My therapist told me today that I need to live life for myself. And I feel like this is the most appropriate song for that teaching. "Less concerned about fitting into the world... cause it doesn't really matter"

The same here :) @ChristopherJohnson it"s not about having no relationship or not helping others, it's about remembering, that there is nobody's more important than you. It means being asertive instead of passive-agressive.

Sarah Beth You’re going to be fine. I always look at people that are always “mad” and go “why”???? Just keep pushing forward and be yourself. And don’t forget to turn the music WAY UP and headbang once in a while. You got this.

I did the same thing to my friend but "a perfect circle" song. Whenever it'd play- I'd look him dead in the eyes and mouth the words "You fucking dissapoint me, maybe your better off this way" and look away in disgust.

Well, your definition of "cutting edge" is purely circumstantial and bound by the qualities you would consider "cutting edge" at that time. As time moves on, that definition should change. Anyway, give this a listen. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNWlaalqtpjZZoU.html

originality versus mixing... sure it's "original" content in it's own right but it couldn't be made without the real originality that came before it... there's cutting edge and then there's the dull razor...

+Josiah Knoedler did it ever make it to mainstream radio?
@oxrjbizzle1984y8 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Vandersnick yes it was a pretty big rock radio hit along with hand that feeds and to a lesser extent every day is exactly the same, all had some degree of radio success. with teeth was kind of the last industrial rock version of nin, after this trent went pretty much totally electronica with a lot less guitars or so it seems anyways....
@SayNeverToIgnorance8 жыл бұрын
+Josiah Knoedler The best revelation I had concerning this song was when I considered it in the context of... how can you say, "western ignorance". Think of anything that falls under this... consumerism is the best descriptor I think. "I just made you up to hurt myself, yeah, And I just made you up to hurt myself. And it worked. Yes it did!" - makes me think of someone who is aware of crises abroad, beyond the first world borders (the countless genocides, human rights abuses, tyranny, etc.) and the person has 'made up' a reality to try to fit in with the rest of the society and knowing it would cause pain as ignoring is not something this person can naturally do. After the chorus he talks about a scab... I see this as finding something, lets say for example a leaked video of something that captures his interest away from their bubble life, knowing full well it could destroy the bubble. "Now I am somewhere I am not supposed to be, and I can see things I know I really shouldn't see. And now I know why, now, now, now I know why. Things aren't as pretty, On the inside" - finding all this stuff destroys that bubble, person has found information that the media and/or government does not want them to see, and it has completely tainted their view... Nobody else listens, nobody else cares, everyone is busy living in the bubbles they've created and they are the only one outside of it... thus, "only". "There is no you, there is only me" - many meanings, including for other people in bubbles not caring, first world is the "only" world, the people suffering from tragedies are not real (defending the bubble at all costs). Just my take it on. Trent Reznor is a champion. :)

I think the power of this song is not what society thinks "Power" really is but instead the early adolecent childhood trauma where one thinks the whole reason for all of our problems is us.....and the reality is that we are not at fault....we were just kids trying ti figure out how to survive in a world where our parental figures had their own issues that they could not help us.
