piano notes are, it really is what makes this song that much more sad to listen to. The power of less is more, and just how solemn that instrument is during the chorus. Trent really was such a phenomenal writer when he did Broken and The Downward Spiral.

The passion in this mans heart for his music it is his soul the pre chorus is one of the most beautiful transitions from a dissonant dark haunting melody in the verse with lyrics of nihilism and suffering to an uplifting drone with honest lyrics of needing to reach out idk idc thats how i see it its just musically this song is brilliant i love it.

It’s so interesting now more than ever growing up with this amazing song and to hear him have that same intensity as he did when I was 19. Its a mind blowing and still I get it and feel it just like I did then! He means EVERY word of Every song! To watch this now from 2017 gives me chills regarding the sound now compared to then! We were a generation that had a right to a voice regarding our future. A future that we all knew was more than likely that even with college, we’re most likely not going to do any better than our parents. The American dream for generationX was out of reach and NO ONE was listening. Grunge/punk/industrial is a great example of this kind of hopelessness. And it’s this lack of hope we’re this music blossomed. I think it’s systemic as this generation maybe for the first time after the Vietnam war realized that we are perhaps not the greatest country in the world and we felt powerless of this. Just my thoughts…

The level of talent, musical genius, and ability to so beautifully, painfully and honestly put the awful things he was going through into masterpiece level song as he did, that my friends is the Statosphere level type of talent that one musician in a millennium, maybe longer even, actually possess. He's a true musician, a warrior poet, a truly Grimm Reaper... That's my opinion anyway. And to top it all, he was horribly addicted to what many call the most devastatingly destructive substance in the planet, and somehow he didn't fall victim to the infamous "dead at age 27" fucking curse that has claimed SO MANY of our best and brightest rock stars for decades and millennia. I'm not a giant fan of their/his entire catalogue, musically speaking, but as a learned musician, I must say that Talent recognizes Talent in the same way that tragedy begets tragedy. Johnny Cash felt such a strong emotional reaction to this song that he famously covered it. In fact, in years since, I've realized a LOT of people thought it was a Johnny Cash song. And I enjoy his rendition, but it pales in comparison to Trent. I think so anyway. But I digress deeply. My point, TRENT is a mad genius. I'd comfortably compare him to a Mozart or Chopin type. I believe he's that good, nay great! Long may he reign!
